It’s time to get festive!
C
Publisher’s Note
an you believe December is here already, and we are counting down the days to Christmas? It is the time of the year to take a break, eat, drink, be merry and throw the diet out the window, if you haven’t already. I find many of my friends put so much pressure on themselves over Christmas that they end up hating it. My advice, and I know I should take some of it myself, is to relax and don’t put any pressure on yourself to please everyone else. Take some time to look after you! As a mum, I know we are always trying to do everything and put everyone else’s needs before our own. This year I am promising myself that I will find some balance among the chaos and truly enjoy the festive season. As we celebrate Christmas in this edition, we also celebrate Cairns’ inspirational leaders in
law along with some of the city’s top real estate agents who will make your journey of buying or selling a smooth one. In addition, we feature all of our awesome monthly contributors, showcase the latest in fashion and feature what’s on in the city. The CairnsLife team and I thank all our readers, contributors and advertisers for their continued support, and we hope you all have a wonderful Christmas. Just remember to make sure you take time out from your busy schedule to relax and really enjoy the season with loved ones! Stay safe and cheers from all of us.

While Palm Cove’s natural beauty, relaxed atmosphere, fantastic shops, restaurants and cafés attract visitors from all over the world it’s also a favourite destination for locals who love the seaside hotspot. While there are countless of things to do at Palm Cove, two of the most popular spots loved by locals and visitors alike are Annie’s UPstairs and Annie’s at the Beach, the goto shops for perfect tropical clothing and accessories. The original tiny Annie’s UPstairs Boutique is well loved, thanks mainly to its range of cottons suitable for all ages, sizes and tastes, plus clever shoes and exciting pieces. Customers love the range of Boho, quirky, fun and tropical fashions, casual beach clothes, everyday attire, business dresses and timeless classics. Annie’s at the Beach, a sister store that opened 15 months ago, has an even larger range, including Australian and Italian linens. Its new MAN ZONE, features a range of men’s clothing made from bamboo, fine cotton and linen, and men’s shoes, all perfect for the tropics. Annie’s UPstairs Boutique Level 1, Palm Cove Shopping Village 115-117 Williams Esplanade, Palm Cove Ph: 4059 2112 Hair & Make-up: Beachfront Hair, Palm Cove Photographer: Tony Gorell, Imagination Photography
It also has an amazing selection of swimwear for women sized 6 to 24 as well as men’s and children’s swimwear. In addition, it features an exciting range of resort wear, dresses, designer silks, beach hats and beach bags. Annie has recently added fabulous quirky and clever gift ideas plus hand bags, jewelry, beach slides and more, perfect for Christmas shopping. “I don’t think there is anything wrong with purchasing your own present and popping it under tree,” owner Annie Gillow said. “And it takes the pressure off your partner.” “I love giving my customers a range of designs and choices. Ladies are now learning that they don’t need to loose sleep over buying their swimwear. It is such a personal thing, and Annie’s at the Beach has that perfect piece for you. “I love assisting them to not only look fab but also feel comfy. But the most important thing is that continued feedback, hearing about the compliments our customers are given when wearing something from Annie’s. That’s my whole reason for being and now Annie’s swimwear is attracting those compliments too.” Annie believes Palm Cove is the jewel in Tropical North Queensland’s crown and encourages locals to take a weekend break, stay at the popular beach and enjoy its charm. “Clever locals enjoy this glorious spot often,” she said. “They know and feel what I call the Palm Cove charm, where you relax almost immediately. Come, shop, stay and play.”

This is a recipe that’s been modified to cater to fussy kids (and adults!) who don’t like traditional White Christmas slice with its glacé cherries and nuts. In their place are red and green lollies and Maltesers - and they’re usually gone quicker than you can say Ho Ho Ho!
STEP ONE: Place 24 red and green cupcake cups on a tray.
MAKES 24 MINI CUPCAKESIZED TREATS
STEP FOUR: Stir and repeat on 30 second intervals until it’s all melted.
• 24 Red and green mini cupcake cases • 2 x 225g packet of white chocolate melts • 6 red snakes finely chopped • 6 green snakes finely chopped • 3/4 cup of mini marshmallows • 140g bag of Maltesers
STEP TWO: Place one Malteser in each cup. STEP THREE: Put white chocolate melts in a large bowl and place in the microwave for 30 seconds.
STEP FIVE: Add the diced snakes and marshmallows and mix well with a spoon. STEP SIX: Divide the mixture between the 24 cups, covering the Maltesers. Place the tray in the fridge refrigerate for 2 hours. Can be stored in a container in the fridge for up to a week.

