park news LETTER FROM THE DIRECTOR

Did you know that 73% of adults believe that parks, trails and open space are an essential part of the healthcare system?* I happen to be one of the adults who believes this and as the Director of Parks, Recreation, and Arts, my goal is to have that number rise even higher year after year.

Chesterfield is home to over 560 acres of parkland, green space, trails, a state of the art outdoor Amphitheater, a renowned aquatic facility, an athletic complex that sees over 1.4 million visitors each year, a Veterans Honor Park, resident dog park, 2 community gardens, and more. Our residents have so many options to get out, explore the City, and realize just what makes all of these items so essential to their health.

Families and individuals can come together and stretch their legs in one of our annual 5k/10k and fun runs; the Shamrock Run, Stars and Stripes and coming up soon, the Turkey Trot or the Candy Cane Dash. If running isn’t your thing, hop on your bike and ride over to the Chesterfield Family Aquatic Center. Summer isn’t over yet, there is still time to take a Discover Scuba class, ride the lazy river, or bring your furry friends to our end of the year K9 Splash in September!

If music is more your vibe, check out ChesterfieldAmphitheater.com for a full schedule at our beautiful outdoor music venue. Coming up, we have our annual Backstoppalooza, (which benefits Backstoppers, Inc.), Gary Allan, Celebration Day, and Cody Johnson. There is something for everyone’s taste and you will not find a more intimate and celebrated venue to relax with friends and let the music heal your soul.

Looking to heal through knowledge? Look no further than our Senior Sizzlers programs for older adults. These are seminars and classes that allow you to learn a little bit about items of interest to you. Come out to CVAC to learn how to play pickle ball, visit City Hall to learn more about Medicare or researching your family history, take an informational day trip to Jefferson Barracks with likeminded individuals…the options are limitless.

No matter what ways or steps you take to getting healthy, there is something about getting outside, feeling the wind against you on the trail, watching your kiddo catch their first fish at Central Park Lake, singing at the top of your lungs at a concert with friends, finishing a 5k with your friends and family; these are the moments that help your health in more ways than one.

The exhibit will be on display in the City Hall lobby, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (excluding holidays).

Age 2-12 Registration ends December 6 $8 before November 15 $12 November 16 through Hunt Day Come hunt down all your candy canes for the holiday season. The hunt will end when all the candy canes are found. Each age group will have their own areas for their hunt. Hot cocoa will be provided during the hunt.

This program’s intention is to get children ages 5-14 active for 3060 minutes a day. This BINGO board gives children many different options to choose from to get active each day. Once a participant has BINGO, they must bring their board to the Parks Department office to receive their prize.

Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex, 17925 N Outer 40 Rd. 3rd annual St. Patrick’s Race. First place in each category will receive a medal. Age groups are separated by male and female and are 12 and under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, 70+. Packet Pick Up will be March 6 at the Parks admin building, 17891 N. Outer 40 Rd., 8 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and race day at CVAC starting at 7:30 a.m.

The Chesterfield Recreation Youth Soccer League will give area youth the opportunity to learn and develop soccer skills. This seven-week league will take place on Saturdays the Chesterfield Valley Athletic Complex. Games will start no earlier than 9 a.m. Participants will receive a uniform top, socks and soccer ball. Participants register individually and will be placed on co-ed teams in the age division 3/4 and 5/6. Older age divisions register individually in gender specific divisions. At the time of registration, participants will be able to request a teammate and coach. Coaches are voluntary and will receive their child’s registration free for the league. Coaches will need to plan on attending a coach meeting on Sunday, March 15.

ADULT SOFTBALL-SPRING Coed begins April 6, 2020 Men’s begins April 7, 2020 Game times start between 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Chesterfield has teamed up with the Dirk’s Fund Golden Retriever Rescue Group for the annual K-9 Splash. There is a maximum of two dogs per family and you must bring your dog’s most recent vaccination records in order to participate. (No puppies under 4 months.) All dogs need to be neutered or spayed.

