Athletics LEAGUES FALL SOCCER LEAGUE

Covington Parks and Recreation is offering fall soccer league for youth in the City of Covington and surrounding areas. This league aims at providing an opportunity for kids to learn about teamwork and sportsmanship.

Practices are held on weeknights and begin the last week of August. The volunteer coach determines the practice days and times.

Games are predominantly held on Saturdays at Covington Community Park and Kentwood High School. The season kicks off on September 10 and the ends on October 29.

There will be an end-of-season tournament for grades 1-6. To infuse fresh faces and teams we have partnered with the City of Auburn for grades 5-8. Games will be played at Auburn’s Game Farm Park and Covington Community Park. Registration closes on August 31.

Athletics WINTER BASKETBALL LEAGUE

The winter basketball league aims at providing an opportunity for kids to learn about teamwork and sportsmanship. Practices are held weeknights and begin the first week of January. The volunteer coach determines the practice day and time.

EBI BASKETBALL CLINIC

Save the date to join Eastside Basketball Institute (EBI) for a one-day basketball clinic on October 7 focusing on teaching young athletes, who possess a passion and strong desire to develop and improve their individual and fundamental basketball skills. The clinic will take place at a local middle school from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. Registration will be coming soon!

TRAILBLAZERS RUNNING CLUB

Join the Trailblazers Running Club this Fall! The Club mission is to develop young athletes in the fundamentals of track and field and cross country events while having FUN! In addition to training, athletes will have the option to participate in meets with other local parks and recreation teams, which will give them experience in competing against other teams and seeing their own individual progress. Registration will be coming soon!

• 1-4 hours per week depending on division (practice, game, & prep) • We supply all equipment, coaching, and league information • Attend the mandatory informational coaches meeting • Coaches choose their own practice day • The seasons are around 2 months long • We focus on being non-competitive, fun, and instructional!

WILDLIFE TOTEM WALK

Take a walk on the wild side. Come view the wildlife of Soos Creek Park as you learn a system of self-help and life assessment inspired by Native American traditions.

You will be introduced to using wildlife sightings as a method of personal introspection. Though lighthearted and fun, this walk contains biological, historical, zoological, and anthropological material relevant to Soos Creek Park.

Adult Programs Covington Parks & Recreation aims to offer a wide variety of recreational and athletic opportunities to the community. If you don’t find a class, sport or event in Covington, we encourage you to check in with our neighbors to the east - Maple Valley. Here are a few of their adult sports leagues coming this fall.

BIG BALL SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT

This unique softball tournament is played with a 16-inch, Chicago-style softball. Teams must have a min. of 4 females on defense and may bat in any order. All bats approved for this tournament and unlimited homeruns allowed. (Good luck!) Bring your glove and be ready to play RAIN OR SHINE on turf fields at Summit Park. Space is limited to 8 teams so early registration is encouraged.

WATER EXERCISE Water exercise classes are great aerobic and cardiovascular workouts that will help you increase your cardiovascular endurance, improve your heart rate, and help lower cholesterol and blood pressure. Our water exercise classes are 55 minutes long and available on a drop-in basis, as listed on the pool schedule.

WATERX BOOTCAMP

This class is for individuals who would like a low impact, but intense cardio, and muscle building workout, incorporating a mixed version of Shallow and Deep WaterX classes.

WATERX - SHALLOW AEROBICS

The pool is available to rent for private parties like birthdays, youth groups, and more. The pool is set-up like a weekend public swim for private pool rentals!

AQUA MEMBERSHIPS

Fee $250.00 per hour $50.00

Neptune’s Cove, the Covington Aquatic Center’s party room accommodates up to 40 people and is available for an additional $50 fee. The party room can also be rented apart from the pool. Rentals are on the hour, and include 50 minutes of room use. Room use includes all set-up, party time and take-down.

Classes located in the shallow end which utilizes aerobic and cardiovascular components. Being low-impact classes, they emphasize stretching, developing muscular strength, and developing range of motion.

WATERX - DEEP AEROBICS

Classes located in the deep end which give one of the greatest aerobic and toning workouts available with no impact to the body’s joints! These aerobic and cardiovascular classes provide muscular conditioning with particularly excellent core strengthening.

SWIM LESSONS

LEARN-TO-SWIM

We are pleased to offer a comprehensive program designed by the American Red Cross. Classes are offered for all ages and all ability levels. Beginning levels focus on water adjustment and introduce basic swimming and water safety skills. More advanced levels concentrate on stroke development, stroke refinement and additional water safety skills.

WHAT CLASS IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Placing of your child into the correct level is critical for their success. Each swimming level focuses on different skills, depending on age and ability. If your child is a beginner, they will start in the first level of either Parent & Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, or Learn to Swim, depending on their age. If your child has had lessons before or has some swimming experience, their swimming ability needs to be assessed to determine the appropriate level in our swim lesson program. We provide Placement Tests free of charge during our Public Swims.
