park news LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

2018 is going to be another amazing year for Chesterfield Parks, Recreation & Arts Department and our community. From new sports to new events, I invite you all to come and enjoy all that we have to offer.

Returning family favorites, such as our Sounds of Summer free concert series at the Chesterfield Amphitheater and Family Fun Day at the Ballpark held at our Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex will be back to entertain and delight all ages. Some new events this year are our First Annual Shamrock 5K/10K and Lil’ Leprechaun Run on March 10, bringing the luck of the Irish to Chesterfield, and brand new sand volleyball courts at CVAC, if you’re looking for a way to get your toes in the sand.

Chesterfield Family Aquatic Center will be open Memorial Day through Labor Day for those looking to beat the heat, including our furry friends at the end of the summer at K9 Splash. If you’re looking for something a bit more relaxed, grab your blanket and head to the Chesterfield Amphitheater for Movies under the Stars with the kids, or the Chesterfield Wine and Jazz Festival for a date night. Our 55+ programs provide activities at various activity levels, from our Senior Walking group to Senior Seminars educating older adults on various topics. Spring Break Sports Camp is back for parents looking for a fun option for Spring Break vacation that will get the kids up and out of the house. For the sport loving members of the community, we have many options, from Start Smart Baseball for the little ones to Adult Softball and Volleyball leagues for adults.

For information on the go, we encourage our residents and visitors to download our app to receive convenient up-to-date information on our events, programs and weather-related notifications. With many state-of-the-art facilities, over 512 acres of park land and 23 miles of running, walking and biking trail routes, Chesterfield has become a prime location for entertainment, recreation, art and leisure. As always, our maintenance staff works hard to keep our facilities and parks beautiful and safe, for all our events and programs, as well as community enjoyment.

Don’t miss the Tiny House Party • Chesterfield Ampthitheater • June 7 • 6:30p.m. - 9:30 p.m.

The tiny house movement has captivated imaginations and, in our case, inspired community philanthropy. A collaborative effort between Habitat For Humanity St. Louis, City of Chesterfield Parks, Recreation, and Arts Department, St. Louis Community College-Interior Design Program, and a variety St. Louis Area home products and services are building a tiny house!

Working together the all-star team gathered the necessary materials and supplies designed for the project and contructed a home. The group created a tiny house that allows visitors of events at the Chesterfield Amphitheater to walk through the onsite display home. The guests will have the chance to explore the space featuring local products and services provided by St. Louis Area businesses for their not so tiny houses.

Raffle tickets to win the tiny house will be available onsite during events, online and through our affiliate businesses through the end of August 2018 to raise funds to further Habitat for Humanity St. Louis’ mission to continue to create affordable housing for hardworking people who simply need the opportunity to build a better future for themselves. Come out and compete in a bike, run, swim competition. The swimming portion will end on the mini slides at the Chesterfield Family Aquatic Center.

AGES 6-8: 25-yard swim, 1-mile bike ride and ½ mile run.

AGES 9-12: 75-yard swim, 2-mile bike ride, and a 1-mile run.

SAFETY: Non-swimmers may complete the swim portion with the aid of a life jacket or kickboard. However, athletes using swim aids will not be eligible for the overall awards.

4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS CELEBRATION Wednesday, July 4 • Chesterfield Mall • 6:30 p.m. • FREE Come join us for the 4th of July Fireworks Celebration that has grown to be the biggest and best fireworks show in the metropolitan area, presented by the City of Chesterfield. The Main Stage will feature live music from Fat Pocket, St. Louis’ highest energy party band featuring razor sharp rhythms, hot horns and powerhouse vocals, from 7:30 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. This “A-List” award winning band will move your guests to the dance floor for a non-stop dance party.

