So Many Ways to
Explore, Learn & Play!
Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation manages a park system that reaches every corner of the city. With nearly 100 parks, at least 50 playgrounds for all ages and abilities, three off-leash dog parks with a fourth opening soon, and over 4,100 acres of parkland, there are countless ways to get outside and stay active. From trails and splash pads to athletic fields, gardens, disc golf courses, and picnic areas, the system supports play in many forms.
Gift an
Experience to Remember
More than 130 miles of trails and bikeways connect parks, neighborhoods, and destinations across Cedar Rapids, with even more options throughout the metro area. The system also includes community favorites like Noelridge Park Greenhouse and Flower Gardens, Old MacDonald’s Farm, Ushers Ferry Historic Village, and the Tait Cummins and Tuma sports complexes. With parks open daily from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. May through October, and seasonal amenities available May through September, there’s always a place to explore, connect, and play.

Located in Seminole Valley, Ushers Ferry Historic Village brings Cedar Rapids history to life through nine ADA-accessible buildings from 1890–1910. Explore a small Iowa town setting and see how people lived, worked, and gathered. STEP-ON GUIDED TOURS MAY-OCTOBER (18+ YRS.)
A DAY IN THE ONE-ROOM SCHOOL MAY-OCTOBER (GRADES 3-5, UP TO 60 STUDENTS)
LIVE, LEARN & PLAY TOUR MAY–OCTOBER (GRADES K-2, 90 MIN)
Bring your senior group or assisted living residents for a unique, accessible experience at Ushers Ferry Historic Village. Our step-on guided tour allows your group to stay comfortably seated on your own bus while a costumed guide “steps on” to share stories and history as you drive through the village. After the drivethrough tour, your group may choose to visit one of our fully accessible buildings and enjoy a short Q&A with the guide.
Step back in time as your class becomes students at Cherry Valley School in an interactive role-playing experience. Before the visit, students receive the names and character descriptions of the historical students they will portray. During the 90-minute program, students experience a typical day in a one-room school alongside an Ushers Ferry guide. Throughout the session, the teacher/interpreter weaves local history and educational information into the experience.
This fun, fast-paced tour for up to 75 students gives participants a chance to explore what life was like more than 100 years ago. Students will spend time in the one-room school, play popular parlor games alongside teachers and chaperones (see teacher resources below), and visit either the Village business district or historic homes with an Ushers Ferry guide.
