CURRENT EVENTS CRAFTING WITH RECYCLABLES: Volunteer Rina Sant will have ongoing, fun craft classes on Fridays, April 4th & 18that 10a.m. Bring your creativity.

ANOKA COUNTY CRIBBAGE TOURNAMENT: Friday, April 11th at Coon Rapids Senior Services. Advanced registration and payment are required.

Space is limited. Must be an Anoka County Senior Center participant to play in the tournament. Call 763-767-6473 to inquire about openings in this event.

WII BOWLING TOURNAMENT VS. HAM LAKE: We will host this event on Tuesday, April 15th at 8:45a.m. Come cheer us on!

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION: Join us on Tuesday, April 22nd at 11a.m. for lively piano music by Nellie Spexet, to honor our dining volunteers!

MOVIE OF THE MONTH: “Philomena”-starring Judy Dench as she replays her life before being sent to a convent in 1952. Movie to be shown at 1p.m. on Thursday, April 17th with a snack break at intermission.

PROPERTY TAX & RENT CREDIT ASSISTANCE: No appointments taken, this service is a first come, first served event being held on Tuesday, April 29th from 8:30-noon, and is sponsored by your local county commissioners in coordination with Anoka County R.S.V.P. BIRTHDAY PARTY: On Wednesday, April 30th, enjoy entertainment by country artist, Kevin Wegman at 11 am followed by a beef pot roast meal at noon, and prize bingo at 1 pm, sponsored by Home Instead Senior Care.

SENIOR SAFETY AND WELLNESS FAIR: Limited to the first 80 registrants, this popular annual event is filling fast and will be held on Thursday, May 1st from 8:30a.m.-3:00p.m. at SBM Fires Station #3, 11920 Ulysses St. N.E., Blaine, MN 55434. Expect great speakers on a variety of safety and wellness topics, a catered luncheon, coffee and refreshments throughout the day and a vendor resource fair. Registration forms are available at the Senior Center.

UPCOMING EVENTS TRAVEL SHOW: Tourco Tours will present a travel show on the July trips

Winnipeg Polar Bear Exhibition and The Pacific Northwest, on Monday, May 5th at 11a.m. at the Senior Center. Please R.S.V.P. your attendance.

LADIES LUNCHEON: We have new entertainment by a four piece band called The Banjo Boys, in store for you as we honor the ladies on Thursday, May 8th at 11:00a.m.

80 & OVER PARTY: Mark your calendars for Wednesday, May 21st as we enjoy lively music by Joe Nayduciak at 11a.m. and honor those turning 80 or better!

——————————————————————————————————METRO PAINT-A-THON: Free to eligible homeowners in Washington, Anoka, Carver, Dakota, Hennepin, Ramsey & Scott Counties. This program helps eligible homeowners with exterior home painting. For an application visit the website at www.paintathon.gmcc.org/homeapp.php or contact Metro Paint-A-Thon at 612276-1579. Application deadline is April 4th.

ONGOING SERVICES/PROGRAMS LEGAL SERVICE Anoka County legal service is available to residents of Anoka County age 60 and older by appointment on the first Tuesday of the month beginning at 11:15 am. Call the center for your appointment. Next date: Tues., April 1st.

FOOT CARE Friday, April 4th & 11th—times vary, call for an appointment. Fee is $20. Bring your own towel. If you need to cancel, please do so 24 hours in advance to avoid being charged.

ACCAP—SENIOR OUTREACH PROGRAM If you are age 60 or better and are looking for ways to stretch your dollar, check out these programs: *ENERGY ASSISTANCE: This program helps lower your utility costs and is based on your income. If your monthly income is $2,269 (gross) or less for one person or $2,967 or less for two people you may qualify! This program runs from October-May. *FOOD SUPPORT: The SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) is designed to help lower food/grocery costs. If your monthly income is $1,580 (gross) or less for one person or $2,133 or less for two people, you may qualify. Call Karen Pollesch, Senior Outreach Worker, at 763-783-4741 for information. She will come to your home or meet you at the Senior Center.

FAMILY CAREGIVER CONNECTION Support groups and group respite care are available in the Anoka County area. Call Jill Agyekum at 763-422-6960 for more information regarding the assessment process.