‘Twas the night before Christmas, and all through the house, creatures were stirring, including a mouse… When Santa’s Naughty or Nice list goes missing it’s up to a sassy girl, a beat boxing mouse and an Elf-B-I agent to help save Christmas! With the Christmas countdown officially underway, and the Cairns summer in full swing, Munro Martin Parklands (MMP) is setting the stage for the annual Pantomime on Saturday December 16, promising an enchanting festive treat for everyone who believes in the joy of Christmas. Staged in the stunning MMP amidst picturesque parklands, the magical story about saving Christmas,‘Twas the Night Before Christmas by Ken Ludwig, promises to bring a twinkle to the eye and the delight of Christmas to our hearts. Presented by the Cairns Regional Council and produced by Box Jelly Theatre Co., this is the second Christmas Pantomime produced especially for the Parklands. In 2016 the Parklands hosted its first Panto, A Cairns Christmas Carol, to the amusement of nearly 2,000 festive families and revellers. The Parklands sets the perfect scene for a Christmas Panto, with families, friends and little ones coming together under the tropical night sky, lazing about on blankets with picnics and plenty of festive cheer. Under the clever and creative reign of Box Jelly Theatre Co., ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, pulls together local
professional talent from around the far north region for a purely home-grown cast. The actors include David Terry, (who played Scrooge in last year’s pantomime: A Cairns Christmas Carol), Veronica Brady, Anthony Ring, Amelia Pegrum, Daryl Heath, Tia Garnett, Tom Lever and Scarlett Terry. “It’s a privilege to be able to provide the region with something festive that celebrates community and coming together in the spirit of Christmas,” Director Rachel Terry says. “MMP provides the opportunity to create a special event that gives our audience a multi-layered experience,” Terry says. Featuring a local cast and choral work by Joanne Wright’s Cairns Young Voices, this event spreads the magic of Christmas from the colourful dazzling stage to the audience, creating a unique, warm and connected experience for all. “Families can bring a picnic and enjoy dinner together under the stars. Before the show, roving artists from The Young Company will entertain children with themed activities and everyone can have a ‘Selfie with Santa’. Then after the main event, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, families are invited to take photos with the cast in front of the stage, whilst Cairns Young Voices sing Christmas carols.” So get your family, friends and a picnic together and experience a tropical Christmas under the starry night sky this festive season.

MIRACLE 15 ENHANCES THE STYLING ROUTINE WITH 15 GLOBAL BENEFITS: Optimal Care Balance Defies dryness Helps to prevent hair breakage Instantly detangles Sensorial structure equalisation Delivers anti-static discipline Protects against heat (230°C / 446°F) Protects from mechanical damage factors Helps to protect against UV exposure Improves manageability Delivers feather-light styling control Creates silkiness 96 hour anti-frizz control Adds light texture Adds shine DIRECTIONS OF USE: Apply a small amount to damp hair and create the style you want. Use on dry hair for extra definition.
Why do you think you decided to become a hair stylist? Omg I have no idea lol, I was always creative, I was that geeky art girl that always had paint in her hair in high school and when the reality of completing grade 12 and needing to do something with my life hit me and I actually had to make a decision which involved adulting (is that even a word because my computer is saying it isn’t (insert thinking face) I was totally not ready, I totally didn’t have a clue I just wanted to hang out in the art room and wag english and maths. However I did do one smart subject which I have no idea how or why I liked or even passed was chemistry. Yes I know what your thinking Chemistry and art what do they have in common,?? Well I soon found out it was hairdressing my careers teacher assured me that hairdressing was my way of doing what I loved. I contemplated other industries such as fashion design and even forensic science but I ended up listening to the advice I was given and chose Hairdressing and never looked back. What inspires you? what inspires me now that is the question, not really sure what inspires me life I guess I tend to draw inspiration from everything and everyone. Who inspires you? I don’t have a specific “hair idol” or business idol. In business networking works for me I draw inspiration and learn from others that have been there or are experiencing/ Those silly motivational Facebook vids that pop up in your news feeds always and usually inspire me ( if you ask any of my staff I tend to use alot of them in our team training sessions) as for Hair idols I just love beautiful hair, seamless colours get me all the time I follow on instagram a few “Insta famous” Hairdressers which include Natalieanne, (and all of her staff) Chelsea hair cutters, and Brad ngata hair direction (he is a interesting character with a quirkiness similar to the mad hatter) Which iconic hairstyles do you love? Veronica Lake — Peek-a-boo Bangs (1940s) The film Noir femme fatale with the

