SEPTEMBER 2026
A Message from the
CHIEF
August was a busy month for our community, bringing the return to school, National Night Out, continued training, and many opportunities for our crews to connect with the people we serve. As we head into fall, we look forward to several important community events and hope you’ll join us. Upcoming Events 25th Anniversary September 11 Remembrance Ceremony Friday, September 11, 2026 | 11:00 AM Public Safety Facility – 911 Donaldson Way East Co-hosted with the American Canyon Police Department Annual Fire Prevention Open House Saturday, October 10, 2026 | 10:00 AM–1:00 PM Quiet Hour: 10:00–11:00 AM Safe Trick-or-Treat Saturday, October 31, 2026 | 5:00–8:00 PM Station 11 A Fall Safety Check The change of seasons is also a good reminder to take care of a few important safety items around your home.
Review your medications. Check prescription and over-thecounter medications for expiration dates. Unwanted prescription medications can be dropped off at the Public Safety Facility Monday through Friday, from 8:30 AM–5:00 PM. Many over-the-counter medications can be safely disposed of in your household trash when appropriate. Prepare for cooler weather. Before those chilly fall nights arrive, check furnaces and heating systems, keep portable heaters at least three feet from anything that can burn, and never use an oven or stovetop to heat your home. Check smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. Test alarms throughout your home and replace batteries or expired alarms as needed. Carbon monoxide safety becomes especially important as we begin using furnaces, fireplaces, and other fuel-burning appliances. Inspect fireplaces and chimneys. If you use a fireplace or wood stove, have the chimney inspected and cleaned as needed before the season begins. Always use a sturdy screen and make sure ashes are completely cool before disposal. Fall is a great time to reset, prepare, and make safety part of your seasonal routine. We appreciate the continued support of our community and look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events.

Training with
Technology Understanding Dementia
This month, AmCanFire partnered with Senior Helpers North Bay for a unique dementia simulation designed to give our personnel a better understanding of the challenges experienced by individuals living with dementia. Using specialized equipment and sensory distractions, personnel attempted everyday tasks while experiencing simulated neuropathy, visual and auditory overstimulation, confusion, and disorientation. The experience provided a powerful perspective on how seemingly simple tasks and interactions can become overwhelming for someone experiencing cognitive decline. As members of our community continue to face the challenges of dementia, training like this helps our personnel respond with greater understanding, patience, and compassion—while continuing to provide the highest level of professional care.
ACCERT, American Canyon Community Response Team, is a program that educates volunteers about disaster preparedness for the hazards that may occur where they live.
American Canyon CERT, Del Valle CERT, Napa City CERT, and Napa Valley CERT attended the National CERT Conference in Irvine, California, celebrating the 40th anniversary of CERT. If you are interested in taking the Basic CERT Class, Whether it be for personal knowledge or to join a Team and help your community when needed, you can sign up through the county website. The next class will start on September 12th.

EXPLORER CORNER
Explorers Take on Evolution 2 American Canyon Fire Explorers continued building their skills with Evolution 2, a drill focused on extended fire attack and long hose deployments. Explorers deployed a 2½-inch dead load, connected a gated wye, and extended a hotel pack to reach the simulated fire area. The evolution provided valuable hands-on practice with hose deployment, equipment setup, communication, and teamwork. Training evolutions like this help our Explorers build confidence, strengthen their fundamentals, and gain experience working together in realistic fireground scenarios.
