park news RIVER’S EDGE PARK OPENS! North of Taubman Outlet Mall
Chesterfield Parks & Recreation is excited to announce the Grand Opening of our newest park, River’s Edge! We will celebrate the Grand Opening on Saturday, April 11 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. The festivities will include hands on outdoor activities and free snacks will be available to the first 200 people. River’s Edge is a beautiful 188-acre passive park with a 38.5acre lake. The park features a 2+ mile crushed limestone walking trail with breathtaking scenery and wonderful wildlife. The park is located on the north side of the levee near the Taubman Outlet Mall at the western end of the parking lot. Parking will be in the shared parking lot of the outlet mall. Park Rules & Regulations: • Motor-free boats are welcome in the lake; however, must be portaged from the road. All motor vehicles or motor boats are prohibited in the lake. No trolling motors. • All state fishing regulations apply. Visit mdc.mo.gov/fishing/fishing-regulations for more information. All participants must have a Missouri Fishing License or be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian if under the age of 18. • No trotline, jug or tree limb line fishing. • For safety reasons, the following activities are prohibited: swimming, hunting, camping, ice skating and skateboarding. No glass bottles or tobacco products, weapons of any kind. Fireworks or explosives are not permitted in the park.

Come join us for the 4th of July Fireworks Celebration that has grown to be the biggest and best fireworks show in the metropolitan area, presented by the City of Chesterfield and Renewal by Anderson and sponsored in part by Sachs Properties and Chesterfield Mall. The main viewing area will be in the west parking lot near Dillard’s and Macy’s at Chesterfield Mall. The Main Stage will present a FREE concert starting at 7 p.m. featuring Dogs of Society, an Elton John Tribute band. Chesterfield has teamed up with the Dirk’s Fund Golden Retriever Rescue Group for the annual K-9 Splash. There is a maximum of two dogs per family and you must bring your dog’s most recent vaccination records in order to participate. (No puppies under four months.) All dogs need to be neutered or spayed.

Build boats from corrugated cardboard and duct tape! The boats must hold at least two people and make it 50 feet to the finish line. The oars have to be made of cardboard or you can use your hands! SENIOR WALKING CLUB
Grab a friend and come out every Wednesday, April 22 through May 27 and get some exercise! We will meet at the Central Park Pavilion at 8 a.m. and walk around the lake. To kick off these walks, Mindy Mohrman, the City’s Arborist will lead the group through the native landscape
surrounding the lake. This is a great place to see and learn about native trees, plants and wildflowers and a huge variety of birds. PICKLEBALL!
Chesterfield now has an outdoor pickleball court at the CVAC! The season will start off with a clinic, which will be held by an Ambassador for the USAPA in St. Louis on Tuesday, April 21 at 10 a.m. (rain date is April 23). The Ambassador will cover a brief history of the game and will explain the rules. To make reservations, please call 636.812.9500. Games will be on Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. beginning on Thursday, April 23 (or April 28 for rain date). Individuals that do not
have their own paddle and balls, can come into the Park Office and can pick up the equipment and return when finished. All that is needed to rent is a valid drivers license. Pickleball is a paddle sport created for all ages and skill levels. The rules are simple and the game is easy to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for experienced players. This fun sport combines elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong.

Swim lessons are taught by certified instructors and have a maximum student/instructor ratio of 6/1 (8/1 for “Shrimp”, 4/1 “Sea Horse”). Due to a four-student minimum, classes may be combined when necessary. Class sizes are limited. Registration begins for residents on March 28, and April 6 for general. All children between the ages of 5-18 who want to be on a swim team come join in the fun this summer! This swim team promotes a fun and positive environment for all swimmers. The Chesterfield Swim Team is a recreational team with an emphasis on developing basic competitive swim skills, while having fun and making new friends. The Coast Guard will put on the boating skills and seamanship course. It is a comprehensive course designed for both the experienced and the novice boater. The course will fulfill the requirements for the MO Highway Patrol and allow you to apply for your Missouri Boaters license. This 38-acre park offers a scenic trail that wraps around a beautiful lake with a gazebo bridge, an Art Walk and landscaped stream walks for the more adventurous travelers. Parents can relax on the benches at the playgound, while kids swing and climb on the jungle gyms as they play with their friends. The Central Park playground will undergo some major surface repairs this year and a few play feature improvements. The Parks & Recreation Division will be adding a synthetic surface for year round play and increased safety.
All state fishing regulations apply. Visit mdc.mo.gov/ fishing/fishing-regulations for more information. All participants must have a Missouri Fishing License or be accompanied by a parent/legal guardian. NATIVE PRAIRIE GARDEN
The Chesterfield Parks & Recreation Division received a Community Stewardship Grant through the Missouri Department of Conservation to turn a one acre field of turf grass at Eberwein Park into an interactive native prairie planting. Native prairies provide quality habitat and food sources for local wildlife, especially our pollinators. The prairie will incorporate walking paths throughout, and provide opportunities for learning about the plants, animals, and insects that share our parks. A seed mix of colorful native perennial flowers and grasses was installed in the fall of 2014. Many native perennial flowering plants take 3-5 years to start producing flowers, so be prepared to discover new plants with each passing season and enjoy watching our prairie while it matures.

DOG PARK
This two-acre Dog Park offers pups the opportunity to explore the great outdoors, whether its running around with their friends or exploring the trees and bushes, with separate areas for small and large dogs. The Dog Park is open to residents ONLY and each dog must wear their own dog park tag. Dog tags for each dog are $30 and are available at City Hall during normal business hours or for online registration, please go to chesterfield.mo.us/eberweindogpark.html. To register your dog, you will need to have documentation that the dog has been spayed or neutered, proof of residency and rabies records for each dog. Dogs younger than four months are not allowed in the Dog Park.

parks & trails MONARCH-CHESTERFIELD LEVEE TRAIL
The Monarch-Chesterfield Levee Trail is an 11 mile long trail that will encompass the majority of commercial, industrial and recreational land uses in Chesterfield Valley. Due to construction on the Daniel Boone Bridge, a portion of the trail is closed through 2016. Once the Daniel Boone Bridge reopens, there will be a pedestrian bike path across the bridge connecting to the Katy Trail that will increase the exceptional trail riding experience for over 250 miles.
RIPARIAN TRAIL
The Riparian Trail is a half mile long and is part of a three-phase plan to construct a pedestrian /bike path, which will begin near the Aquatic Center and will extend to Old Chesterfield Road. The trail will eventually connect to the Monarch-Chesterfield Levee Trail. Parking is available at the Family Aquatic Center parking lot. The trail’s east entrance can be found on the south side of Lydia Hill Drive at its intersection with Veterans Place Drive.

North of Taubman Outlet Mall River’s Edge Park is a beautiful 188-acre passive park with a 38.5-acre lake. The park features a 2+ mile walking trail with breathtaking scenery and wonderful wildlife. The park is located on the north side of the levee near the Taubman Outlet Mall on the western end of the parking lot. Parking is in the shared parking lot of the outlet mall.

The W.F. Dierberg Meditation Park is a 2-acre park that features walking paths, open green space, park benches, a butterfly garden and a fountain.

PEDAL THE CAUSE SATURDAY & SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 26-27 CHESTERFIELD AMPHITHEATER Pedal the Cause, a cycling event that raises funds to support cancer research, is coming to the Chesterfield Amphitheater! Pedal the Cause has seen extraordinary growth in the number of cyclists who are determined to end cancer and raised $2.76 million in 2014 to accelerate lifesaving cancer research at Siteman Caner Center and St. Louis Children’s Hospital.