The Commerce Bank Kid’s Zone will have Circus Kaput, a two-hour circus show featuring unicycling, juggling, magic, aerial acts, stiltwalker, teeterboard, fire breathing, acrobatics, audience participation and much more. The Kid’s Zone will also have 15 carnival games including putt-putt challenges, a frog hop and , MO IELD ring toss, plus two bubble machines! Inflatable bounce houses, slides and an obstacle course will keep the kids entertained before the fireworks show. Kid’s Zone will be open from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

The Chesterfield Family Fun Day at the Ballpark will again feature the amazing Safety Zone brought to you by the Monarch Fire Dept. and Chesterfield Police Dept.. Bring the whole family for an exciting day of sports, games, and crafts while also exploring the Safety Zone. Our baseball fields will be the site for many fun filled activities for area youth such as knocker ball, wiffleball, inflatables, kickball, and much more. Local emergency personnel, along with emergency vehicles, helicopters, and equipment will be on hand to lead interactive safety activities and demonstrations that will allow the whole family to learn more about everyday safety in a fun and engaging way. Take a bucket ride in one of the firetrucks, learn CPR, or put out a fire with one of our local heroes to see what it takes to keep us all safe. Additional vendors and safety themed booths will add to the experience by providing free information and materials for kids and parents alike. Registration is open for the 2018 CROC Swim Team! All children between the ages of 5-18 who want to be on a swim team come join in the fun this summer! This swim team promotes a fun and positive environment for all swimmers. The Chesterfield Swim Team is a recreational team with an emphasis on developing basic competitive swim skills, while having fun and making new friends. The Swim Team will compete against other teams in the Southwest St. Louis County Municipal Swim League. (Min. 60 swimmers) Registration deadline is May 1.

Mini Crocs is a new program for kids ages 4-6 with an interest in joining the Chesterfield Crocs Swim Team. Young swimmers can gain skill and confidence by joining the pre-team program, an extension of the swim team, before joining the Crocs. All swimmers will be assessed during the first week of practice. Mini Crocs must be able to swim half the length of the pool unassisted without stopping and/ or grabbing the wall during Swim Team practice, but kickboards will be available. We do not expect your swimmer to have the perfect stroke, this requirement is a safety precaution. Please note that the Mini Crocs is not a substitute for swim lessons.

Monday-Friday • 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. • Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex The Spring Break Sports Camp is a fun and exciting new camp at the Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex! It allows area youth to stay active during the week of Spring Break. The camp runs for two separate weeks, March 12 through March 16 (Rockwood) and March 26 through March 30 (Parkway) and offers a different sport each day. Choose one day or choose the whole week! Our knowledgeable staff will teach your child the fundamentals of their sport and apply those skills to a game situation. All campers will be separated by age group during instruction to ensure the proper age appropriate techniques are being taught to be sure your child has a positive experience with each sport.

When not participating in the sport of the day, other outdoor activities, or trips campers will have a variety of games, arts and crafts, movies, and video games at their disposal indoors along with snacks and drinks. There will also be field trips to Upper Limits, SportsFusion, and Sky Zone.

The beautiful amphitheater is an intimate venue that combines stylish, modern architecture and state-of-theart audio technology with community charm. The amphitheater has hosted a variety of talent including Frankie Ballard, Diamond Rio, Edwin McCain, Scotty McCreery, Kenny Loggins, Kip Moore, and Aaron Lewis.

This 176 acre complex in the Valley consists of 19 ball diamonds, 14 multi-purpose fields (soccer, football, lacrosse and Ultimate Frisbee), 12 baseball/softball practice fields, 6 sand volleyball courts, 4 concession buildings, 2 playgrounds and 4 parking lots.

These fields are utilized for organized play such as youth and adult leagues, tournaments, camps and clinics.

This peaceful 188-acre passive park is conveniently located near the heart of Chesterfield Valley, but is tucked quietly away from the bustling retail commerce just south of the Missouri River. To access the heart of the park, visitors walk less than 1/4 mile on a crushed limestone trail before the trail opens up to a beautiful lake surrounded by a wall of mature trees on every side. The trail continues around the entire 1.6 mile circumference of the lake and branches off to one boardwalk and a mulched trail.

