park news LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR
2017 is a year of new and exciting events and programs in the Parks, Recreation & Arts Department! First off, we want to invite you to the Dedication Ceremony for Veterans Honor Park, which will be held on May 3. This beautiful park honors all veterans – past, present and future – and is a site dedicated to our heroes in the Armed Forces. Don’t miss our free Kentucky Derby party on May 6. You better wear your finest hat because there will be one fashionable winner at the end of the night! Summer evenings will include family movies under a blanket of stars at the Chesterfield Amphitheater, league play and tournaments at the Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex and relaxing poolside at the Chesterfield Family Aquatic Center. We have new camps for kids of all ages, including the Spring Break Sports Camp and our reliable favorite, Start Smart Baseball. Adults and parents can escape their responsibilities for a couple of hours during the week playing in the Adult Softball Leagues or watching a live band perform at the Amphitheater. The older adults are always thrilled to register for fun trips to the Missouri wineries, historic tours and sizzlers at the West County Family Y. We will also have an exciting monthly community event coming soon, Party Off the Parkway. We will have live music, a farmers market, get active events, restaurants and food trucks, plus much more!

parks, facilities & trails EBERWEIN PARK 1627 Old Baxter Road The City of Chesterfield purchased this 18-acre site from the Eberwein family several years ago for the purposes of developing a community park. This park is named after the Eberwein family who first settled in Chesterfield over 100 years ago. The Eberwein family used this land as a farm and their residence up until the time of purchase by the city. To preserve the history, character, and charm of the site, the Eberwein Park was designed as a passive community park with a farm-like theme. To accomplish this, the existing large red barn, which was originally constructed in the early 1900s, has been preserved.
ART IN THE PARK “The Coyote” is a life-size bronze sculpture created by Harry Weber depicting a coyote standing in heightened awareness of his surroundings. “Dog Days” is a fiberglass chair beautifully painted in acrylic to reflect the fun and carefree nature of dogs in the spirit of play within the Dog Park. The artist, Michelle Streiff, used her own beloved Jack Russell Terriers as her inspiration for the piece. For details about our public art, visit chesterfield.mo.us/art-in-the-park.html.

Dogs younger than four months are not allowed in the Dog Park. NATIVE PRAIRIE GARDEN Eberwein Park has an interactive native prairie that provides quality habitat and food sources for local wildlife, especially our pollinators. The Chesterfield Parks, Recreation & Arts Department received a Community Stewardship Grant through the Missouri Department of Conservation to create the prairie that will also incorporate walking paths throughout, and provide opportunities for learning about the plants, animals, and insects that share our parks. FEES & CHARGES POLICY The City of Chesterfield Parks, Recreation & Arts Department prides itself on providing a wide variety of recreational services to its citizens. The Department recognizes its responsibility to provide recreational opportunities that contribute toward the quality of life in Chesterfield. Realizing that tax dollars alone should not subsidize programs and facilities, fees and charges have been established to help offset existing costs. The prime objective of these guidelines is to develop a policy to efficiently direct our department toward a more consistent and effective method of establishing fees and charges while, at the same time, maintaining a high degree of equity for Chesterfield citizens.
SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES The Chesterfield Parks, Recreation & Arts Department hosts a variety of events and recreational programs throughout the year, bringing a community of all ages together.