peek-a-boo bangs, Veronica Lake “Just used her hair” to create an air of seductive mystery. Veronica emoted more with one eye than most do with two, and satirised her trademark locks in “A Sweater, a sarong, and a Peek-aboo Bang. Rihanna — The Undercut (1920s–30s, 1980s, 2010s) Not to be confused with a mullet, an undercut features shorter sides with length through the top. Popular with men in the Jazz Age, the look was revived by eighties skaters as the “McSqueeb.” Contemporary acolytes — Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Kate Lanphear, and Skrillex to name a few — have updated the undercut with shaved sides and asymmetry, making it edgier than ever. How do you juggle motherhood and running a business? Haha thats funny what do you mean juggle motherhood and business, who does that? motherhood juggles me, Motherhood is the biggest challenge I have come across it plays with your emotions, your strengths and also your weakness. I don’t think there is any answers to this question but I’m just going along for the ride but I will say one thing motherhood drives me to drive my business. Best advice you’ve been given? In business its not about being better its about being different What has been the most exciting moment of your career? Directing my first fashion week which lead me to direct a show along side Napoleon Perdis and hosting Lara Bingle for springsum fashion oh and styling Lorna Jane when she is in cairns (see how I name dropped there lol) but I get most enjoyment out of doing my regular clients catching up on there goss (yes i said goss) finding out about there life and when there in that moment of the hair “FLICK” at the end of the service and all you can see is total confidence in there eyes and you know there going to walk out the doors to conquer the world (ladies we all know that feeling) What is your favourite go to product? Favourite product are you serious we could be her all night, I do have favourites but it also depends on what I’m wanting to achieve. But my current all round Fav is Miracle 15 What does it do ? Well the real question is what doesn’t it do. Schwarzkopf OSIS Session Label Miracle 15 is a super versatile styling balm with 15 different benefits to prime, protect and add shine to the hair. The balm offers lightweight care – moisturized feel, helps to prevent hair breakage, instantly detangles, prevents static and helps to equalize the hair structure all while offering many different styling opportunities and heat protection (up to 230°C/450°F).

It’s lawyers like Sandra Lim who make Shine Lawyers Cairns the top firm to turn to for personal injury compensation and advice. Sandra, who has been with the practice for 10 years, is one of just three Shine Special Counsels in Queensland, which is a huge advantage for Cairns’ clients. “In my role as Special Counsel with Shine Cairns, I am passionate about ensuring our clients receive the best legal advice and that the litigation process is as stress-free as possible for them,” she said. “Using my experience to get the best outcomes for them is my main priority, as is collaborating with our senior legal team.” Before joining Shine, Sandra worked almost exclusively for insurers for 10 years, so she understands how to negotiate with them to resolve compensation claims without having to go to court. “Insurance can be very challenging to deal with, and often people underestimate the financial impact an injury can have on them and their families,” she said. “Many people are not aware of what compensation they are entitled to if they’re injured.”
Shine Lawyers Cairns can provide assistance to those who are injured and are attempting to claim compensation against the insurance that is provided by many superannuation funds. Not only do they have the knowledge and expertise needed to get results for their clients, they are also backed by a powerful national firm and a team of highly skilled lawyers who have a proven track record of getting results no matter how tough the challenge is. “We get a great deal of satisfaction helping people and seeing the difference an award or compensation can make in helping them get their lives back on track,” Sandra said. “Every case is different and injuries affect different people in different ways. We act on a no-win, no-fee basis and genuinely care about making clients as comfortable as possible throughout the legal process.

You won’t find her in a formal legal office surrounded by lawyers in business suits, assistants and secretaries. Nor will you ever have a hard time reaching her personally, or be faced with paying huge unexpected lawyer’s fees. Instead, you’ll be pleasantly surprised to discover an experienced, hard-working, downto-earth, affordable and accessible lawyer whose focus is her clients’ best interests. “The number one focus for me is my clients, and delivering a service that benefits them,” Lisa said. “Family and estate law is very personal and can be quite emotional, and it’s important to me that my clients are comfortable with me, and I achieve a resolution they are happy with.” Lisa’s credentials are impeccable and her academic record is unparalleled, having been awarded the Family Law Prize at James Cook University and an Academic Medal for her high marks in all areas of law. She has won numerous awards, including runner-up in the
2015 prestigious Women Lawyers Association of Queensland Regional Woman Lawyer of the Year. Lisa also holds a Masters Degree in family law and as a result she is highly respected by her clients and fellow professionals. She opened her private practice two years ago to deliver quality, personalised family law services, including de facto and same-sex relationship matters, and wills and estate law, all at an affordable price. The breakdown of a marriage or relationship or the passing of a loved one are some of the most stressful periods in a person’s life, and it’s important to Lisa that her office environment is a warm and welcoming, one where clients feel comfortable confidentially talking about their personal issues. Her hands-on attention to clients, availability, positive attitude, genuine empathy and warm and friendly nature are the trademarks that set her above others in her field.
and whose vast experience and knowledge is a huge benefit for clients. Together the husband-andwife team personally handle all client interaction, paperwork and legal requirements. “I’ve worked in different law firms, but I wanted to deliver the law differently, so I opened my own firm with Chris,” said Lisa, who was born in Dublin but has lived in Cairns for more than 23 years.

