WELCOME TO THE ART EXHIBIT AT CITY HALL!

The Art Exhibit at Chesterfield City Hall brings access and education to art within our community and features two-dimensional artwork, including mixed media, paintings and sculptures from established regional artists. Inside this guide, you will find artist bios and a brief synopsis of the art on display.

City Hall will feature several Art Exhibits throughout the year, showcasing different artists and a variety of art styles. This Art Exhibit will be open Monday through Friday, October through December, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding holidays.

Information about the artists will be available on each piece of artwork, in this guide and at the informational display in the lobby. Art is a lens through which I examine my physical world and my inner reality. It allows me to digest my memories and explore concepts of beauty, love, and pain that circulate through my life.

I view my process as holding a magnifying glass up to my subject. Though I don’t find many answers while creating art, my work is really about the search, the journey, and my ever-shifting perspective of reality; with the pursuit of making something beautiful.

MARK KORITZ

I do two types of paintings: free-flowing and structured abstract. Most of my work is structured, involving many angles, sometimes appearing to intersect but not actually touching each other. This often creates a three-dimensional or optical illusion effect. My canvases are non-directional so they can be hung however the buyer finds most appealing.

Working on canvas with layers of acrylic paints, my techniques include brush strokes, dabbing and overlays using a variety of brushes, pallet knives, wood sticks and various other tools which create unusual effects. I love experimenting with crushed foil, folded paper, plastic film, metal shavings and just about anything I find laying around!

Some of my work is planned and laid out on the canvas before I paint, but much of it is random with no preplanning. However, each piece is ever-changing as I progress. Frequently, I’ll put a canvas aside and come back to finish it later, often ending up with an entirely different result.

Most early mornings you can find me in my Chesterfield studio with music playing, a cup of hot coffee in one hand and a paint brush in the other. Nothing is better than that!

*All proceeds from the sale of my paintings are donated to the St. Louis Men’s Group Against Cancer, a non-profit organization that raises money for cancer research, care and prevention. The STLMGAC has given financial assistance to cancer-related organizations for 50 years.*
