5-YEAR DERECHO MEDITATION (10+ yrs.)

Join us at Bever Park on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at 12:00pm for a special sound meditation led by Natalie Brown, honoring the five-year anniversary of the derecho. This relaxing experience aims to celebrate the resilience of our community. Participants will be surrounded by soothing sounds and vibrations from singing bowls, violin, gongs, and other instruments, to promote deep relaxation and calm. This session invites you to find peace and reflection, releasing worries and embracing tranquility amidst the beauty of Bever Park. We welcome you to take part in this meaningful gathering as we come together to foster continued healing in our community.

Join us for four days of coaching and one race in the sport of BMX. You will learn how to handle your bike through turns, ride safely with other riders and practice techniques for conquering the jumps on the track. The final day you will participate in a regular race at the track. Coaches will be on hand to assist throughout the whole event and available to answer any questions. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bike and helmet, but a limited number of loaner bikes and full-face helmets are available at no extra charge. SEASON PASS RULES

 You must present your pass to enter the pool.

 Passes are non-transferable and non-refundable.

 Replacement cards may be purchased for $5 if cards are lost or stolen.

 Passes may be revoked for pool infractions and misuse with no refunds.

 Individuals who are immediate family members and who live at the same residence are eligible for a family pass.

 Nanny Pass must be purchased as part of a family pass. Nanny must be at least 16 years old. A special pass card will be issued. The pass can only be used when the nanny attends pool with the children.

You may be asked at any time for verification that your family meets eligibility requirements. Misrepresentation could result in loss of passes.

Pools and aquatic centers may open late or close early for the following reasons:

 Air temperature below 70 degrees (Lap Swim: air temperature below 60 degrees)

 20 people or less in the facility for a period of one hour (50 people or less at Noelridge and Cherry Hill)

 Lightning/severe storm in area

 Mechanical problems

 Poor water quality

 Special events/situations

 Darkness

 Maximum bather limit reached (When pool reaches capacity, patrons may be turned away and referred to another facility)

Pool Accessibility

Bender Pool is equipped with a hydraulic chair and sloping steps in addition to traditional pool ladders.

Locker Rooms

The pool has locker rooms equipped with showers, hair dryers, electrical outlets, and baby changing tables. Bring your own or rent one from the pool. (You will be required to leave your I.D. at the desk when you rent a lock. It will be returned when you return the lock.)

Personal locks must be removed daily. Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation is not responsible for locks or for lost or stolen items.

General Pool Rules

 Children ages 5 and under must be supervised by an adult within arm’s length.

 Youth ages 6-10 must be supervised by an adult or responsible person at least age 14.

 Children’s swimsuits with permanent built-in floats are permitted but not recommended. Noodles, and suits with removable floats are not permitted. Coast guard approved Lifejackets are allowed.

 Actual swim attire is required. Fibers from street clothing damage the pool filter. (Sorry, no basketball shorts.)

Fun for all and affordable! Food is not allowed. Water and float toys may be used, crowd permitting.

LAP SWIM

(15+ yrs.)

Take time for yourself. This is a good time for water walking. The baby pool is closed.

ADULT 18+ SWIM

Open swim for ages 18 or over.

WATER EXERCISE (15+ yrs.)

This instructor-led class concentrates on stretching, strengthening, flexibility and range of motion exercises. Drop-in program, preregistration is not required. Current season pass or punch pass may be used.

 Swim diapers are required for children who are not toilet trained. They are available from the pool cashier for $1.

Swim Lesson Information

WHEN TO REGISTER

Advanced registration is required. No registrations are accepted on the first day of a session. Limited registration may be available as the session start date approaches. Registration cutoff at 11:59 p.m. the Saturday before the session begins.

HOW TO REGISTER

Choose the session, then pick the level and time of the desired class from the charts on pages 56-59. Register using the corresponding number.

Before the Pools Open:

Once the Pools are Open:

• Same as above OR

• Walk in to any pool whenever they are open

WITHDRAWALS, REFUNDS, TRANSFERS

Withdrawals and transfers will be honored if they are made by 5 p.m. the Wednesday before the first day of class. In all cases a $4 nonrefundable handling fee will be deducted from the refund. Once the Thursday before the first day of class arrives, refunds are not issued unless the program is cancelled by CR Parks & Recreation.

LOW/HIGH ENROLLMENT

Classes not making the minimum enrollment may be cancelled. Maximums are not guaranteed.

AGE REQUIREMENT

If your child turns the minimum age required within 30 days of the start of the program, they may be registered for that program unless an exception is noted otherwise.

HEALTH REQUIREMENT

If your child is sick, he/she may not enter the water for two weeks after the last episode of diarrhea. Call 319-286-5741 with questions about transfers and refunds.

Locker rooms are open and available. Patrons are encouraged to come dressed to swim.

COOL WEATHER

Lessons are held even on cool days. Swimmers might only be in the water for a limited amount of time or not at all if the weather is cold.

The purpose of this class is to expose the child to water adjustment skills. Front kicking, underwater exploration, and entering and exiting the water will be covered. One parent per child.

Group Lessons

Read each level carefully and compare the skills listed to those your child is currently able to perform. If you are certain that your child can complete the listed skills, then register them for the next higher level if he/she is the appropriate age.

Note: In most cases, it will take a child more than one session of lessons to pass the level.

Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation manages over 107 parks and trails on 4,000 acres of land. In addition to urban parks of all sizes, there are many acres reserved for park expansion and flood control. Use our online Parks Finder to locate a park and view its amenities at CityofCR.org/ParksFinder.

Noelridge Greenhouse

OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

A permanent display of large tropical plants is housed at Noelridge Greenhouse, 4900 Council Street NE. The greenhouse is open to the public on Monday-Friday from 7am-3:30pm, and for scheduled special events.

TOURS

The Friends of Noelridge offer guided tours of the greenhouse, landscaped beds, and butterfly tent for groups of five or more. Tours will last about one hour. To register for a tour, email l.farmer@cedar-rapids.org Please include number attending, general age, and preferred date. For special requests, call 319-286-5762. Tours are $3/person

Pickleball Courts

A new 10-court pickleball complex in Jones Park features five courts on both sides of a central shade area with electrical outlets, a drinking fountain, and benches. Each court has a four-foot fence that separates it from the others. An eight-foot fence encloses five courts on each side. Access the courts via Fruitland Boulevard and not the road through Jones Park. Tennis courts at Noelridge, Ellis, and Bever Parks are also lined for pickleball.

Riverside Skatepark

A new, lighted skatepark is located in Riverside Park. Concrete obstacles in the park include a quarterpipe, radius wedge, Euro gap, kicker, radius launch, stairs, flat grind rail, raked grind rails, cantilevered manual pad, grind-out ledge, raked panned grind ledge, double raked panned grind ledge, panned grindout ledges, and slappy curb. Skatepark hours are from 6 a.m. - 10 p.m. daily.

Splash Pads

Splash pads are ready to keep kids cool May 24 through September 2, 2025. They are located at Cedar Valley, Cleveland, Daniels, Greene Square, Hayes, Hidder, Jacolyn, Noelridge, Redmond, Time Check and Twin Pines Parks.

Trails

Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation maintains a variety of hard surface and crushed limestone recreational trails. If you make a complete tour of all the City trails and bikeways, you will travel over 100 miles.

Off-Leash Dog Parks

The City of Cedar Rapids has three offleash parks. Cheyenne Off-Leash Dog Park is located on Cedar Bend Lane SW, off Old River Road. The 12th Avenue Dog Park is located at the corner of 12th Avenue SE and 4th Street, near the New Bohemia commercial district. K9 Acres is located north of Gardner Golf Course at 5200 Golf Course Road, Marion. An annual permit is required to use these parks. The permit is valid January 1 - December 31. The 2025 Annual Permit fee is $42. Daily Passes, for those who want to try the park or are in the area for a short time, are $6. Passes may be purchased online at CRREC.org, by phone at 319.286.5566, or in person at the Parks and Recreation office at the City Services Center, 500 15th Avenue SW, or the Northwest Recreation Center, 1340 11th Street NW.

A dog tag is issued to those who purchase an annual permit. The color of the tag changes each year. Dog tags may be picked up at the City Services Center or Northwest Recreation Center. They may also be mailed for $2. Replacement tags cost $5.

BALL DIAMONDS

Diamonds may be reserved for two-hour time segments at $25 per time segment for unlined fields and $40 per time segment for lined fields. Exclusive use of the reserved area is insured with the fee.

The fully-accessible, 2100 square foot center overlooking Ellis Golf Course is available to rent for your next gathering.

JONES PARK LODGE

The lodge is fully ADA-accessible and can accommodate 95 people indoors with seating for 90 people, and has a serving area with large counters, microwave, sink, and refrigerator.

PARK PAVILIONS

Rent one of 25 pavilions in the City parks up to one year in advance. Sizes range from 7 to 40 tables. Rates vary based on size and location. Pavilions are rented for a single time period of 10 am-8 pm

POOLS

Rent Bever, Ellis, or Jones Pool. Rates start at $386. Cherry Hill Aquatic Center is available for rental to large groups for two hour time blocks by special arrangement only.

How to Read Our Course Information

*NEW* SANTA’S WORKSHOP (ALL AGES)

Bring your little “elves” (ages 0-10) to Ushers Ferry to get their picture taken with Santa. Build a toy, and bake and decorate cookies to take home. Drink some hot cocoa. Advance registration is required for the workshop.

Registration Guidelines

• Payment must be received to register for a program.

• The Department reserves the right to cancel or consolidate classes based on registration. A full refund is issued for all cancelled classes. Minimum and maximum class sizes are utilized.

• Waiting lists are established when classes are full. Additional classes may be offered if the minimum enrollment is reached and facility space is available.

• Fees will not be prorated.

• Registration is required prior to the start of class, unless noted.

• A youth waiver is required for every participant under age 17.

• A $4 non-refundable handling charge will be deducted from the refund of each class when an enrollee withdraws prior to the first day of class. Once the first day of class arrives, refunds are not issued unless the class or program is cancelled by Parks & Recreation. Swimming exception: See page 54.

• If your child turns the minimum age required within 30 days of the start of the program, they may register for that program unless noted otherwise.

The first time you use the system your username is your household I.D. number and your password is the primary adult’s last name (up to twelve characters, not case sensitive). Online registration is processed 24 hours a day with credit card payment up to the day prior to the start of the class or session or the registration deadline date.