While Philip Bovey is North Queensland’s most experienced and in-demand criminal lawyer with 34 years of experience, he also has two skilled criminal lawyers working alongside him. “The need for top rank criminal law advice and representation as good as any found in south east Queensland meant the need to employ appropriately qualified lawyers to assist me,” Philip said. Babinda-born Fabia Parker joined Philip Bovey & Company in 2015 while Aaron Mansia, who has lived in Cairns since he was six, joined earlier this year. “I can confidently say that Fabia and Aaron are within the top rank of young criminal law practitioners,” Philip said. “They also bring the advantage of having grown up in
the region, having been educated here and are both graduates of the local law school.” You could say Fabia has had law in her blood as far back as she can remember. As her uncle is a lawyer, and her great-uncle was a Judge, she wanted to be a lawyer since she was a young girl and she had her first job at a law firm when she was 16 years old. “I just always wanted to be a lawyer since I was a little girl, which is an unusual aspiration for a young child,” she said. “After I had my first legal job when I was 16 as a secretary to a criminal lawyer I knew being a lawyer was the right career path for me. Criminal law always interested me. I always wanted to help people, and I thought that criminal lawyers helped
people the most. People’s civil liberties are really important to me, and I want to make sure innocent people don’t go to jail and that justice is done. Aaron, who also wanted to be a lawyer since he was a young man, was also always focused on specialising in criminal law. “I feel passionate about defending people,” he said. “I always wanted to practice solely in criminal law, and when the opportunity came up to join Philip Bovey & Company I jumped at it.” Philip has conducted criminal cases ranging from traffic matters in the Magistrates Court to the High Court of Australia with an outstanding record of success.

While Philip is pleased to have the two skilled lawyers on his team to give clients stronger representation, Fabia and Aaron say they are the lucky ones. “Philip is extremely intelligent, diligent, thorough and hardworking,” said Fabia. “I feel really privileged to learn from him and work for him.” Aaron agrees. “I personally believe he is the best criminal lawyer in Far North Queensland, probably all of Queensland,” he said. “He’s very passionate about what he does, and he’s a great mentor to Fabia and I.” Philip and his team undertake the full range of criminal matters and offer clients a range of fixed fees covering the various stages of the legal process. “I settled on a fixed-fee relationship with clients early in private practice,” Philip said. “This gives the clients complete certainty about what service is to be provided and what costs will be incurred.”

EXPERT HELP DURING DIFFICULT TIMES
Going through the breakdown of a relationship is both financially and emotionally challenging, but Terry Newman and his team at Newman Family Law make the process so much easier for their clients. Terry has been practising family law for 37 years, is one of only a few Accredited Family Law Specialists in Cairns and was one of the first lawyers to achieve that status in Queensland. He started his own practice in 2009 after working as a partner running the family law section at Farrellys Lawyers since 1983. “No one gets married to get divorced,” said Terry, who is wellknown and highly respected for being empathetic to his clients while giving them calm, realistic and cost-effective advice. “It’s a difficult time for the majority of clients and we are not prepared to just give yes answers to their questions, but we realistically assess their needs and rights under the Family Law Act and assist them with a solution to their problems.” Terry is currently listed as a Preeminent Solicitor on the Doyles Guide of Leading Family and Divorce Lawyers in North Queensland, which identifies his expertise and abilities in this area.

He has also completed the National Training Program as an Independent Child’s Lawyer appointed by the Family Court of Australia or the Federal Circuit Court of Australia to act on behalf of children. “My experience over the years gives me the understanding of a huge variety and range of cases,” Terry said. “I can work out how to assist a client and how to provide a calm and logical approach to resolving issues. I believe the best solicitors can achieve is a resolution for their clients keeping them out of court.”

NEW CHAPTER OF LEARNING OPENS ST JOSEPH’S SCHOOL
St Joseph’s School, Parramatta Park opened its doors on a new chapter of learning on October 30 when its learners entered the school’s new Innovative Learning Environments for the first time. The school’s new learning buildings incorporate a series of ILEs which consist of a multi-storey building for Years 1 to 6 and a separate ground floor building for Prep.
anniversary last month, 80 per cent of the school had been demolished to make way for the new state-of- the-art learning facilities being built. “However, as we evolve into the future and transform from the oldest school in the city to the most modern with the newest technological and pedagogical advances, we are not losing the essence of who we are,” Mr Rick said.
“We’ve gone away from the term ‘classroom’ to the term ‘Learning Habitat’,” Principal Rick said.
“What has stayed the same is the original vision of the Mercy Sisters of having a school of mercy, forgiveness and love.”
“A habitat is a natural home for an organism, plant or animal, and we want our learning environments to be just like that – homely and having everyone in the learning habitats such as teachers, students and parents positively impacting each other.”
“The schooling systems we all went through are very different today, so we’ve also spent a lot of time providing our teachers with professional development to keep up with all the changes in technology and teaching practices,” Mr Rick said.
New outdoor learning and play spaces are currently being planned with input from staff, parents and students, with transformation of the school due for completion in February 2018.
“It’s really about getting our heads around changes in the world, keeping up with automation, digital technology and virtual reality and how we can use these aspects of the modern world in our learning processes. The amount of knowledge today has grown expediently, and we have to keep up with it. We want our graduates to be making a difference in the world, improving humanity.
Mr Rick said the Learning Habitats are deliberately designed to have clear and open lines of sight, which enables learning and engagement to be observable from all aspects of the space. The inclusion of sound proof break-out spaces and the selection and placement of carefully chosen furniture are also instrumental in creating discrete learning zones within the large space. As the school celebrated its 90th CairnsLife 46 Magazine
“What hasn’t changed, though, are the basics of literacy, numeracy and caring relationships between people, which was the original vision of the Sisters of Mercy. That will never change!”

