CUSTOMER SATISFACTION Blue Springs Parks & Recreation strives to provide the highest quality recreational activities possible. It is the department’s desire that each customer be satisfied with the recreational activities in which they participate. If a customer is not satisfied, corrective efforts will be made to improve the experience. Each specific request or inquiry is reviewed by staff for its own individual circumstances. If necessary, we can arrange for one of the following to occur (full or prorated): repeat the activity at no charge, receive credit that can be applied to any other activity at no charge or receive a refund. Requests for refunds and transfers for departmental programs may be subject to a $5 transfer and $7 refund administrative processing charge. Requests for refunds must be made within two weeks following a particular program. Blue Spring Parks & Recreation must be notified by the end of the following business day in order to request a refund or transfer of ball field rentals that are rained out. If a program is canceled or session dates and/or times are altered by Blue Springs Parks & Recreation, we will be happy to process a full refund. For ticket sales involving trips or theme park attractions, all sales are final.

CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS In 2017, Blue Springs residents approved a 1/2- cent sales tax for five years which has been a catalyst to the improvements made throughout the community to our parks. With the end of the original five-year park sales tax in 2022, the department went back to voters for approval to extend the 1/2 cent sales tax with no sunset. The voters of Blue Springs passed the extension of the park sales tax with an overwhelming positive response, an 80 percent YES vote. The renewal of the park sales tax allows annual funding to be allocated to maintain current facilities including playgrounds, shelters, trails, athletic fields, tennis courts, roads, restrooms and other facilities. This renewal also allowed for the construction of Blue Surf Bay Waterpark. The sales tax will provide funding for the development and construction of the new Southwest Park, located along the north side of Wyatt Road and west of 7 Highway. The department’s intention is not just to build new facilities, but also ensure maintenance needs are met.

Our volunteer coaches make every session a joy, teaching teamwork and basic skills through exciting activities and friendly matches. It’s not just about scoring goals; it’s about scoring big smiles.
Little All-Stars Basketball – where tiny dribblers take their first steps towards a love of the game – begins in January! Experience the exciting world of youth volleyball during Legends’ Intro to Volleyball Series! This dynamic sport not only fosters physical fitness but also encourages teamwork, communication and strategic thinking. As young athletes step onto the court, they embark on a journey of skill development, camaraderie and personal growth. In this five-week introduction to youth volleyball, players will discover the fundamentals of the game, learn essential techniques and explore the joy of competition. Age groups are split between 4th-5th grade and 6th-7th grade. Registration deadline is March 19.

SAFE SITTER Safe Sitter provides instructional classes to prepare students in grades 6-9 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. The instructor-led class is filled with fun games and role-playing exercises. Students will learn: Safety Skills, Child Care, Skills First Aid & Rescue Skills including child and infant CPR training, as well as Life and Business Skills.

NO SEW CLUB Youth are welcome to join No Sew Club, to create a no-sew blanket. This beginner course teaches the art of making a blanket and pillow using only scissors, a ruler and fabric! BLUE SURF BAY WATERPARK In just a few short months, Blue Surf Bay Waterpark will open to the public, offering a first-class indoor and outdoor aquatics experience. Amenities include a Surf Simulator, Indoor Lap Pool that includes a NinjaCross Course, Wave Ball Pool, Lazy River, Zero-Depth Entry Pool, Lifestyle/Wellness Pool, Indoor Splash Pad and a Water Slide Tower that include the country’s longest stand-up slide. As we near the grand opening of the waterpark, please keep an eye on the City of Blue Springs website over the next few
weeks for job postings, that include lifeguards, concession workers and attendants. In the meantime, if interested in working at Blue Surf Bay Waterpark, scan the qr code to fill out an employee interest form. Swim Lessons will be offered at Blue Surf Bay yearround. Sessions will begin in early June 2024. Be on the lookout for information this Spring for availability and when to sign up.
SURF SIMULATOR Come hang ten on the exciting Double Surf Simulator. This inflatable ride can accommodate all ages and abilities with its adjustable water flow settings.
SLIDE TOWER The slide tower packs in the fun with four unique water slides, all of which provide their own engaging experiences for the riders. Construction of the Water Tower at Blue Surf Bay Waterpark

The Slipstream (stand-up) slide will be the longest of its kind in the United States. This innovative slide engages the rider in a balanced delivery of thrill and skill. Riders coast down the slide on their heels in a gliding motion.
The indoor interactive spray pad features the latest spray innovations incorporated into a free form design with a slip-resistant safety flooring application. Near the center, there are a variety of spray features that create unique shapes and spray patterns.
LIFESTYLE/WELLNESS POOL The indoor Lifestyle/Wellness Pool offers a 115-foot-long current channel with underwater bench seating for relaxation and socialization. Swimmers will discover a Vortex for resistance walking.

HOME DELIVERED MEALS Are you looking for a fun and rewarding volunteer opportunity? Vesper Hall needs volunteer drivers to deliver meals to homebound seniors Monday, Thursday or Friday. Drivers will serve our senior clients who count on these meals to be delivered to their homes throughout the week.
If interested in becoming a volunteer, call 816-228-0181 or stop by Vesper Hall to fill out a volunteer form. All routes are located within the Blue Springs city limits, and time commitment is just 1-1½ hour. You must have a valid driver’s license and insurance and pass a background check. Mileage is reimbursable.
NEED MEALS DELIVERED? Available for homebound individuals in Blue Springs and Lake Tapawingo who are 60 years and older or disabled persons age 18-59.