RECYCLES DAY

Saturday, November 2 9 a.m. - Noon Chesterfield Mall (parking lot between Sears and Macy’s) In their effort to promote energy conservation and recycling, the Chesterfield Citizens Committee for the Environment will be hosting an event to celebrate Chesterfield/Missouri/ America Recycles Day on Saturday, November 2 from 9 a.m. to Noon at Chesterfield Mall with a drive-thru recycling collection through the parking lot between Sears and Macy’s.

Free to attend. Donations welcome, and will support OpenDoor. Hang out with fellow dog lovers for the Yappy Howl-O-Ween Pawty! Be sure to dress up your dog because photos will be taken at the event between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.

Dog tags must be on the collar for dog park members. Non-members must bring recent vaccination records. No dogs under 4 months.

This peaceful 188-acre passive park is conveniently located near the heart of Chesterfield Valley, but is tucked quietly away from the bustling retail commerce just south of the Missouri River. To access the heart of the park, visitors walk less than 1/4 mile on a crushed limestone trail before the trail opens up to a beautiful lake surrounded by a wall of mature trees on every side. The trail continues around the entire 1.6 mile circumference of the lake and branches off to one boardwalk and a mulched trail.

The park offers a convenient boating dock attached to a park shelter for fishing enthusiasts. The Parks, Recreation & Arts Department has provided the copious amount of fish that occupy the lake. River’s Edge Park parking is in the shared parking lot on the western edge of the Taubman Prestige Outlets. The park is open year-round from sunrise to sunset.

TRAIL The trail and surrounding wooded area has welcomed naturelovers and environmentalists as well.

Bird watching is a popular activity at the park. Chesterfield is rich in different habitats and ecosystems and this makes for some prime bird watching experiences. The park and its surrounding areas offer habitats for many species of woodland songbirds and woodpeckers. FISHING RULES & REGULATIONS • River’s Edge Park is open to the public from sunrise to sunset.

• U.S. Coast Guard Approved Personal Flotation Devices are required on the water.

• Children must be supervised at all times on ramp and dock.

• Motor-free boats are welcome in the lake; however, must be portaged from the road.

All motor vehicles or motor boats are prohibited on the lake. No trolling motors.

• All state fishing regulations apply. Visit the Missouri Department of Conservation website at mdc.mo.gov/fishing/ fishing-regulations for more information. All participants must have a Missouri Fishing License.

• No trotline, jug or tree limb line fishing.

• One fishing pole per person.

• For safety reasons, the following activities are prohibited: swimming, diving, hunting, camping, ice skating and skateboarding. No glass bottles, tobacco products or weapons of any kind. Fireworks, explosives and fires are also not permitted in the park.

parks, facilities & trails EBERWEIN PARK 1627 Old Baxter Road The City of Chesterfield purchased this 18-acre site from the Eberwein family several years ago for the purposes of developing a community park. This park is named after the Eberwein family who first settled in Chesterfield over 100 years ago. The Eberwein family used this land as a farm and as their residence up until the time of purchase by the City. To preserve the history, character, and charm of the site, the Eberwein Park was designed as a passive community park with a farm-like theme. To accomplish this, the existing large red barn, which was originally constructed in the early 1900s, has been preserved.

ART IN THE PARK “The Coyote” is a life-size bronze sculpture created by Harry Weber depicting a coyote standing in heightened awareness of his surroundings.

“Dog Days” is a fiberglass chair beautifully painted in acrylic to reflect the fun and carefree nature of dogs in the spirit of play within the Dog Park.

There are separate areas for small and large dogs. Each dog must wear their own dog park tag. Please visit City Hall during normal business hours for an application. To register your dog, you will need to have documentation that the dog has been spayed or neutered, proof of residency and rabies records for each dog. Dogs younger than 4 months are not allowed in the Dog Park.

NATIVE PRAIRIE GARDEN Eberwein Park has an interactive native prairie that provides quality habitat and food sources for local wildlife, especially our pollinators. The Chesterfield Parks, Recreation & Arts Department received a Community Stewardship Grant through the Missouri Department of Conservation to create the prairie that will also incorporate walking paths throughout, and provide opportunities for learning about the plants, animals, and insects that share our parks.

parks, facilities & trails W.F. DIERBERG MEDITATION PARK 13701 Olive Boulevard The W.F. Dierberg Meditation Park is a 2-acre park that features walking paths, open green space, park benches, a butterfly garden and a fountain.

