Aquatore Park Shelter

Disc golf is a fun activity for participants of nearly all ages and abilities. Simply throw a disc toward a designated basket and like golf, count one point for each throw. Lowest score wins.

Lochness Park’s disc golf course has three different tee boxes suitable for beginner, intermediate and advanced players. Disc rental is available through the parks and recreation office. Call 763-7856161 for more information. Play is on a first come, first serve basis.

GEO-CACHING

Town Square Park Shelter

Geo-caching is initiated by an individual hiding a cache, normally a waterproof container with small items inside, then recording the location with a GPS Unit. The cache may be in a hollow log or under an object. The individual then posts the GPS coordinates, along with a description of the cache on a web site: geocaching.com. Other individuals try to find the cache. When it is located, they sign a log book and take or leave a small item. They also post their find on the log book at geocaching.com.

Blaine Parks and Recreation has GPS Units for one day or weekend use. See rental form at blaineparks.com or come to the office for details and rules. Copy of driver’s license is required.

STAND UP PADDLE BOARDING Ages 12 & Up Just when you think you’ve experienced every possible way to enjoy getting out on the water, here comes stand up paddle boarding! Fun, new, easy, cool, and a great workout! What else is there to say?

Picture a beefed up surf board that is stable and a long canoe paddle to propel yourself. Class sizes are very small and the instruction is short and easy, so most of our time will be out on the water. No experience necessary. Max 4. Amazing Athletes programs are specifically designed to enhance your child’s learning experience through movement. Music Together

MUSIC TOGETHER

Music Together is an internationally acclaimed early childhood music and movement program for children from birth to kindergarten and the grown-ups who love them. In class, you’ll move, sing, play rhythm instruments and share 45 minutes of pure fun with your child each week for eight weeks while supporting your child's cognitive, verbal, physical, emotional, social and music development.

Families receive CDs and songbooks of the session’s song collection so the fun and learning continues at home.

The cost for these materials is included in the tuition. All classes are mixed-age, so siblings can participate together. Infants under eight months on the first day of the session are free with a paying sibling. The cut off birth date for infant siblings to be free of charge is Jan. 20, 2014. For the first time in forever! We will dance and sing to the music from Frozen and put on a show! Everyone will learn how to put together a professional show from start to finish. Friends and family are invited to observe a special performance during the last 30 minutes of the last day.

CHEER AMERICA

ages 4 & up Get active and have fun in this class. Students will learn popular junior high and high school cheers, chants, choreographed pom/ dance routines, parade marching techniques, and other performance skills. This program promotes physical fitness, self-esteem, teamwork, and learning from an adult role model. At the end, students will perform a group recital for families and friends. Students will also receive a certificate and medal. Open house and registration on Wednesday, September 24, at the National Sports Center in the Schwan’s Super Rink Dance Studio. Tae Kwon Do is a modern martial art based on Korean tradition that incorporates techniques of kicking, punching, and blocking. Learn self-defense and controlled movements through sparring. Looking for something for your kids to do on MEA Break? We have a fun-filled day planned to keep your kids busy! First, we will go to Pump It Up and bounce our way to a jumping good time. After an hour and a half of jumping, we will have pizza and a beverage. Then we will go to Anoka County Farms for pumpkin painting, hay maze, pony rides, inflatables, and much more! Young imaginations soar! The Lego Education WeDo Robotics Builder allows students to explore different Robotic Themes. Learn basic programming skills, simple engineering concepts, and how to use robot components.

Models may include soccer players, goal keeper, helicopter, and a racer. This is a great way to prepare young Robotics enthusiasts for our more advanced Robotics programs!

Students build vehicles and robots containing a LEGO Robotics Mindstorm Microcomputer which can then be controlled with a remote! Work with specialty Mindstorm LEGO pieces such as an advanced touch heat and light sensors, fiber-optic cables, caterpillar treads, and gear trains. Play robotic tag with classmates, speed through obstacle courses, and disable enemy bots with “laser” signals sent though a fiber-optic cable. Max. 24. September 4-10, 2014

This fall color tour will begin with one of the most photographed places in America, Split Rock Lighthouse. Continue north to Lake Superior to Grand Portage for an overnight. Head to Thunder Bay, Ontario for a guided tour of the city including Sibley Peninsula, beautiful Kakabecka Falls-the “Niagra of the North” and Old Fort William-an old fur trade headquarters of the 19th century. Next visit the Amethyst Mine, then see the largest Canada Goose statue in the world, along with beautiful waterfalls and scenic mountain views. Day 4 head south to Montreal River, Saulte Ste. The Mary Ann Young Senior Center is located by Aquatore Park just off Highway 65 and Cloverleaf Parkway. As a focal point for seniors, the center’s staff and volunteers offer a dynamic variety of programs and social events throughout the year.

When inclement weather arises, parents or participants may go to blaineparks.com for the latest updates about programs and events being canceled, delayed, or rescheduled. PHOTO POLICY

Photographs of program or park participants are periodically taken. These photos may appear in the local newspapers and/or Parks and Recreation Department digital and print publications. If you do not want your photo used, please tell the photographer.

PARK REPAIRS

Please notify park maintenance at 763-785-6165 about damage, vandalism or equipment cleanliness issues.

PARK SHELTER PERMITS

Some programs and activities may require a minimum number of participants. You will only be notified if the class/ activity is full or canceled. You will not receive a confirmation letter or call.

Large shelters are available to rent for family or group gatherings. See page 3 for more information. All other shelters are first-come, first-served.

REFUNDS

The Blaine Police Department and Park Patrol need your help to prevent vandalism and apprehend those who vandalize parks and recreation facilities. Vandals destroy what tax dollars have created. Costs associated with repairing vandalized property takes money away from recreational programs and facilities. Help stop vandalism. Always call 9-1-1 to report a crime in progress, including vandalism. To report a crime that occurred in a park but does not require immediate police response, call 763-427-1212. Calls are accepted 24 hours a day and you can remain anonymous.

Refunds are given if Blaine Parks and Recreation cancels the program or if registration fails because the activity is full. Participants canceling at least 7 days prior to an activity will be charged a cancellation fee as follows: $5 for programs costing $10-$99; $10 for programs costing $100 or more. Refunds will not be given for programs costing less than $10 or for cancellations made less than 7 days prior to the program start date. Trip refunds are subject to specific policies on a per-trip basis, based on advanced ticket purchases. Participants must contact the Parks and Recreation Department to request a refund.
