Festival at the Switchyard
The annual Festival honors the role that rail has played in Carrollton’s past and its continuing importance today and in the future.
The Historic Downtown Square was once the hub of a dusty little settlement of pioneers who came to claim their parcel of the Peters Colony land. The gazebo now sits on the site of the former well that provided the Town’s water.
Some of the buildings around the Square date back to the late 1800s, built of brick made in Carrollton — an industry made possible by the arrival of the railroad.
Today, three active train lines still cross paths in the switchyard just north of the Festival site near the historic train depot.

Rick Springfield
Grammy-award winning talent powerhouse Rick Springfield began his solo music career in 1972. His album Beginnings was the first of seven to achieve Top 40 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. In 1981, Springfield played the role of Dr. Noah Drake in the daytime soap opera “General Hospital,” shortly after recording Working Class Dog. That album produced the iconic single “Jessie’s Girl,” which peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and remained there for two weeks, earning him a Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance. He continued releasing music throughout the 1980s, including singles “Don’t Talk to Strangers” and “Love Somebody.” Springfield’s impressive longevity shines through his high energy performances as he plays for audiences across the globe, and now, that energy will light up the night in Downtown Carrollton.
Spin Doctors
Before Rick rocks onto the stage, soak up pure ‘90s nostalgia with the alt rock, Grammy-nominated, beanie-wearing Spin Doctors. The group assembled in New York City in the late 1980s and released a debut studio album, Pocket Full of Kryptonite, in 1991. Radio stations and MTV picked up singles “Two Princes” and “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong,” skyrocketing the band’s popularity through the catchy tunes and unforgettable music videos playing across the airwaves. Pocket Full of Kryptonite went triple platinum and “Two Princes” earned the band a Grammy nomination for Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group. In April 2025, Spin Doctors put out a seventh studio album, Face Full of Cake, showing a revitalized group and the warm, funky sound fans have always loved.
Sixpence None the Richer
Lead singer Leigh Nash and guitarist Matt Slocum created the indie pop rock band Sixpence None the Richer in New Braunfels in 1992. In 1997, the group released a self-titled album, including the single “Kiss Me,” which peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and still resonates today with more than one billion streams on Spotify. The ballad was irresistible to listeners across the U.S., Australia, Canada, and the U.K. and was nominated for a Grammy. The band is also known for successful covers of pop favorites “There She Goes” by the La’s and “Don’t Dream It’s Over” by Crowded House. In 2024, Sixpence None the Richer reunited to release a new EP, Rosemary Hill, capturing a fresh wave of fans and proving the band’s timeless sound still hits all the right notes with a whole new generation.
Alien Ant Farm
Founded in 1996 in Riverside, California, Alien Ant Farm’s in-your-face tracks are influenced by grunge, metal, and punk. The band released a platinumcertified second album ANThology in 2001, bringing a punk rock edge to cover Michael Jackson’s 1987 hit “Smooth Criminal.” The single peaked at number one on the Billboard Alternative songs chart and appeared in the 2001 comedy “American Pie 2.” Following the success of ANThology, Alien Ant Farm continued to release music such as “Movies,” and tour for fans worldwide.
