LEAGUES

WINTER BASKETBALL LEAGUE Our winter basketball league aims at providing an opportunity for kids to learn about teamwork and sportsmanship. Practices are held weeknights and begin the first week of January. Practice days and times are determined by the volunteer coach.

Games are held on Saturdays at surrounding middle and elementary schools.

The season tips off on January 15 and ends February 26. Registration closes December 1 and the early registration period ends November 1. Space is limited and we cannot guarantee there will be space available on the deadline date. This program may be modified based on King County’s Safe Start Washington Plan.

FALL VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE

Our co-ed fall league for youth aims at providing an opportunity for kids to learn about teamwork and sportsmanship. Practices are held weeknights beginning in early November. Practice days and times are determined by the volunteer coach. Games are held on Saturdays at Cedar Heights Middle School and Mattson Middle School.

Matches begin November 6 and the season ends December 18. There will be an end of season tournament for all divisions given there are at minimum three teams in the division. Registration closes September 21. Space is limited and we cannot guarantee space will be available on the deadline date. This program may be modified based on King County’s Safe Start Washington Plan.

Athletics Be a Volunteer Coach!

Coaching can be a valuable volunteer experience for parents, grandparents, siblings, or other caring adults. The commitment is low and the experience is extremely rewarding!

We are looking for volunteer coaches for our youth athletics programs. Here is what is takes to be a coach: - 1-4 hours per week depending on division (practice, game, & prep) - We supply all equipment, coaching and league information - Attend the mandatory informational coaches meeting - Coaches choose their own practice day - The seasons are around two months long - We focus on being non-competitive, fun and instructional!

Star Parties Sail the Milky Way with local astronomers who will provide star gazing expertise along with access to telescopes, binoculars and star charts. We will explore the Moon, the planets, constellations, stars, clusters and galaxies that each season's night scape presents.

TRAILBLAZERS YOUTH RUNNING CLUB - ADVANCED This session is for the runner who can run a mile without stopping (does not have to be fast) and who would like to develop into a more competitive runner. The program will be more focused on preparing the athlete to compete their best at the Jr. Olympic Association meet the second Saturday of November.

There will be three practices plus meets and they will have the choice to compete in two to three competitive meets (Saturdays) plus two to three recreational meets which are on Sunday mornings. Rec meets are optional but encouraged and the competitive meets are required.

Covington Parks & Recreation aims to offer a wide variety of recreational and athletic opportunities to the community. MEN'S FALL SOFTBALL LEAGUE

Men's REC softball teams are encouraged to register for this fall double-header softball league. Teams will play 10 games on Friday nights at Ravendsdale Park. Umpires, playoffs and champion t-shirts included. Composite bats allowed (must have 1.20 USSSA stamp) and only two over-the-fence homeruns allowed each game. Registration deadline is Sept.

This is an introductory dance class for 3-4 year olds full of fun, music, and moving! Your blossoming dancer will have a blast learning the basics of ballet. The fundamentals of body awareness, coordination, rhythm, and beginning terminology will be introduced. Ballet shoes suggested but not required.

Learn to fly! Climb, swing and twist in the air in this class that starts students on their aerial journey with core skills that focus on the four most common aerial apparatus. Lyra (hoop), Corde Lisse (rope), Aerial Fabric and Static Trapeze.

Participants will develop the strength, flexibility and air awareness needed to master skills high above the ground.

Tumbling class is the perfect place for youth to learn to take control of their bodies and environments. By learning tumbling of different styles, including gymnastics and parkour, students will learn body and special awareness.

ADVENTURE PALS (FORMERLY PLAYTIME PALS)

Experience Adventure Pals with your child as we hear a story, do a craft, sing songs and finish with a snack of your choice. Each month will reflect a new theme for our adventures together.

Classes remain online via Zoom. Please plan on stopping by the Maple Valley Center each month to do a drive by packet pick up of class supplies. We ask that you have basic art supplies available at your home, such as crayons or markers, a glue stick , tape or stapler.

Class will last between 45-60 minutes, depending on the size of the class. Zoom IDs will be texted out after registration is complete.

HOMESCHOOL CORE AERIAL 1

This is an introduction to the four different realms of circus arts: acrobatic, aerial, balance and dexterity.

Participants will practice three to four circus activities during each class to learn and develop the basic strength, flexibility and techniques of each skill. Students should wear comfortable, stretchy clothing, but no zippers or buckles as it damages equipment.

This hands-on class will cover how to melt, temper and turn the seeds of a 10,000-years-old fruit into delicious candies.

Dipping, clustering and decorating are just some of the skills you'll practice as you become a candymaker. Great for all ages and abilities bring the whole family and join in the holiday fun.

The pool is available to rent for private parties like birthdays, youth groups, and more. Neptune’s Cove, the Covington Aquatic Center’s party room accommodates up to 25 people and is available for an additional $50 fee. The party room can also be rented apart from the pool. Rentals are on the hour, and include 50 minutes of room use. Room use includes all set-up, party time and take-down.

LEARN-TO-SWIM

We are pleased to offer a comprehensive program designed by the American Red Cross. Classes are offered for all ages and all ability levels. Beginning levels focus on water adjustment and introduce basic swimming and water safety skills.

More advanced levels concentrate on stroke development, stroke refinement and additional water safety skills.

WHAT CLASS IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Placing of your child into the correct level is critical for their success. Each swimming level focuses on different skills, depending on age and ability. If your child is a beginner, they will start in the first level of either Parent & Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, or Learn to Swim, depending on their age.

If your child has had lessons before or has some swimming experience, their swimming ability needs to be assessed to determine the appropriate level in our swim lesson program.

We provide Placement Tests free of charge during our Public Swims.