WETLANDS TRAILS 17925 North Outer 40 Road The city currently operates and maintains 43 acres of wetland area, located on the east side of the A5 field at the CVAC on the north side of the levee, which consists of a nature trail and boardwalk.

MONARCH-CHESTERFIELD LEVEE TRAIL The Monarch-Chesterfield Levee Trail is an 11-mile long trail that encompasses the majority of commercial, industrial and recreational land uses in Chesterfield Valley. The new bridge path, completed in June 2016, connects the Monarch Levee Trail in St. Louis County to the Katy Trail in St. Charles County.

The Monarch Chesterfield Levee provides an exceptional trail riding experience for over 250 miles.

RIPARIAN TRAIL Lydia Hill Drive & Veterans Place Drive The Riparian Trail is a half mile long and is part of a five-phase plan to construct a pedestrian/bike path, which will begin near the Chesterfield Family Aquatic Center and will extend to Old Chesterfield Road. RAILROAD PARK 17410 Edison Avenue This 33-acre park is currently undeveloped, and will ultimately be used for passive recreation opportunities. Currently there is a grass-mowed trail there for use that is close to a mile in length just off the Monarch Levee Trail.

Reservation permits for the use of the Chesterfield Family Aquatic Center and the Central Park Pavilion can be obtained at City Hall, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. CHESTERFIELD AMPHITHEATER The amphitheater can host a variety of theatrical, musical, educational, corporate events and is perfect for hosting a wedding. With 304 fixed seats and the ability to hold around 4,000 overall, as well as the 4,200 square foot performance platform, the amphitheater is equipped to host large or small events.

Set within Central Park, the Chesterfield Amphitheater is an intimate and stylish venue that combines state-of-the-art audio technology and modern architecture with community charm.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION All registrations are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. See specific program descriptions for registration details and class minimums and maximums. Registrations can be made in person by visiting City Hall. Online registration is available for most programs and to renew season pool passes. CANCELLATION & REFUND POLICIES Twenty-five percent (25%) of the registration fee will be charged to cover administrative and processing costs. The city will process all refunds according to the bill-paying schedule.

There will be no cash refunds. No refunds will be made except: • When a class/program/special event is canceled or closed by the Parks, Recreation & Arts Department due to low enrollment or other circumstances. In this case, the city will provide a 100% refund.

• When participants become ill (you must present a doctor’s statement) and notify the Parks, Recreation & Arts Department. However, you will be assessed the 25% administration fee and the remaining fee will be prorated as long as your cancellation does not reduce the participation level below the required minimum.

FEES & CHARGES POLICY The City of Chesterfield Parks, Recreation & Arts Department prides itself on providing a wide variety of recreational services to its citizens. The Department recognizes its responsibility to provide recreational opportunities that contribute toward the quality of life in Chesterfield. Realizing that tax dollars alone should not subsidize programs and facilities, fees and charges have been established to help offset existing costs. The prime objective of these guidelines is to develop a policy to efficiently direct our department toward a more consistent and effective method of establishing fees and charges while, at the same time, maintaining a high degree of equity for Chesterfield citizens.

CONCESSION WORKER The Concessions Worker supports the management in day-to-day operations of the concession facilities. In any given shift, the Concessions Worker may work at the cash registers, customer service windows, food preparation stations, and/or cart and satellite locations.

CONCESSION MANAGER The Concessions Manager supports upper management and supervises the day-to-day operations of the concession facilities. In any given shift, the Concession Manager may process the accounting of monies received for deposit, work at the cash registers and customer service windows, prepare and serve food, and/or work at the cart and satellite locations.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT - PART TIME The Administrative Assistant will process time sheets, perform related functions for seasonal Parks employees.

Records revenue collection batches, provide data entry functions as needed. Performs a variety of clerical work, including typing reports and making copies for the department, provides clerical assistance to the Department of Parks, Recreation and Arts. Handles overflow of department phone calls, gathers information on special projects, as needed. Perform other duties as assigned.
