CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

The Blue Springs Parks & Recreation Department strives to provide the highest quality recreational activities possible. It is the department’s desire that each customer be satisfied with the recreational activities in which they participate. If a customer is not satisfied, corrective efforts will be made. Each specific request or inquiry is reviewed by staff for its own individual circumstances.

If necessary, we can arrange for one of the following to occur (full or prorated): repeat the activity at no charge, receive credit that can be applied to any other activity at no charge or receive a refund. Requests for refunds and transfers for departmental programs may be subject to a $5 transfer and $7 refund administrative processing charge. Request for refunds must be made within two weeks following a particular program.

The Parks & Recreation Department Office must be notified by the end of the following business day in order to request a refund or transfer of ball field rentals that are rained out. If a program is canceled or session dates and/or times are altered by the Parks & Recreation Department, we will be happy to process a full refund. For ticket sales involving trips or theme park attractions, all sales are final.

MINI MOTOR MADNESS

Little ones, start your engines! Blue Springs Parks & Recreation is turning Keystone Park into a racetrack on Saturday, May 6 to host a power wheel race.

Racers will navigate a course through the park. Bring your own personal Power Wheels and compete in a friendly race! Registration deadline is April 22.

Bring your rod, reel, tackle box and bait and come fish at Rotary Lake at the annual Kids’ Fishing Derby for your chance to win prizes. Each participant will receive a hot dog, chips and drink. Prizes provided by the Sunset Optimist Club of Blue Springs.

We will have outdoor education, fishing, yoga, archery, kayaking and more.

NAILED IT

Our holiday bakeoff competition continues in the New Year! Make goodies for Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day and Easter.

We will announce the baked item to be made on the first of each month. Photos of the completed item will be turned into Kelly Finke at kfinke@bluespringsgov.com no later than 8 a.m. on the third Friday of each month.

Photos will be posted on our Facebook page to be voted on by receiving “Likes”. The compositions with the most likes will be awarded a prize.

PUZZLE PALOOZA

January 19

Vesper Hall 6-8:30 p.m. All Ages $20/Four-person team

Do you pine to place pieces of a puzzle in their permanent place? Then come placate your passion at Puzzle Palooza.

Teams of four will receive the exact same 500-piece puzzle. Teams will have two hours to complete the puzzle. The first team to finish wins!

BUT, that’s not all, teams have the choice to purchase a challenge to instill on other teams. This may slow the other team down giving the team who purchased the challenge an upper hand.

PAINT BY NUMBER

The Blue Springs Summer Day Camp mission is to help each camper discover new skills while building a community that values each child.

Activities include healthy risk-taking and leadership challenges to help each person grow as an individual while aiming to build confidence and self-respect. Friendships at camp are based on honesty and a deep sense of caring.

We strive to provide individual attention and unique experiences that campers will remember for the rest of their lives. Campers can enjoy field trips, guest speakers, pool days, structured gym games, crafts and much more!

DEEP STRETCH & RESTORE

This six-week program addresses the importance of deep stretching to help people of all levels and ages move and feel better with less pain. The focus of this class is on slowing down, connecting with the breath and experiencing deep release in the joints, ligaments and connective tissues using a variety of gentle yoga-inspired poses featuring 2-5 minute holds per pose.

This is a great class for athletes of all levels/sports, as well as “desk job types” with little to no exercise experience who want to recover from injuries, reduce joint/back pain, muscle tightness and stress, as well as improve flexibility, mobility, circulation, performance and mental focus/well-being.

This five-week program teaches basic drills and skills in a controlled environment with experienced coaches. The program is catered towards those will little to no volleyball experience looking to see if it is something they may be interested in pursuing in the future.

The age groups are split 4th-5th grade and 6th-7th grade. Each participant will receive a program shirt. Registration deadline is March 20.

Calling all Pickleballers! Join us for this eight-week mixed doubles pickleball league played at Ward Park and the Fieldhouse.

Vesper Hall is a nationally accredited Community Center that offers a variety of activities for individuals ages 50 and older who like to stay social, healthy and active.

WEEKLY NUTRITIONAL LUNCH

Served Monday-Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. A $3.50 donation is suggested for ages 60 and older and for those who are disabled. A fee of $5.75 is required for age 59 and younger.

Reservations must be made at least one day prior to guarantee a meal. Cancellations must be made prior to day of reservation.

HOME-DELIVERED MEALS

Available for homebound individuals in Blue Springs and Lake Tapawingo who are 60 years and older or disabled persons age 18-59. Meals are delivered Monday-Friday, and a $3.50 donation is suggested. Contact Vesper Hall to receive more information.

Meal programs are co-sponsored by Mid-America Regional Council. Federal funds assist in the cost of meal planning. preparation and delivery.

The City of Blue Springs offers transportation services for residents 60 years of age and older and adults with disabilities ages 18-59. The City contracts with OATS Transportation Services for medical and/or shopping trips within Blue Springs. Door-to-door pick up to grocery stores, shops and appointments within Blue Springs city limits: Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday - $3 - one-way trips, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Call 816-380-7433 to schedule.