COMPUTER & TECHNOLOGY Wednesday, April 2nd at 10 am—Get answers to your computer and technology questions in an open forum question and answer session. Please call the Senior Center to reserve your spot.

T.O.P.S.: Looking to join a weight loss group? Take off Pounds Sensibly (T.O.P.S.) meets at the Senior Center on Tuesday nights at 5:30p.m. Check it out or call one of the leaders for information: Paulette-651-259-6241 or Cindy-651-310-9261.

VHS HOME MOVIE TRANSFER Drop off your VHS, 8mm or 16mm personal home movies at the Senior Center the 2nd Thursday of the month between 9-noon. Eric from North Metro TV will transfer them to a disc and return them to the Senior Center at a later date.

This service is also available for smaller tapes that fit into a VHS converter. You must provide your converter to transfer smaller tapes.

LOW VISION HELP Third Wednesday of the month from 9am-noon, Paul Mattson from the Minnesota State Services for the Blind will be available at the Senior Center.

Call Paul at 651-642-0846 to make an appointment. The next available date will be April 16th.

HEALTH INSURANCE COUNSELING Specified Monday afternoons at the Senior Center. Appointments are required. Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging staff will assist with the basics of Medicare and Medical Assistance, choosing a supplement and/or Part D plan, processing claims, assisting with forms and more. To schedule an appointment at the Senior Center, call 1-800-333-2433.

ACCAP CHORES & MORE Serving the 60 and over population, Chores and More is a program of the Anoka County Community Action program with funding from the cities of Anoka and Coon Rapids. This is your one stop shop for minor home repairs, housekeeping, seasonal chores.

ONGOING ACTIVITIES PLASTIC CANVAS and CRAFTING WITH RECYCLABLES: Fridays, April 4 & 18 at 10 am—Learn or share the art of plastic canvas, or join the craft class and make fun items out of recyclables. Spend time with friendly folks working on a craft project of your choice. Creativity welcome!

WOOD CARVING Tuesday evenings from 7-9 pm led by J.D. Hughes (763-434-4202) and/or on Wednesdays from 1-3:00 pm led by Wes Spadgenske. All levels are welcome.

The MN Woodcarver’s Association Metro Chapter meeting will be Sunday, April 13th at 2 pm and is open to everyone.

CLASSIC COUNTRY MUSIC Due to the Holiday, the jamboree has rescheduled to Sunday, April 27th from 1-4:30 pm, Join Gary Clark and musicians for a real taste of country music. Free will offering accepted.

QUILTING GROUP Monday, April 28th, 3-6 pm at the Senior Center.

ICE SKATING Wednesdays from 9:30-11 am at Fogerty Arena. FREE!! No skating when school is out, or over the holidays. Piped in music, coffee and refreshments are offered!

BOWLING Brunswick Zone in Blaine, 11351 Ulysses St. N.E., offers Senior Bowling Mondays and Fridays beginning at 1 pm for $1.25 per game.

Stops will be made and you will have an opportunity to step off the motor coach and visit with the Amish, no picture taking allowed! Registration due by May 19. DEFENSIVE DRIVING REFRESHER COURSE An instructor from the American Association of Retired Persons will conduct this 4-hour refresher course. This is a lecture-video class. Upon completion of the class, a certificate is issued and will be accepted by insurance companies for a discount on premiums for those 55 years of age and older. This certificate expires in 3 years and therefore, the course must be repeated in order to continue receiving the premium discount. You must have taken the 8-hour class in order to be eligible to take the 4-hour refresher course.

DATES: Thursdays: April 3rd-full, May 15th TIME: 10:15 am—3:00 pm (includes 1/2 hour lunch break).

FEE: $15 for AARP members $20 for non-AARP members Make checks payable to “AARP”. Bring your driver’s license and your AARP card (if applicable) to class. You will need to show and record your AARP member number (if applicable) on your form at class.

Lunch is available for a suggested donation: $4 ages 60 and up; $7 under age 60. You must register for lunch at least 3 days in advance, but can pay the day of the class. For lunch, make checks payable to “V.O.A.” Coffee and treats are provided for a suggested donation of $1.
