The Art Exhibit at Chesterfield City Hall brings access and education to art within our community and features two-dimensional artwork, including mixed media, paintings and sculptures from established regional artist Laura Lloyd. JESSA FELTES - ABSTRACT BY JESSA Hi! I’m Jessa! A few of my working titles are wife, Mom, self-taught artist, project manager and small business owner. I’m a quirky individual. My pursuits include hanging with my family, writing stuff, painting stuff, watching stuff, and reading stuff. All while generally avoiding cooking and cleaning stuff. Oh and singing stuff, though I’m always offbeat. Now on to what you really want to know...philosophy. Prior to 2020, my creativity was channeled into writing. Now my primary creative outlet is painting. In writing, I created images with words. It’s been freeing to create stories with color because one of the most tantalizing things about abstract art is that what is seen or felt because of the work is different to everyone. Which means that absolutely anything in life can inspire creative expression both good and bad. In my work, I endeavor to bring a little beauty to both the good and the bad of life. I have pieces inspired by nature, memories and feelings. I take that inspiration, add some pouring medium and acrylic paint then use an arsenal of techniques. The end result is my work. As with all things in life be it art, storytelling or politics, perspective makes all the difference. I paint my story but, in the end, you see yours. BARBARA MARSHALL - TarArt Photography Color, texture, patterns, even personality make floral photography a popular subject, and one that I have enjoyed for years. While on Active Duty in the US Air Force, I took several photography courses, and continued art later in college. Once retired from a long banking and finance career, I invested in a franchise business in 2009 which gave me more time to spend on my photography, taking it from a hobby to a business. Few of us get to spend much time outdoors in our busy lives anymore. When we are outdoors, it’s often for a specific purpose like exercise or walking the dog. Few take the time to really appreciate nature. For me, nature photography is a kind of therapy, the pure enjoyment of being outdoors to breathe fresh air, listen to the songs of birds, soak up the sunlight on my face and to be able to capture the beauty of foliage and flowers.

The photos in this exhibit span a period of about ten years. I’ve experimented with several types of photography during that time; abstract, architectural, and still life, but always came back to natural photography. Lately I’ve added an abstract element by taking the objects out of their normal context with up-close inspections of flowers, plants, or trees. Sometimes the photos are not even immediately recognizable to the viewer. They are asked to inspect the structure, the interesting curl of a dahlia petal, the subtle color changes on the stem, interesting shapes in the bark of a tree, or the play of light on the back of the petals. My goal is to convey emotion in my photos; to have people slow down to enjoy nature in a more contemplative way.
