WELCOME TO THE ART EXHIBIT AT CITY HALL! The Art Exhibit at Chesterfield City Hall brings access and education to art within our community and features two-dimensional artwork, including mixed media, paintings and sculptures from established regional artist Laura Lloyd. Inside this guide, you will find artist bios, and a brief synopsis of the art on display. City Hall will feature several Art Exhibits throughout the year, showcasing different artists and a variety of art styles. This Art Exhibit will be open Monday through Friday, January through March, from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, excluding holidays. Information about the artists will be available on each piece of artwork, in this guide and at the informational display in the lobby. DANIEL FISHBACK This exhibit is a collection of works that have been painted both recently and some from a few years ago. Most of these pieces were painted from photos I took on painting trips or vacations. The older paintings were done in a more realistic manner. As my style keeps evolving I am doing more interpretation, of the subject matter, rather than copying what is in front of me. This allows me to express the emotional impact the subjects have on me and to record my personal impressions of the scenes. While primarily self-taught, in 2014 I began studying with some nationally acclaimed artists, like Phil Starke, Roger Dale Brown, Scott Christensen, Shawn Cornell, John Lasater, and CW Mundy, I have studied online for about 3 and 1/2 years with Phil Starke and for about 6 months with Camille Przewodek. My paintings are in corporate and private collections in the United States and abroad. I have earned numerous awards and have had several solo shows. Commission requests are considered. Member of: Art Saint Louis, Heartland Art Club, Missouri Valley Impressionist Society, and Oil Painters of America. BETH GOYER I am a St. Louis County native. I graduated from Webster Groves School District and went on to study at Meramec Community College, University of Missouri- Columbia (B.S. Secondary Art Education), and got my master’s degree at Webster University. I had some amazing teachers in my career as a student, many of them inspiring me to go on to teach art. I taught Jr. High/ Middle School for 29 years for the Pattonville School District where I used a lot of what I had learned from my teachers over the years and passed those lessons on in new ways to my students. It’s always rewarding when a former student of mine tells me that I inspired them to go into the art field or teaching art. Traveling and seeing new cultures, landscapes, and art collections are a continuous joy and treat for my eyes and soul. Long trips to Europe and the U.S. or short trips around Missouri and Illinois are equally pleasing. It’s been hard during the Covid-19 pandemic to not travel. I retired in the spring of 2002 and returned to Meramec to study Photoshop and other digital programs. Learning these programs has helped me to achieve my artistic goals. The teachers I’ve studied with there are amazing and inspiring. It’s a great to have new directions to go with my interests. My first and long-time teacher was Myrtle Goyer, my grandmother. She was painting until she was 96 years old. She was very talented and way ahead of her times in many ways. She was taken out of 6th grade and sent to art school. By the time she was 14, she was teaching married ladies how to draw and paint in her studio. In 1904 she had several of her handpainted china pieces on display in the Palace of Varied Arts at the St. Louis World’s Fair. Some of my photographic influences include Alfred Stieglitz, Ansel Adams, Dorothea Lange, Margaret Bourke White among others. My art is not limited to only photography. As an art teacher, I had to learn many different media to reach my students and keep them interested. Through my explorations, I tend to lean more for the realistic slant with a preference for oils, acrylics, and china painting, stain glass, photography, and printmaking. Digital format has opened a whole new creative world to me. Over the years I have displayed my work in many shows including one-person shows, group shows, and competitions. I’ve displayed locally and internationally and have pieces in some private collections around the United States. In 2005, I had one of my photos selected to be one of Top 50 Missouri Artists to have a piece of artwork on display at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia, MO. It was seen by members of the Missouri Arts Council who chose it to be on their 2006 Missouri Arts Council poster. 1500 copies were printed and distributed to the governor, members of Missouri Congress, judges, and other people connected to the MAC.
