It is easy to complain, easier still to wait for someone else to solve problems for you. The challenge is in finding solutions, exploring paths to success, and reflecting the diverse voices in a community in order to serve people well. Raising your hand and asking the community if you should lead, if you can make decisions on behalf of others, and if you can pursue a vision on behalf of your neighbors… that is hard. Sometimes it’s painful. It’s also rewarding, inspirational, and important. In today’s divisive climate, with social media an easy megaphone to amplify dissent, the complaints and critiques come through loud and clear. We are trying - but we are also continually adjusting the sails. In our ever-changing world, creativity and flexibility are the keys to success. The City of Dayton is looking at new ways to support downtown development, In this Issue adjustments to our city layout to make housing more accessible to residents, and is pursuing new funding opportunities to help us complete projects. We DCDA Update are also going into our goal-setting workshop to look at priorities for the next few years and what we can do to make steady progress on goals that are Historical Highlight further out. I want to thank each one of you who took the time to participate Dayton Fire Update in the community survey to help us better understand your concerns, praises, and needs for the future. Information and perspective really helps us make the School Superintendent Update tough decisions that come. In the next year, we will see improvements to economic development, additions of sidewalks, upgrades of equipment, and How Well Do You Know our Deputy? progress toward replacing the footbridge. We will continue to consider options to provide public safety. We will restore traditional Old Timer’s events, Summer Reading Update expand the community-wide garage sale/free swap/and cleanup day, and we VFW Update will look for more opportunities for Daytonians to gather and renew connection, which increases civility. As the winter winds down and we await Columna de noticias en espanol the blooms and brightness of spring, I am excited about a summer of events and having face to face conversations.
