Welcome to Covington’s Newest Park!

FOUNDERS PARK IS NOW OPEN

A ribbon cutting was recently held for the city’s newest parkFounders Park - located in Covington’s downtown area.

Beginning in 2016, the City was able to acquire several adjacent properties on Wax Rd. With community input, a master plan was then completed for the park in 2022. This first phase of Founders Park has been constructed over the past year and includes trails, a lawn area, picnic tables and other furnishings.

The City would like to thank the team of people that have played a role in making this park possible:

• Our 47th district legislators: Senator Kauffman, Rep. Entenman, Rep. Stearns.

• The Covington City Council (past and current).

• The Covington Parks and Recreation Commission.

• HBB Architecture and their team for assisting with the master plan, park design and support through construction.

• Our contractor Rodarte Construction LLC who constructed the improvements.

• All the community members that have supported this project!

Funding for this project was provided by both a grant administered by the Washington State Department of Commerce and funds from the City of Covington. The Department of Commerce contributed $1,300,000 and $327,212 came from City’s General Fund Parks Reserve.

Please note that a few remaining items remain to be completed as part of the project and certain areas of the park may be closed for brief periods of time to complete work.

We are pleased to offer a comprehensive program designed by the American Red Cross. Classes are offered for all ages and all ability levels. Beginning levels focus on water adjustment and introduce basic swimming and water safety skills. More advanced levels concentrate on stroke development, stroke refinement and additional water safety skills.

WHAT CLASS IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

Placing of your child into the correct level is critical for their success. Each swimming level focuses on different skills, depending on age and ability. If your child is a beginner, they will start in the first level of either Parent & Child Aquatics, Preschool Aquatics, or Learn to Swim, depending on their age. If your child has had lessons before or has some swimming experience, their swimming ability needs to be assessed to determine the appropriate level in our swim lesson program. We provide Placement Tests free of charge during our Public and Family Swims.
