City Council Priorities Update Newly Renovated Police Headquarters
In December 2023, the City celebrated the opening of the newly renovated police headquarters located in City Hall East at 601 E. Hickory St.

City Hall East was originally built in 1947, expanded in 1965, and was later donated to the City of Denton in 1990. The building underwent several renovations beginning in 1992 and added the Denton Public Safety Training Facility in 2013.
Inclement weather can strike anytime, with or without warning, and you must plan and plug into the resources available to help navigate bad weather and stay ahead of helping yourself and others.

Fostering a Community-Driven Vision for Downtown Denton The Design Downtown Denton Plan will serve to guide priorities for the future of Downtown, including mobility, economic development, culture, parks, historic preservation, and more. Since July 2023, the Design Downtown Denton team has been hard at work updating the 2002 Denton Downtown Master Plan. Our goal from the beginning has been to create a plan that serves Downtown for the next 20 years by maintaining what makes it great and continuing to build on past efforts, including making it a more walkable, vibrant, and welcoming place for all Dentonites to live, learn, work, and play. To accomplish this goal, we've needed to hear from the community—you! Since September of last year, the team has held more than 10 popup events, conducted more than 80 business surveys, and engaged with and received feedback from more than 3,000 individuals. Our most recent public outreach event was a visioning workshop held on Dec. 4 at the UNTCoLab in which the community shared their thoughts on the initial vision and priorities for Downtown that were developed based on Downtown Advisory Group feedback. New Station Located at Denton Enterprise Airport Expected to be Completed in Summer 2024 Fire Station 9 will have four bays that will house Fire Engine 9, Squad 9, ARFF 9 (3000-gallon specialized Aircraft Rescue Fire Fighting truck), and a smaller Rapid Intervention Vehicle. Fire Station 9 will be equipped to staff up to seven firefighters to serve not only the airport and industrial area along Airport Road and Western Boulevard, but also most areas that are west of Interstate-35.

Denton Enterprise Airport Records Busiest Year Ever Denton Enterprise Airport shattered its 2022 operations record by 35,000 with a 2023 combined total of 212,200 takeoffs and landings!
It's by far the busiest year since official operations began in 2004, making Denton Enterprise Airport the 5th busiest airport in Texas and securing a spot in the top 60 for the entire country. In addition to a record-breaking year, airport staff launched a $20 million runway reconstruction project and are taking steps to launch the Airport Master Plan study.

Spring into Action with One of Denton's Best Kept, Home Grown Secrets! The Beneficial Reuse Department sells Dyno Dirt, a compost product made with brush and yard trimmings collected by the Solid Waste Department and biosolids recycled from the Pecan Creek Water Reclamation Plant. We offer nutrient-rich soil that has excellent moisture-retention properties. Product applications include landscape planting and mulching, lawn establishment and maintenance, vegetable and flower gardens, and nursery and greenhouse production. The Dyno Dirt program prolongs our landfill by recycling material that might otherwise go unused. The Dyno Dirt facility is open Tuesday through Saturday, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 1100 S. Mayhill Rd. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the average household uses 320 gallons of water per day. In the City of Denton, at least 40% of this goes to lawn irrigation, and this increases to around 70% during the summer. Approximately 10,000 gallons per household is lost each year from leaking toilets, faucets, and valves.

Greek fabulist Aesop said, “United we stand and divided we fall.” It's this sentiment that should remind us that when we come together anything is possible.

Denton County + City of Lewisville + City of Denton The City of Denton collaborated with Denton County and the City of Lewisville to provide a digital resource directory that outlines all available support services and programs for the community. FindHelp Denton County serves as an online tool where community members can find up-to-date hours, facility locations, and program details for free or reduced-cost resources. This digital information hub has the ability to locate the resources closest to you, including food access, transportation, medical care, financial assistance, and job training. Users can filter information through a keyword and zip code search, populating the closest or most relevant programs. Local social service and nonprofit agencies can also use the platform to link help-seekers to services or receive inbound referrals. There may be a million questions running through your head as to how you, an individual, can make a difference. The simple answer is one step at a time. Take a moment to do something out of the normal routine. This first step may seem uncomfortable, but it does not have to be. For example, if you like the outdoors, visit a different park or trail. Of course, the differences usually caused by anxiety will rush to the forefront of your mind. Just wait a moment and breathe, then allow yourself to see the similarities. The similarities normally far outweigh the differences. The great part is that this exercise can be done anywhere. As the world changes, so should we. After stepping out of your comfort zone, inventory what you hear and see. There is so much power in communication and art, music, dance, language, class, ethnicity, and food are a few cultural ways to unite. As with music, our lives are rhythmic and together we can create positive tapestries for everyone to see. The unique differences that are brought to the table breathe life into diversity. With the proper movements, we create harmonies that show a united front and protect our neighborhoods and city. Our harmonies are driven by heartbeats of love, pride, and belonging. As we unite, our journey collides, and we have a syncopation that culminates in a measure of love. Let’s unite; let’s change the world one heartbeat at a time. 7
