Cibolo Lending Library

Simon Sinek’s Start With Why explores how great leaders and organizations inspire action by clearly understanding and communicating their purpose, the “WHY,” behind what they do, rather than focusing only on the “what” or “how.” For City of Cibolo employees, Simon Sinek’s book helps reconnect our daily tasks to our core values by linking Professional Development, Accountability, Respect, Teamwork, and Integrity to a shared sense of community WHY and purpose. When an employee knows their “why” it allows them to hold themselves and each other accountable, treat colleagues with respect, and collaborate more effectively because they’re aligned around the City’s WHY. Yes, you’ve probably heard of this book or read more than a few Simon Sinek quotes, but seriously, come check out this book in our Lending Library! It’s a great, refreshing reminder of why we do what we do.

Employee Highlight

In October, Monica Martin, our Code Enforcement Manager, received the City Manager’s Coin for going above and beyond her job responsibilities to serve the community of Cibolo. When handling a code enforcement case, she saw a veteran in need and went the extra mile to coordinate a community volunteer cleanup of his property. She also honored his request for coffee and iced tea and offered fresh baked brownies, which she later went back and delivered. Monica’s only purpose was not to just enforce the law, but to respect our residents.

THANKSGIVING LUNCHEON-2025

Thank you to everyone who contributed to making our annual Thanksgiving Luncheon such a massive success this year! This event embodies our core value of Teamwork. Whether you gave your time to set up, brought in delicious food donations, or stayed late to help with the cleanup, your efforts did not go unnoticed. Happy Thanksgiving!

A special thank you to H-E-B Cibolo who generously donated 17 holiday pies this year for our dessert table and Mayor Latimer along with Council Members Jeff McGlothin, Joel Hicks, Donetta Roberts, Norma Sanchez-Stephens, and Randy Roberts who attended the event and assisted the Executive Team in serving the meal.

The goal of this question is to find out which teams are receiving good feedback from their supervisors and even their peers. If you are regularly receiving authentic, meaningful, and motivating feedback, you are more likely to be engaged while at work. Being more engaged at work leads to increased productivity and a greater overall sense of pride in your work.

Challenge- Recognition Relay: One person starts by praising a teammate That teammate then recognizes someone else within 24 hours, and so on, creating a chain of recognition.

SafeRide

Buzzed driving is drunk driving –just because someone may have had only one or two drinks does not mean they are OK to drive. Consuming alcohol can impair judgment and make people less likely to make the best decision for the safety of themselves and others. As a result, they may think they are OK to drive when they are not.

Alcohol slows a driver’s reaction time, reduces their ability to properly gauge speed or distance from other objects and makes it difficult for them to focus on the road

Sometimes, one or two drinks are all it takes to impair someone’s ability to drive Alcohol steadily decreases a person’s ability to drive a motor vehicle. The more you drink, the greater the effect. Here’s how it works:

If you find yourself in an unanticipated situation where you or someone you are riding with is incapacitated, call your local cab company or a rideshare for a safe ride home. For reimbursement, within 30 days, mail the following information: full name address e-mail address

name of your employer telephone number fully completed cab co. receipt see back for more on the AWP Guidelines Safe Ride

AWP will reimburse the cost of the farevwhen you choose to call a cab/rideshare in the event the employee or family member finds themselves impaired and unable to drive safely and responsibly Your employer will never know you submitted a claim.

Note:

AWP reimburses up to $50 00 per eligible fare, with receipt AWP does not reimburse tips, fees, tolls or surcharges. Covers distances up to 50 miles, one-way. We will reimburse fares from options such as UBER and Lyft, however, we do not reimburse any fees or surcharges associated with their use.

We all know drinking & driving don’t mix

Your employerencourages all employees and their family members to act responsibly by not driving under the influence of alcohol.

To ensure your safety, Alliance Work Partners (AWP) offersSafeRide. SafeRideis intended for those occasions when calling a cab or rideshare is the right thing to do. The program is provided to you at NO COST and is 100% CONFIDENTIAL. w u w

PLAN A SOBER RIDE

Planning ahead for a sober ride is the best way to ensure you get home safely. Don’t wait until after you have started drinking Designate a driver or arrange for someone you trust to pick you up. That also applies to others you know. If you know someone who is about to drive impaired, take their keys and find them a sober ride home.

SafeRide Rules

SafeRideis available to employees and family members for reimbursement up to $50.00 for a cab or rideshare distance of up to 50 miles one-way to the employee or family member’s place of residence, should the employee or family member be impaired and consequently, unable to drive responsibly.

All claims will be reviewed to ensure criteria for reimbursement is met. If the claim is approved for reimbursement, a check will be sent to you as reimbursement of the cab fare. Accompanying this reimbursement will be a letter detailing further use of the program and procedures thereof.

SafeRide Procedures:

1. The SafeRideProgram is not available for use for routine circumstances To promote healthy choices, SafeRidemay only be used up to 3 times Three (3) years from the third use, the individual’s ability to utilize SafeRidewill be reinstated

2

Upon receipt of second claim within a 12-month period, we will require you to contact our Case Management Department for a telephonic assessment. If deemed appropriate, the claim will be paid. The 1-year period begins the date of the first ride submitted for reimbursement through the SafeRide Program.

3.Upon receipt of a third claim within a 36-month period, we will require you to contact our Case Management Department to schedule a face-to-face assessment with a counselor prior to reimbursement of cab fare. If deemed appropriate, the claim will be paid. The 3-year period begins the date of the first ride submitted for reimbursement through the SafeRide Program..

4 Please note, AWP does not reimburse tips, fees, tolls or surcharges We will reimburse fares from rideshare options such as UBER and Lyft, however, we do not reimburse any fees or surcharges associated with their use

5.

The SafeRideProgram is intended for a ride from an event to one’s established residence Should an event occur in which this is not the case, additional information will be requested to further process the reimbursement claim AWP will reconsider claims should the individual submit additional information

6 Please be advised that as with all of our programs available through the EAP, we handle these with the utmost respect for your confidentiality. No information will be provided to your employer with regard to this program or use of the program.

What to Know About This Year’s Flu Season

The influenza (flu)season in the United Stateslasts from October throughMay, with peak fluactivity between December and March.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimates that 47 million to 82 million flu illnesses occurred during the 2024-25 season. Data suggested that flu activity was at its highest level in more than 15 years.

Flu season in the Southern Hemisphere often indicates what’s to come in the United States. Data revealed higher hospitalizations during the 2025 flu season in the Southern Hemisphere With the potential for this year’s flu season to be severe in the United States, vaccination remains the most effective way to prevent the flu, especially severe disease and hospitalization. How to Stay

Healthy

The flu can cause serious complications for people of any age, but children and older adults are especially vulnerable. To help keep your household healthy this flu season, consider these tips:

• Get vaccinated. The CDC recommends that nearly everyone aged 6 months and older get a flu shot every year.

•

Avoid close contact with people who are sick and stay away from others when you feel unwell Flu, cold and COVID-19 symptoms are similar, so doctors say it’s best to get tested to determine what you have.

• Wash your hands often using soap and warm water If those are unavailable, use an alcoholbased hand sanitizer.

• Cover your mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing.

•

•

Get seven to nine hours of quality sleep each night to boost your immune system.

Exercise regularly to strengthen your body and make it more resilient against infections

Stay hydrated and eat a balanced diet.

• Experts recommend getting vaccinated against the flu by the end of October, so don’t delay getting your shot. Contact your doctor today to learn more.
