Stay busy all summer long in this camp for kids entering grades 1-5. Spend your days playing games, making crafts, swimming, participating in special events, and going on an occasional field trip. REC UNITED SUMMER SOCCER

Continue playing soccer between seasons in this first-of-its-kind program for the metro area! Local parks and recreation departments have teamed up to bring you this new recreational league. Kids will meet once a week for seven weeks to continue building their soccer skills. Age appropriate skills and fundamentals will enhance the players’ abilities and understanding of the game. Games/practices are at 6 p.m. or 7 p.m. and are one hour in length. Shinguards are required, cleats are highly recommended. Volunteer coaches are needed. Register by 5/20.

The family pass previously was for two adults and up to four children. The new family pass will be for two people (one must be a parent or guardian) and will cost less. (See the blue box below.) SEASON PASS RULES

• You must present your pass to enter the pool.

• Passes are non-transferable and nonrefundable.

• Replacement cards may be purchased for $5 if cards are lost or stolen.

• Passes may be revoked for pool infractions and misuse with no refunds.

• Individuals who are immediate family members and who live at the same residence are eligible for a family pass.

• Nanny Pass must be purchased as part of a family pass. Nanny must be at least 16 years old. A special pass card will be issued. The pass can only be used when the nanny attends pool with the children. Designate “Nanny” on the Season Pass Form.

HOW TO REGISTER

Choose the session, then pick the level and time of the desired class from the charts on pages 56-60. Register using the corresponding number.

WITHDRAWALS, REFUNDS, TRANSFERS

Withdrawals and transfers will be honored if they are made by 5 p.m. the Wednesday before the first day of class. In all cases a $4 nonrefundable handling fee will be deducted from the refund. Once the Thursday before the first day of class arrives, refunds are not issued unless the program is cancelled by CR Parks & Recreation.

LOW/HIGH ENROLLMENT

Classes not making the minimum enrollment may be cancelled. Maximums are not guaranteed.

AGE REQUIREMENT

If your child turns the minimum age required within 30 days of the start of the program, they may be registered for that program unless an exception is noted otherwise.

IMPORTANT: If your child does not meet the age requirement, the computer will reject your registration and your child will not be enrolled. In this instance, you cannot register online. Call Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation, 319-286-5566.

WEATHER CANCELLATIONS

Classes are cancelled if dangerous weather conditions exist at the time of the lesson. Dangerous weather conditions are lightning and/or a severe storm. Call the appropriate pool for cancellations. Cancelled classes may be made up on available Fridays during the session. There is no guarantee that all classes will be made up.

COOL WEATHER

Lessons are held even on cool days. Swimmers might only be in the water for a limited amount of time or not at all if the weather is cold.

POOL CLOSINGS

If a pool is unexpectedly closed, lessons may be made up on Fridays during the session. There is no guarantee that all classes will be made up.

HEALTH REQUIREMENT

If your child is sick, he/she may not enter the water for two weeks after the last episode of diarrhea. Call 319-2865741 with questions about transfers and refunds.

LOCKER ROOMS

Locker rooms are open and available. Patrons are encouraged to come dressed to swim.

The purpose of this class is to expose the child to water adjustment skills. Front kicking, underwater exploration, and entering and exiting the water will be covered. One parent per child.

Group Lessons

Read each level carefully and compare the skills listed to those your child is currently able to perform. If you are certain that your child can complete the listed skills, then register them for the next higher level if he/she is the appropriate age.

Note: In most cases, it will take a child more than one session of lessons to pass the level.

LEVEL 1 - INTRODUCTION TO WATER SKILLS (3-6 yrs.)

Must be age 3 by the first day of class. Four year-olds who have passed a Level 1 class may go to Level 2. Level 1 skills may be done with assistance.

Noelridge Greenhouse

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

A permanent display of large tropical plants is housed at Noelridge Greenhouse, 4900 Council Street NE. The greenhouse is open to the public on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; Thursday from 7 a.m. to Noon; and for scheduled special events.

TOURS

The Friends of Noelridge offer regular FREE guided tours of the greenhouse, landscaped beds, and butterfly tent for groups of five or more. Tours for specific age groups, adults or children, will generally last a half hour. They are available Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, from 9-11:30 a.m, and Wednesdays, from 1-2:30 p.m. To register for a tour, email l.farmer@cedar-rapids.org. Please include number attending, general age, and preferred date. For special requests, call 319-538-2731.