ASTOUNDING ACHIEVEMENTS TRINITY ANGLICAN SCHOOL
Graduating students at Trinity Anglican School (TAS) are renowned for consistently attaining high academic results, and this was confirmed again this year when four of its students excelled above and beyond.
“We’re very proud of her,” Principal Sjogren said. “Claudia was the only student outside South East Queensland to gain a place in this award-winning Ancient History program, which is a fantastic result.”
Samuel Kwort and Yasin Adikari won first and second place respectively at the 2017 Science Teachers Association of Queensland’s (STAQ) Science Competition. Claudia Philp was second in a statewide Queensland History Teachers’ Association Historical Writing Competition. Kane O’Rielley gained a prestigious scholarship at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts (AADA) in Los Angeles.
Kane’s scholarship was a rare achievement across Australia. He is one of only 180 students worldwide, and believed to be one of only three Australians to gain this prestigious scholarship.
“This was absolutely wonderful news,” Principal Paul Sjogren said. “These are remarkable achievements for these four students.” Winning first and second place in the STAQ Science competition was no easy feat. “The competition is for all students throughout Queensland, including the large, STEM-focused schools in South East Queensland,” Principal Sjogren said. “As a physics teacher in a past life, I know how incredibly high the standard of submissions are in this competition and to achieve the top two places is extraordinary.” Sam and Yasin are now being considered for selection in the prestigious national science competition, the BHP Billiton Science and Engineering Awards. Historical Writing Competition winner Claudia, is a school vice-captain, an outstanding sportswoman and a student with a strong focus on academics.
“Alumni of the AADA include Robert Redford, Kirk Douglas, Danny DeVito, Lauren Bacall and a host of others,” Principal Sjogren said. “Alumni have received 108 Oscar nominations, 288 Emmy nominations and 93 Tony nominations. This is a remarkable feat by Kane and will provide him a wonderful stepping-stone for a career in performing arts. It’s truly amazing.” While these four students have achieved outstanding success this year, TAS focuses on helping every student achieve success. “All students are given the opportunity and support to shine,” Principal Sjogren said.
“Our core belief is that every student can reach their academic potential, and we work hard to assist them to do so.”

My name is Toby Waite and I am one of the Managing Directors of TSW Security Solutions. TSW is a local company that my wife and I started as we held the belief that the security industry within Far North Queensland was in great need of a shake-up to lift its standards. To put it quite simply, we wanted to change the image to that of a well presented, polite trained professional. My wife and I both being exmilitary knew that in order to achieve our goals, we needed to be rigorous about, not only our internal recruitment system, but also our training system. This was the driving force behind TSW Security Solutions becoming an affiliate of SDS Training and Security Pty Ltd (Provider No. 31982). This allows TSW Security Solutions to directly impact
the quality of Security Officers entering the industry. I personally take pride in teaching the courses. This way I can pass on all the tips and tricks that I have learnt along the way and go over a few confronting situations that I was exposed to on the job. We focus on ensuring our students are “Job Ready”. Our courses aren’t just another tick and flick. We cover all aspects of the student’s career that they may be required to complete in a hands-on approach with a strong focus on relevant legislation and practical First Aid training. This allows our students to enter this workforce with confidence and be fully aware of their new undertaking. Our modern and specialized training facilities are conveniently located in Behan St. Manunda. Our students are

able to attend a dedicated training facility with ample free parking. It is important that students have the knowledge to operate equipment used on the job. We are able to provide our students with practical experience using state of the art equipment that is currently used within the security industry. We take pride in being the locally preferred training provider, as we ensure every single one of our students are job ready at the highest professional level at the conclusion of their courses. Our training facility also includes a retail shop stocking high quality tactical equipment and uniforms. We stock torches, shoes, belts, pants, vests etc. everything you could possibly need to start your new security career. We only stock items we have personally used in the field enabling us to ensure quality products that will not let you down when they are needed most.
WE CURRENTLY OFFER THE FOLLOWING COURSES: • Certificate III Security Operations • K9 Security Course • Batons and Handcuffs Course • Cash In Transit Course • Body Guard Course • First Aid Courses • Security Refresher Courses

