LIGHTS FOR LIONS
As you take down your holiday lights this year, don't throw away the broken onesdrop off your unwanted string lights and extension cords at the Little Rock Zoo!
By recycling these items, you're not only reducing waste but also supporting African lion conservation. We’re partnering with TRG in North Little Rock, who will recycle the copper, with proceeds going to the Lion Recovery Fund. The Lion Recovery Fund’s goal is to double the number of lions by 2050 through expanded conservation efforts and partnerships across the globe.
Donations will be accepted through January 31, 2025. You can drop off string lights and old extension cords in any condition at the collection box by the Zoo's front gate —no ticket needed. Please note, we cannot accept ornaments, wire light displays, lawn deer, or plastic stakes. For questions about large donations, call 501-371-4589.
MOVIES AT MACARTHUR
Join us for the first film in our Movies at MacArthur program for 2025, "USO: For the Troops." For 75 years, the United Service Organizations (USO) has lifted the spirits of American soldiers and kept service personnel connected to their families and country while abroad. From its inception just prior to American involvement in World War II, the USO has remained committed to its mission of increasing morale amongst our servicemen and women. While some aspects of war have greatly changed, the need for connection, entertainment, and care within our armed forces has not. USO: For the Troops conveys the fast pace and complex logistics of a modern USO tour, underlying the importance of the organization not just for service people, but for America as a whole.
Admission is FREE! Beverages and popcorn are also provided at no cost.

Equity. People-Centered. Accountability. Innovation. Exceptional Service. Professionalism.
Kudos and shoutout to our amazing Emergency Response teams and Department of Housing and Neighborhood Programs, who coordinated and implemented a means for unsheltered residents to stay warm during the extreme winter weather. Dunbar Community Center was opened as a warming shelter as a nightly operation on January 5th, and then transitioned into a 24-hour operation on January 8th This was an effort that included the help of multiple community partners and organizations. We are grateful and appreciative of everyone who offered to help with supplies, food or transportation for the shelter. Thank you for being innovative, people-centered, and for providing exceptional service! In anticipation of bitterly cold weather this week, the City of Little Rock will open its temporary emergency cold-weather shelter at Dunbar Community Center starting Sunday, Jan. 19 at 6 PM through Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 9 AM.