The park offers a convenient boating dock attached to a park shelter for fishing enthusiasts. The Parks, Recreation & Arts Department has provided the copious amount of fish that occupy the lake. River’s Edge Park parking is in the shared parking lot on the western edge of the Taubman Prestige Outlets. The park is open year-round from sunrise to sunset.

TRAIL The trail and surrounding wooded area has welcomed naturelovers and environmentalists as well.

Bird watching is a popular activity at the park. Chesterfield is rich in different habitats and ecosystems and this makes for some prime bird watching experiences. The park and its surrounding areas offer habitats for many species of woodland songbirds and woodpeckers. FISHING RULES & REGULATIONS • River’s Edge Park is open to the public from sunrise to sunset.

• U.S. Coast Guard Approved Personal Flotation Devices are required on the water.

• Children must be supervised at all times on ramp and dock.

• Motor-free boats are welcome in the lake; however, must be portaged from the road.

All motor vehicles or motor boats are prohibited on the lake. No trolling motors.

• All state fishing regulations apply. Visit the Missouri Department of Conservation website at mdc.mo.gov/fishing/ fishing-regulations for more information. All participants must have a Missouri Fishing License.

• No trotline, jug or tree limb line fishing.

• One fishing pole per person.

• For safety reasons, the following activities are prohibited: swimming, diving, hunting, camping, ice skating and skateboarding. No glass bottles, tobacco products or weapons of any kind. Fireworks, explosives and fires are also not permitted in the park.

parks, facilities & trails EBERWEIN PARK 1627 Old Baxter Road The City of Chesterfield purchased this 18-acre site from the Eberwein family several years ago for the purposes of developing a community park. This park is named after the Eberwein family who first settled in Chesterfield over 100 years ago. The Eberwein family used this land as a farm and their residence up until the time of purchase by the city. To preserve the history, character, and charm of the site, the Eberwein Park was designed as a passive community park with a farm-like theme. To accomplish this, the existing large red barn, which was originally constructed in the early 1900s, has been preserved.

ART IN THE PARK “The Coyote” is a life-size bronze sculpture created by Harry Weber depicting a coyote standing in heightened awareness of his surroundings.

NATIVE PRAIRIE GARDEN Eberwein Park has an interactive native prairie that provides quality habitat and food sources for local wildlife, especially our pollinators. The Chesterfield Parks, Recreation & Arts Department received a Community Stewardship Grant through the Missouri Department of Conservation to create the prairie that will also incorporate walking paths throughout, and provide opportunities for learning about the plants, animals, and insects that share our parks.

“Dog Days” is a fiberglass chair beautifully painted in acrylic to reflect the fun and carefree nature of dogs in the spirit of play within the Dog Park.

The artist, Michelle Streiff, used her own beloved Jack Russell Terriers as her inspiration for the piece. For details about our public art, visit chesterfield.mo.us/art-in-the-park.html.

DOG PARK (MEMBERS ONLY) This two-acre Dog Park offers pups the opportunity to explore the great outdoors, whether its running around with their friends or exploring the trees and bushes. There are separate areas for small and large dogs. The Dog Park is open to residents ONLY and each dog must wear their own dog park tag. Dog tags for each dog are $30. Please visit City Hall during normal business hours for an application. To register your dog, you will need to have documentation that the dog has been spayed or neutered, proof of residency and rabies records for each dog. Dogs younger than four months are not allowed in the Dog Park.

parks, facilities & trails W.F. DIERBERG MEDITATION PARK 13701 Olive Boulevard The W.F. Dierberg Meditation Park is a 2-acre park that features walking paths, open green space, park benches, a butterfly garden and a fountain.

WETLANDS TRAILS 17925 North Outer 40 Road The city currently operates and maintains 43 acres of wetland area, located on the east side of the A5 field at the CVAC on the north side of the levee, which consists of a nature trail and boardwalk.

MONARCH-CHESTERFIELD LEVEE TRAIL The Monarch-Chesterfield Levee Trail is an 11-mile long trail that encompasses the majority of commercial, industrial and recreational land uses in Chesterfield Valley. The new bridge path, completed in June 2016, connects the Monarch Levee Trail in St. Louis County to the Katy Trail in St. Charles County.