From CrudeOil to Midnight Oil A S L I C K 2 0 1 7 AT TA N K S With 2017 winding down to an inevitable close, we’re taking the opportunity to reflect on the year that was at the Tanks Arts Centre, voted Cairns’ best entertainment venue seven years running in a local poll. Entrenched in the culture of Cairns, ‘The Tanks’ boasts premium live music, exhibitions, theatre, film screenings and festivals, while intertwining history and nature for a distinctive visitor experience. The year’s music program presented multiple sold out shows from the little known New Orleans street band The Hot 8 Brass Band and the Havana Meets Kingston Sound System to Australian legends Midnight Oil, Jimmy Barnes, Pete Murray, Kasey Chambers and The Living End. Then there was the three sold out nights for Aussie alternative dance music group, Rufus, who brought their own lighting and sound system to blow everyone away. Indie rock favourites Paul Dempsey and Sarah Blasko also stopped in to the Tank 5 arena, and for the rock ‘n’ roll purists, iconic names like Spiderbait, You Am I and Tex Perkins, Don Walker and Charlie Owen gave Cairns fans a reason to let their hair down in 2017. The fun extended to the younger members of the community, with the Theatre for Children series and the biggest Cairns Children’s Festival yet, attracting record numbers of little ones and their adults to the site. A host of other events took place around the Botanic Gardens and Tanks precinct including the Father’s Day event of the year, Carnival On Collins, the Tanks Monthly Market Days and Cairns Tropical Pride’ annual Fair Day and Exhibition. Now in its fourth year, the Understory Film Festival welcomed local film icon Aaron Fa’aoso as MC on the night, with huge news just announced that Aaron has agreed to be the official face of the Festival in the years to come. Proving popular amongst far north movie buffs, Tanks Round Cinema series celebrated a successful first year, with many sold out evenings of high quality arthouse and independent film screenings. The Tank 4 Gallery housed some stunning collections over the year, with the prestigious Artists of the North and
ENERGY exhibitions showcasing work of some of the region’s most promising and established artists. The #wearecairns exhibition saw an inspired concept come to life with involvement from over 800 participants from the Cairns community representing the cultural diversity of Cairns. In another first for the Tanks Arts Centre, artist Elizabeth Hunter launched a night-time only exhibition celebrating life through death, including a special night on the Day of The Dead inviting the community to bring in photos of loved ones, flowers and candles to form a community shrine outside Tank 3. We held our laughing bellies when comedy came to town with the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and Sydney Comedy Festival showcases. Plus legends of comedy, the Doug Anthony Allstars made an almighty return to the Tanks with two sold out shows. Other guests who tickled our funny bones were Hannah Gadsby, Dave Hughes, Peter Helliar and Tom Gleeson. With Cairns named the official host for the 2017 NAIDOC Week Awards, the Tanks’ annual Singing Up Country music event celebrated three formidable young Australian artists. While the acclaimed CIAF Fashion Performance returned to Tanks, attracting sold out sessions. The Tanks continued their esteemed partnership with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) for the second year, with Australian rock legend Ed Kuepper joining QSO in a world first to perform bespoke orchestrations. To cap off what has been one of the biggest years to date, the Tanks said ‘goodbye for now’ to one of Australia’s favourite singer/ songwriters Josh Pyke, who played one of his final shows this month before taking an indefinite break from music. But never fear music fans; 2018 is shaping up to be even bigger with reformed Aussie rock band the Sunnyboys playing Tanks in February, Jimmy Barnes bringing part two of his acclaimed spoken word show to Cairns in May, and The Whitlams marking their 25th anniversary in June.
Make sure you check out the official Tanks website and Facebook page to stay informed of the best live music, art, culture and community events taking place in Cairns!

The Chambers, formerly known as Earl Court, has been a prominent feature of downtown Cairns for years, noticeable for its colonnades and arch windows. Sitting on the corner of Lake and Spence Street, the structure has been host to many businesses after its original purpose as a branch of The National Bank of Australasia in 1926. Utilizing Romanesque columns and arches, the distinguishing mark of Mareeba architect Richard Hill (in a joint venture with Brisbane’s Lange Powell), the initial construction efforts were also a home-grown affair thanks to the endeavours of several Queensland based companies and local families, among them the Watkins, Lanhams and Deakins.
After the building ceased operation as a bank, the property was then acquired by an interstate investor, housing a varietyExisting of Image - La tenants as it stood opposite the Boland Centre and the Adelaide Steamship Building. Refurbishment of The Chambers began in early 2017, and with that history as a platform, the space was redesigned for locals and tourists alike to share in. With a 95% local contractor base, The Chambers is all about community engagement, seeking to play a part in revitalising the CBD by restoring the historical integrity of the site. Utilising local talent was a priority for the developers, and so involving the community in the restoration became an essential part of the project.

PELVIC ORGAN PROLAPSE (POP) D R P H O E BE H ONG
Many women are too embarrassed to talk about their women bits, let alone discussing about the problem they have. Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is one of the taboo subjects as how would one explain to another that their insides are falling out! Nevertheless, discussing it with other women helps one realise just how common this problem is. Pelvic organ prolapse occurs when a pelvic organ drops from its normal place in the lower abdomen into the vaginal cavity. When it is severe, the organ can be seen coming out of the vaginal cavity. It happens when the pelvic floor muscle is so weak that it no longer holds the organ in its normal position and the vaginal wall tissue lack strength allowing the organ to bulge in. Pelvic organ prolapse is just a general umbrella term that describes the problem in general. The specific terms your doctor may use depends on the organs dropping out of their normal position.

