JODIE MAURER

Plein air painting is an amazing experience for me. I was introduced to its possibilities at Principia College, where my art professors taught me not to be intimidated by a blank canvas but to engage with purpose and boldness in each stroke.

I paint plein air to capture a glimpse of God’s expression of beauty through thick layers of gestural paint in oils or fluid movements of watercolors with palette knives, brushes, and often large canvases. I hope these paintings, and the qualities they embody, embrace the viewer with beautiful glimpses of God as divine Love.

My body of work is diverse including landscapes and architecture from the West, Southwest, Midwest, and Northeast. I paint commissions, weddings, house portraits, and other subjects of interest, and I enjoy sharing my art process through painting demonstrations.

JODIE MAURER’S WORK

Jodie Maurer captures the beauty and movement of American landscapes in her gestural, thick, oil paintings. Raised in Overland Park, Kansas, she moved to St. Louis, Missouri to study art in 2005. Maurer received a B.A. in Studio Art in 2011 from Principia College in Elsah, Illinois. Since college, she has paired her painting career with avenues of service to the Christian Science movement.

During the 2020 construction of the new Peace Haven Association building in St. Louis, Maurer played a major role in curating the art for the halls, offices, and patient rooms. Christian Science artists’ work from across the country is now part of the Peace Haven collection. The art was selected to bless and beautify with uplifting views.

In June 2021, Maurer moved to Azusa, California where she currently works at Mankowski Homes, a well established retirement community for Christian Science nurses and practitioners. Maurer continues to paint stunning vistas wherever she finds them and recently began showing her art in Altadena and La Quinta, California.

Her paintings are shown in Beacon Art Gallery in Stone Harbor, New Jersey; As Time Goes By in La Quinta, California; Mary Falkingham Floral Designs in Altadena, California; C. Parker Gallery in Greenwich, Connecticut; and Academy Art and Frame in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Her works also are in a number of private and corporate collections. Enjoy her online gallery at www.JodieMaurer.com.