GREENHOUSE VOLUNTEERS

Off-Leash Dog Parks

The City of Cedar Rapids has two off-leash parks,Cheyenne Off-Leash Dog Park, 1650 Cedar Bend Lane SW, and K-9 Acres, 5200 Golf Course Road, Marion. An annual permit is required to use these parks.

The permit is valid January 1 - December 31. The 2024 Annual Permit fee is $38. Daily Passes, for those who want to try the park or are in the area for a short time, are $6. Passes may be purchased online at CRREC.org, by phone at 319.286.5566, or in person at the Parks and Recreation office at the City Services Center, 500 15th Avenue SW, or the Northwest Recreation Center, 1340 11th Street NW.

A dog tag is issued to those who purchase an annual permit. The color of the tag changes each year. Dog tags may be picked up at the City Services Center or Northwest Recreation Center. They may also be mailed for $2. Replacement tags cost $5.

A new 10-court pickleball complex in Jones Park features five courts on both sides of a central shade area with electrical outlets, a drinking fountain, and benches. Each court has a four-foot fence that separates it from the others. An eight-foot fence encloses five courts on each side. Access the courts via Fruitland Boulevard and not the road through Jones Park. Tennis courts at Noelridge, Ellis, and Bever Parks are also lined for pickleball.

Riverside Skatepark

A new, lighted skatepark is located in Riverside Park. Concrete obstacles in the park include a quarterpipe, radius wedge, Euro gap, kicker, radius launch, stairs, flat grind rail, raked grind rails, cantilevered manual pad, grind-out ledge, raked panned grind ledge, double raked panned grind ledge, panned grindout ledges, and slappy curb. Skatepark hours are 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. daily.

Splash Pads

Splash pads are ready to keep kids cool May 25 through September 2, 2024. They are located at Cedar Valley, Cleveland, Daniels, Greene Square, Hayes, Hidder, Jacolyn, Noelridge, Redmond, Time Check and Twin Pines Parks.

Trails

Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation maintains a variety of hard surface and crushed limestone recreational trails. If you make a complete tour of all the City trails and bikeways, you will travel over 100 miles.

Facility Rentals

BALL DIAMONDS

Diamonds may be reserved for two-hour time segments at $25 per time segment for unlined fields and $40 per time segment for lined fields. Exclusive use of the reserved area is insured with the fee.

The fully-accessible, 2100 square foot center overlooking Ellis Golf Course is available to rent for your next gathering.

JONES PARK LODGE

The lodge is fully ADA-accessible and can accommodate 95 people indoors with seating for 90 people, and has a serving area with large counters, microwave, sink, and refrigerator.

PARK PAVILIONS

Rent one of 25 pavilions in the City parks up to one year in advance of the intended use date (between May 4 and September 29, 2024). Sizes range from 7 to 40 tables. Rates vary based on size and location. Pavilions are rented for a single time period of 10 a.m. through 8 p.m.

POOLS

Reservations are taken year-round in person at the Northwest Recreation Center. A $100 deposit is required to rent the community room and gym. The deposit will be returned after the room is inspected at the end of the event.

I want to register; now what do I do?

REGISTRATION GUIDELINES

• Payment must be received to register for a program.

• The Department reserves the right to cancel or consolidate classes based on registration. A full refund is issued for all cancelled classes. Minimum and maximum class sizes are utilized.

• Waiting lists are established when classes are full. Additional classes may be offered if the minimum enrollment is reached and facility space is available.

• Fees will not be prorated.

• Registration is required prior to the start of class, unless noted.

• A youth waiver is required for every participant age 17 and under.

• A $4 nonrefundable handling charge will be deducted from the refund of each class when an enrollee withdraws prior to the first day of class. Once the first day of class arrives, refunds are not issued unless the class or program is cancelled by Parks & Recreation. Swimming exception: See page 54.

• If your child turns the minimum age required within 30 days of the start of the program, they may register for that program unless noted otherwise.

• Web registration is available up to the day prior to the start of the class or session or the registration deadline date.

The first time you use the system your user name is your household I.D. number and your password is the primary adult’s last name (up to twelve characters, not case sensitive).
