DearNeighbors&Friends:

A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR

Wehavebegunthetransitionfromoursummereventsandactivitiesintoourfall ones. As we start that transition into fall, the Carlsbad Water Park will close for the season on Labor Day, September 2nd. Carlsbad continues to stay busy with activities and milestones that genuinely reflectthespiritofourcommunity.Forinstance,UnitedWayofEddyCountywill host its seventh annual Day of Caring on September 12, 2024. Local businesses and industry partners will pick up a paintbrush, shovel, or gloves and make a difference by assisting an area nonprofit with completing various projects. This will be the first time that the 2024 Day of Caring will be countywide with ten nonprofit agencies from Artesia and Carlsbad – Haven of Hope, Oasis Women’s Services, SNMCAC, CASA, the Carlsbad Battered Families Shelter, CARC, Carlsbad MainStreet, Affirming Hearts Victim Services, LifeHouse and the UnitedWayofEddyCounty.

This event was missed during the challenging days of the COVID-19 pandemic. I want to congratulate Director Kyle Marksteiner and his hardworking staff at United Way for making this possible after a five-year hiatus. I want to thank all the event sponsors. The title sponsors Mewbourne Oil Company and Devon Energy.AswellasP&REnterprises,theT-shirtsponsor.Iwouldalsoliketothank ConocoPhillips, Chevron, ExxonMobil, Intrepid, Permian Resources, SIMCO, Flogistix, andtheBoys&GirlsClubofCarlsbad, whowillparticipate.

I’m excited to announce that the upcoming Energy Summit will be held on October 17th. This summit will bring together industry leaders, experts, and stakeholders to discuss the future of energy in our region and celebrate the 100 yearsofoilandgasinNewMexico.

As a city deeply connected to energy production, this event will provide invaluable insights into sustainable practices and innovative technologies that willshapeourfuture.

We are also happy to announce that we are taking submissions for the Spirit of the Workforce awards for this year’s energy summit. We want to honor the hardworking and dedicated men and women who maintain America’s energy independence daily. We invite you to nominate individuals representing the Spirit of the Workforce. Nominees should be dedicated employees in the Carlsbad area who emphasize teamwork and safety, but we’re also looking for the type of folks who come home with dirty work boots. Bob Forrest Youth Sports Complex

As someone born and raised in Carlsbad, I’ve always been deeply connected to this community. After spending 27 years teaching and coaching within Carlsbad Municipal Schools, I retired and had the incredible opportunity to become the Bob Forrest Youth Sports Complex (BFYSC) supervisor. This role has allowed me to continue my passion for working with youth and contributing toourcommunity'swell-being.

The BFYSC is more than just a sports complex; it’s a place where the youth of Carlsbad can grow, learn, and stay active in a safe environment. Our top priority is to maintain this facility as the premier sports complex in the area, ensuringthatitmeetstheneedsofourlocalyouth.Weworkcloselywithleague officials, tournament directors, and coaches to ensure the complex effectively servesitspurpose.

The complex is equipped with 13 baseball fields, 7 softball fields, 5 soccer/football fields, 3 playgrounds, a splash pad, and 3 concession stands. These amenities provide endless opportunities for our youth to engage in various physical activities, which are essential for their health, fitness, and overallwell-being.

We’re gearing up for an exciting season with flag football, soccer, and softball in full swing this fall. We’ll also host several major events, including Little League ShorthornBaseball,Little

Little League National Softball and Under Armour Flag Football tournaments. We’re also proud to support our local schools with about 15 field trips planned, wherestudentswillenjoyourplaygrounds, fields, andsplashpad.

Managing such a dynamic facility comes with its challenges, especially when accommodating all the sports teams throughout the year. However, the positive impact the BFYSC has on our community makeseverychallengeworthwhile.

The Bob Forrest Youth Sports Complex continues to be a cornerstone of our community, fostering a healthy, active lifestyle for our youth and providing a space where families can come together and enjoy sports and recreation. We’re committed to keeping this complex a safe andwelcomingplaceforall.

Sincerely,
