Each newsletter, we will highlight an employee who has successfully demonstrated one of the City's five core values. This edition focuses on the City's value of Integrity, where:

- We act ethically and fairly towards everyone and accomplish our goals with the highest standards of professional conduct

Integrity is standing up for what you believe is right, living by your highest values. It is being honest and sincere with others and yourself. You are integrous when your words and actions match.

The following employee was nominated by their colleagues for displaying integrity:

City of Chamblee Named A City of Civility by Georgia Municipal Association

The City of Chamblee has been designated as a City of Civility by the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA) Chamblee adopted a civility resolution in GMA’s new Embrace Civility program on April 18, 2023.

“We are proud to participate in GMA’s Embrace Civility Program,” said Mayor Brian Mock. “We are committed to engaging in respectful and healthy discourse that governs and promotes our City in the best interests of our residents.”

GMA, in partnership with the Association’s nonprofit organization, Georgia City Solutions, created the Embrace Civility Program to

equip Georgia’s cities with resources to create more civility in their meetings and among their residents and meeting attendees. Civil behavior and speech are critically important to a healthy, functional, and respectful society. For public service to be effective, there must be an atmosphere of respect and tolerance and a commitment to a healthy public exchange of diverse ideas and viewpoints.

To become a City of Civility, city councils are required to adopt a Civility Resolution and pledge to engage in civil behavior with each other as well as with residents and meeting attendees. Cities also have a civility pledge that can be published or recited at meetings. Learn more about the Embrace Civility program at www.gacities.com/civility

CITY

OF CHAMBLEE AWARDED FINANCIAL ACCOUNTABILITY AWARD FOR 8TH YEAR

The City of Chamblee has again received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA).

This is the eighth consecutive year the City has earned the award, which is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting. Its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management

“It is truly an honor to be recognized as a recipient of this award for the eighth year,” said Julie Pero, Chamblee Finance Director. “Our mission is to provide effective stewardship over public funds and assets and to provide financial management leadership for the city government. We’re proud to continue building on a tradition of transparency and communication with the public ”

Did You Know That..

Chamblee’s comprehensive annual financial report for the 2021 Fiscal Year was reviewed by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report

During World War I and World War II, Chamblee served as the site of U.S. military operations. During World War I, the U.S. operated Camp Gordon, home to 40,000 servicemen, from this very city. Over time, this influx of new people created a building boom in the town now known as Chamblee.

GO ABOVE AND BEYOND

THE CALL OF DUTY

The City of Chamblee applauds the life-saving efforts of Enrique Alfredo, Joe Kelley, and Andrew Rogers. On the morning of May 2, 2023, the three public works employees witnessed an accident on N. Peachtree Rd. and Savoy Dr. As fire trucks were heading north on N. Peachtree Road to respond to an emergency, two senior citizens were also traveling West on Savoy Drive and were in the direct path of the fire truck. Unfortunately, they hit the side of the fire truck at a high rate of speed causing severe damage to the truck. Our sanitation crew immediately recognized that there were injuries in the accident and jumped into action. They went to assist the elderly couple trapped in their smoky vehicle by cutting them out of their seatbelts. They also stayed at the scene with the injured firefighters as they waited for additional emergency responders to arrive. As the scene of the accident

cleared, our team went right back to completing their sanitation route for the day. The City of Chamblee thanks Enrique Alfredo, Joe Kelley, and Andrew Rogers for their quick thinking and for going above and beyond the call of duty