• Uterine prolapse – when the uterus drop down into the vagina from the top of the vagina • Vault prolapse – when the top end of the vagina (in women with previous uterus removal surgery) drop down into the vagina • Cystocoele – when the bladder, which is in front of the uterus, drop down into the vagina through the front wall of the vagina • Rectocoele or enterocoele – when the large bowel or small bowel drop into the vagina through the back wall of the vagina Often, women have more than one organ dropping into the vagina but this can be of different severity and it is usually worse towards the end of the day due to gravity effect. Symptoms of pelvic organ prolapse can vary as well. Though most women often have no symptoms, one may notice things such as: • A dragging or aching sensation in the vagina • Feeling that something is falling down or
seeing a bulge at the entrance of the vagina • Not being able to empty the bladder or bowel properly • Leaking urine, especially when sneezing, coughing or laughing • Frequent urinary tract infection Many women put up with the symptoms as it is thought to be a normal part of aging but help is actually available. Most are aware of the use of surgery to fix the prolapse but it may also be managed without surgery, such as: • Lifestyle changes to avoid risk factors that make prolapse worse, such as chronic constipation, chronic cough, chronic heavy lifting, and overweight • Pelvic floor muscle training to improve the strength of pelvic muscle supporting the organs • Vaginal oestrogen treatment or laser treatment may help to reduce thinning of the vaginal tissues, hence improve its supporting ability • Use of a pessary, a flexible vaginal support device that comes in a range of shapes and sizes, to provide support from inside of the vagina to hold the organs in place Treatment options should depend on the severity of the prolapse and symptoms. It is important to remember that early management gives the best outcomes as prolapse left unmanaged, often gets worse over time but this is usually a gradual process. Here are some questions you may bring to your doctor when considering your treatment options: • Do I really need this? • What happens if I don’t? • What are my options? • What are the risks or benefits of each option? • What are the costs? • How often do I need a follow up? • How will it affect my life or work such as ability to drive or time off work? • Is it a fix? Can it come back?

NAVIGATING CHRISTMAS AS A SEPARATED PARENT SUZANNE HADLEY
Navigating your first Christmas as a separated parent can be daunting. The idealised Christmas involving happy smiling children’s faces surrounded by loving family members pumped out across all forms of media can make the prospect of facing Christmas as a separated parent feel quite depressing. Don’t let the separation mean the end of a magical Christmas for your children. Childhood is a time for parents to store up memories for the children. No loving parent wants their children’s memory of Christmas to be one of family tension and guilt that they are not spending enough time with either parent. Have clear expectations about where the children will be on Christmas Day and communicate with the other parent. Whether you choose direct communication, through a communication book, text messages, email or the talking parents.com website, keep your communications businesslike and on topic. The aim is to shield your children from conflict. No matter what’s happening between you and the other parent, it’s not about you. It’s not about him/her. It’s about your children having the time of their lives. It’s about parents and other family members, building magical memories for your children. When it comes to navigating Christmas as a separated parent, remember that it is not a competition about who can give the most expensive gifts to the children. It is not always the case that each parent has the same financial means, which can create tension with the approach of Christmas and of course birthdays, graduations and the like. One way of avoiding such a competition and also avoid children taking advantage of this weakness to get what he or she
wants, is to consult with the other parent well ahead of time about gifts. This approach can avoid your child being witness to parental differences. Perhaps you might consider combining forces with the other parent for a common gift. If you have agreed with the other parent that it is their time with the children this year and you will have the next year, find ways not spend Christmas alone. Some separated parents change everything, sweeping clean their previous ways of celebrating. They change the table settings, decorations, the menus. Separated parents frequently develop new traditions to better match their new lives. Turn that negative of not spending Christmas with your children into a positive. Celebrate the festive season by taking a break for yourself. You know your children are in safe hands with the other parent and this year it’s time for you to relax. There will be other Christmases when You will spend time with the children. Reassure yourself that you have the whole year to spend time with them. This moment, this year, take care of yourself. If the children are with you on Christmas Day, encourage them to have meaningful contact with the other parent throughout the course of the day. Arrange for them to have Skype or FaceTime to communicate with mum/ dad. Encourage your children to have contact with family members from the co-parents family in the lead up to the big day or if possible on the day itself. Your focus should be more about what is best for the children and how they will remember their Christmas rather than what you want as a separated parent. Make your children feel great and their Christmas magical and don’t forget to take time for yourself.

THE POWER OF PR FESTIVE PR DAN A E J O NE S
The festive season is in full swing and while many businesses are planning to close their doors for their annual set timeframe, many others remain open, as it is their strongest trading period of the entire calendar year. If you’re a business that is looking forward to the annual shut down, that doesn’t mean your Public Relations needs to wind down as well. The Christmas and New Year period is actually a great time to secure positive, feel good publicity for your business as newsrooms don’t go to sleep over the festive season, they continue to deliver the news each day and are looking for feel good stories more so than any other time of year. This is a great opportunity to promote your Christmas charity work, something unique you might be treating your staff with as a Christmas gift, or even inviting media along to your end of year events to capture some social pics of your business.