The Monarch Chesterfield Levee provides an exceptional trail riding experience for over 250 miles.

RIPARIAN TRAIL Lydia Hill Drive & Veterans Place Drive

The trailhead at Lydia Hill Dr& Veterans Place Dr is CLOSED. Access to the Riparian Trail will be located 0.5 miles west on Lydia Hill Dr. The Riparian Trail Connection will be reconstructed and open late Fall of 2018.

The Riparian Trail is a half mile long and is part of a five-phase plan to construct a pedestrian/bike path, which will begin near the Chesterfield Family Aquatic Center and will extend to Old Chesterfield Road. Parking is available at the Aquatic Center parking lot. Download the mobile app for updates.

This 33-acre park is currently undeveloped, and will ultimately be used for passive recreation opportunities. Currently there is a grass-mowed trail there for use that is close to a mile in length just off the Monarch Levee Trail.

Reservation permits for the use of the Chesterfield Family Aquatic Center and the Central Park Pavilion can be obtained at City Hall, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. No phone reservations will be accepted. Please call 636.812.9500 for more information on the use of the Chesterfield Amphitheater, Family Aquatic Center, Athletic Complex and the CVAC Party Package. Reservations must be made two weeks prior to the rental date. Damage/security deposit is required on all reservations.

CHESTERFIELD AMPHITHEATER The amphitheater can host a variety of theatrical, musical, educational, corporate events and is perfect for hosting a wedding. With 304 fixed seats and the ability to hold around 4,000 overall, as well as the 4,200 square foot performance platform, the amphitheater is equipped to host large or small events.

Set within Central Park, the Chesterfield Amphitheater is an intimate and stylish venue that combines state-of-the-art audio technology and modern architecture with community charm.

policies POLICIES RESIDENCY POLICY Residents may only receive the discounted rates on programs, rentals, pool passes (new and renewals) and daily admissions if an official valid Missouri driver’s license or state ID card, with valid Chesterfield address is presented at the time of the transaction. 2018 pool season passes, programs and rentals are available for purchase at City Hall. Call 636.537.4000 for details.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION All registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. See specific program descriptions for registration details and class minimums and maximums. Registrations can be made in person by visiting City Hall. Online registration is available for most programs and to renew season pool passes. For information on the process, please go to event and/or program page on chesterfield.mo.us and follow registration instructions.

Phone registrations are accepted for FREE programs only.

CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICIES Twenty-five percent (25%) of the registration fee will be charged to cover administrative and processing costs. The city will process all refunds according to the bill-paying schedule.

There will be no cash refunds. No refunds will be made except: • When a class/program/special event is canceled or closed by the Parks, Recreation & Arts Department due to low enrollment or other circumstances. In this case, the city will provide a 100% refund.

• When the refund is requested at least fourteen (14) days in advance of the class/program/special event, provided it does not reduce the proper participation level below the required minimum.

• When participants become ill (you must present a doctor’s statement) and notify the Parks, Recreation & Arts Department. However, you will be assessed the 25% administration fee and the remaining fee will be prorated as long as your cancellation does not reduce the participation level below the required minimum.

FEES & CHARGES POLICY The City of Chesterfield Parks, Recreation & Arts Department prides itself on providing a wide variety of recreational services to its citizens. The Department recognizes its responsibility to provide recreational opportunities that contribute toward the quality of life in Chesterfield. Realizing that tax dollars alone should not subsidize programs and facilities, fees and charges have been established to help offset existing costs. The prime objective of these guidelines is to develop a policy to efficiently direct our department toward a more consistent and effective method of establishing fees and charges while, at the same time, maintaining a high degree of equity for Chesterfield citizens.

We are currently in the construction phase of 6 sand volleyball courts at the Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex (CVAC). The Chesterfield Parks, Recreation and Arts Department will be hosting leagues in June. the courts will be available for rentals, tournaments, fundraisers, etc. For updates on the progress, get added to our email list at chesterfield.mo.us/webmail.html.
