BOARD MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

SUSTAINABILITY ACTION PLAN

As recommended by Little Rock's Sustainability Commission, the Board approved a Sustainability Action Plan that lists strategies and goals for improving energy efficiency, implementing sustainable practices and increasing overall environmental awareness.

ADUs

Board members approved an agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration regarding land for a new VOR cone, a structure required by the FAA near the airport This will allow for redevelopment of close to 1,000 acres at the Port of Little Rock that had been previously unusable because of FAA restrictions.

Professional Development Workshop

The Office of Engagement and Opportunity hosted a communications workshop at West Central Community Center to support city team members in navigating respectful and mindful interactions. Attendees explored how language and behavior can unintentionally cause harm, learned how to recognize and avoid these patterns, and participated in an activity to reflect on real-life situations they had experienced or witnessed Thank you to Juanenna and the entire OEO team for their continued effort to ensure our city team and community communicate with care, awareness, and empathy.

Dream Night and Zoo Brew

On September 4, the Little Rock Zoo hosted Dream Night, which is a special evening created for guests who may need extra time and space to enjoy the Zoo due to chronic illness, sensory sensitivities, or mobility differences. Thank you to the Zoo for being people-centered, equitable and inclusive!

On September 11, the Little Rock Zoo also hosted Zoo Brew & Cocktails, Too, a community event that connects our residents in a fun and engaging environment! Attendees had the opportunity to explore the zoo, partake in refreshments, play games, and enjoy live music. Thank you to the Zoo for continuing to engage our residents and team members!

If you were recently hired to serve with the City of Little Rock team, you are invited to a special professional headshot session with the Marketing and Comms team! Sessions are held monthly on the fourth Wednesday with designated morning and afternoon times, and are offered as a professional development opportunity. Each session is held in the Boardroom Chamber on the second floor at City Hall. To sign-up for the upcoming session on Wednesday, September 24, please fill out the form linked below.

Note: While these sessions are primarily for new hires (as they will receive priority when selecting time slots), all city team members are welcomed to participate!

SOUTHERN BANCORP COMMUNITY DAY AT THE ZOO

The Little Rock Zoo, through Southern Bancorp Little Rock Community Days, offers special discounted admission days exclusively for Little Rock residents as a thank-you for their support. Once each quarter, residents can enjoy the Zoo for just $2 per person with $1 parking by showing proof of residency. The Zoo will be open its regular hours from 9 AM to 4 PM, with final admission at 3:30 PM. September 20, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

NATIONAL PUBLIC LANDS DAY

This event is Parks’ annual fall clean-up and will be held on Saturday, September 27. In 2025, we’re focusing on Hindman Park. POP-UP DISC GOLF AT WAR MEMORIAL PARK

Join Little Rock Outdoor Recreation for a day of disc golf fun in the heart of Little Rock! There will be a full 18-hole course set up at historic War Memorial Park, ready for play starting at 8:00 AM. The next date is Saturday, October 19. This event is free to play, but please sign in at 5511 W. Markham Drive (look for the Parks & Rec banner) before you start. Bring your favorite driver and show off your skills in the Closest to the Pin (CTP) competition! It’s all about fun and a great way to enjoy one of the city’s most beautiful parks. Suicide is among the top causes of death for people ages 10–64 and is the 2nd leading cause of death for ages 10–34. Link Here ; Link Here
