THIS YEAR, PPD WILL BE CELEBRATING ONE DEPARTMENT EACH MONTH. IN APRIL, WE RECOGNIZED THE FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR ALL OF THEIR HARD WORK. THANK YOU!
APRIL IS SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH. SEXUAL VIOLENCE IS A PUBLIC HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUE THAT AFFECTS PEOPLE OF ALL AGES AND BACKGROUNDS. IT IS DIFFICULT TO DISCUSS AND OFTEN GOES UNMENTIONED, LEAVING MANY TO SUFFER IN SILENCE. THIS YEAR, THE CITY OF CIBOLO RECOGNIZES SEXUAL ASSAULT AWARENESS MONTH BY PARTICIPATING IN THE DENIM DAY CAMPAIGN.
DENIM DAY BEGAN MORE THAN 25 YEARS AGO AFTER THE ITALIAN SUPREME COURT OVERTURNED A RAPE CONVICTION BECAUSE THE JUSTICES STATED THAT SINCE THE VICTIM WAS WEARING TIGHT JEANS, SHE MUST HAVE HELPED THE PERSON WHO ASSAULTED HER REMOVE THEM, IMPLYING CONSENT. THE FOLLOWING DAY, WOMEN IN THE ITALIAN PARLIAMENT CAME TO WORK WEARING JEANS IN SOLIDARITY WITH THE VICTIM. THIS ACTION SPARKED WHAT IS NOW RECOGNIZED GLOBALLY AS DENIM DAY.

SDAY, APRIL 29TH.

According to HUB Wellness, Mental Health Awareness Month is observed every May to help break the stigma and support people living with mental health conditions. Mental illness refers to a range of diagnosed conditions that affect a person’s mood, behavior, feelings, thinking and, ultimately, ability to function in daily life. Millions of Americans live with serious mental disorders, such as anxiety, major depression and bipolar disorder.
Focusing on maintaining or improving your mental health is important, so here are five ways to boost your mental health on a daily basis:

The City will be hosting Bug Brothers Big Sisters interest meetings on Monday, June 1 and Monday, June 8. These are non-mandatory informational sessions with sign up opportunity. Supervisor approval is required before attending.

The City’s Dress Code policy (3.07) establishes the City’s expectation that all employees maintain a clean, neat, and professional appearance that reflects positively on the organization and aligns with the duties of their role. Employees are required to follow department-specific dress standards, including any required uniforms, safety gear, or job-related attire, and to seek clarification from supervisors when needed. The City supports reasonable accommodations for religious, cultural, or disabilityrelated needs through established processes, including the ADA interactive process In accordance with the Texas CROWN Act, the City prohibits discrimination based on hair texture or protective hairstyles, ensuring inclusive and equitable workplace standards.
Look Again: The Power of Noticing What Was Always There explores how our brains become desensitized to familiar stimuli, and how deliberately “looking again” can renew attention, motivation, and emotional engagement. For City of Cibolo employees, the book offers practical insights on improving public service by noticing overlooked details, enhancing resident’s experiences, and maintaining empathy and responsiveness in routine work It also highlights strategies to reduce burnout and increase job satisfaction by reframing everyday tasks and interactions This book is a new addition to the City’s lending librarycheck it out!

The Lending Library is available for Team Cibolo!
Located at the City Hall Annex (in the PPD hallway)
Stop by, check out a book, and continue your journey of growth and learning, just be sure to return your book within three weeks of the checkout date!

Roughly 6 out of every 10 people in the United States have mental health concerns meaning it’s highly likely you know or work with someone who has a mental health challenge.
According to the American Psychological Association , 77% of workers report work-related stress in the last month with 57% suffering negative impacts such as emotional exhaustion, lack of motivation, a desire to quit, and lower productivity.
Get a pulse on how your team is doing by looking for common signs of mental health issues:
Changes in mood: Persistent sadness, irritability, mood swings, or excessive worry can be signs of underlying mental health issues.
Withdrawal: If someone begins to withdraw from social activities, isolates themselves, or avoids interactions with others, it could indicate they are struggling emotionally.
Changes in behavior: Significant changes in behavior such as increased aggression, impulsivity, or reckless behavior may suggest underlying mental health concerns.
Difficulty concentrating: Trouble focusing, making decisions, or remembering things can be a sign of various mental health conditions, including depression and anxiety.
Changes in sleep patterns: Insomnia or oversleeping can be symptoms of mental health struggles. Pay attention if someone experiences significant changes in their sleep habits.
Changes in appetite or weight: Significant changes in eating habits, such as overeating or undereating, can be indicative of mental health issues such as depression or eating disorders.
Physical symptoms: Chronic headaches, stomachaches, or other physical complaints without a clear medical cause could be related to mental health issues.
Substance abuse: Increased use of alcohol, drugs, or other substances can be a way for individuals to cope with underlying mental health issues.
Lack of interest in activities: Losing interest in activities they used to enjoy or a decrease in motivation can be a sign of depression or other mental health concerns.
Suicidal thoughts or behaviors: Any mention or indication of suicidal thoughts or self-harm should be taken seriously and addressed immediately.
It's important to remember that everyone experiences ups and downs in their mental health, but if these signs persist or interfere with daily functioning, it may be a sign that professional help is needed. If you or someone you know is experiencing mental health struggles, reaching out to a mental health professional or a trusted individual for support is crucial.