Here are some helpful tips for your Festive PR:
e: danae@ d an aej o n e s .c o m .a u w: www.d an aej o n es.c o m .a u
Don’t put your publicity on hold This is a time of year that you can be fun, creative and innovative with your media opportunities. The media love a story to get their audience laughing, or a good Samaritan piece that tugs at the heart strings. There are less people available to interview at this time of year so journalists struggle to fill their papers and news bulletins and are looking for visually appealing and feel good stories to fill the gaps. Think about how you could pitch a story to your local media outlets to not only attract positive PR for your business, but help the newsroom gain a great story to add to their days line up. Networking Everyone is hosting a party in the lead up to Christmas, so take advantage of the time to network and enjoy meeting new people and socialising with your

customers, suppliers and staff. Get amongst it and spread some festive cheer! Social Media – the 24/7 hungry beast that must be fed over the festive season Don’t stop your social media posting just because the doors are closed at your business premises. The online medium is a living, breathing 24/7 medium. This hungry beast needs feeding just as much as you over the festive period!. Wishing your online community Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and Happy Australia Day are just some of the key posts you need to have ready to go as people will be expecting to hear from you. This can all be pre-planned and scheduled in advance before your closure date. Speak to your audience when they are relaxed and in a good head space to receive new information Over the festive season many of your consumers will be on holidays and may have more time to read the newspaper, watch TV, listen to the radio or go online. It is a great time to grab their attention while they are in a relaxed head space. By securing media coverage in the right media outlets over this period, you could be capturing your target audiences undivided attention. It is also important to remember that at this time of year many people are making life changing decisions as they discuss their futures with friends and family and reflect on the year that was. So it is important to be ‘present’ in their lives at this time and be speaking to them when they are willing to receive your information. I know it’s very tempting to put a stop to all Marketing & PR activities over the holiday period, but it can be one of the most valuable times to spruik your message to your audience. Consider your Festive PR messages and how they can positively impact your business for the year ahead.
MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE (DR.VODDER) CH RI ST I ANE WAGNE R

Why apply manual lymphatic drainage? Surgical invasion, rheumatic diseases or cancer can cause problems with lymphatic fluid flow, which can lead to additional health complications. Manual lymphatic drainage improves overall lymphatic flow by draining this fluid through lymph vessels, veins and gauze. This reduces oedema, swelling and relieves pain. When applying lymphatic drainage, I use gentle, rhythmic, circular pumping massage techniques to drain congested fluid towards the appropriate lymph nodes. This is very different to regular massage techniques and creates a suction effect that improves the overall drainage of congested fluid. Excess tissue is removed, pain is decreased and the remaining tissue becomes looser and softer, resulting in better physical movement and mobilty. I also encourage patients to use a special breathing technique for the stimulation of additional lymph nodes. Lymphatic drainage can be applied to the arms, legs, belly, head or spine, depending on the clinical presentation of each patient. I provide a combination therapy that includes manual lymphatic drainage, measuring/ correcting your pH, postdrainage use of elastic stockings or bandages, rehabilitative exercises and skin care. These work synergistically to promote the body’s physical drainage system. Is manual lymphatic drainage an approved medical therapy? Yes. The importance of lymphatic drainage has been demonstrated by Dr. Vodder since 1950. Dr. Vodder was a physican who pioneered the medical speciality known as lymphology. His lymphology techniques are the gold standard in manual lymphatic drainage and are a recognised and approved medical therapy. The lymphatic vessels form a vital transportation system for bodily fluids. Located next to the blood vessels, the lymphatic system is also

KEEP CALM AND GO ‘EXCLUSIVE’! EVA GRABNER
A valued client recently asked me if I would ‘share’ a job with another recruiter. At first, I was slightly offended until I realised that this client really didn’t understand the value they gained from working with only one recruiter. It’s not unusual for a client to believe that ‘sharing the love’ or working with a number of recruiters can give you a competitive edge when it comes to sourcing a new member of your team. Even though working exclusively with one recruiter may seem risky because you’re putting all your eggs in one basket but in fact, with the right recruitment agency, it will save you time, money and hassle. Recruitment isn’t just about finding a good-enough candidate that’s available when you need them, it’s about finding a high performer who will be an ideal match for you, your team, your goals, culture and future plans. The kind of information required to make that judgement cannot be obtained during a five-minute phone conversation. Finding the right talent takes time and focus to ensure that both you and the candidate are strongly aligned to make the required impact in your business together. Despite thinking that engaging several recruiting companies may provide you with access to more qualified candidates, this is rarely the case. And this is why:
Providing an unrivalled one-on-one bespoke service, Eva Grabner is the changing face of the recruitment industry. As an Executive Recruiter and Search Consultant with over a decade of experience, Eva works alongside her clients to understand their business and culture. With an extensive global network and current knowledge on market conditions, Eva quickly identifies the best high performing candidates for her clients, and works closely with both parties to ensure a seamless transition.
• When you assign a recruiter to a specific role on an exclusive basis, you get the recruiter’s FULL commitment to filling that role. The misunderstanding with some companies is that ‘competition’ is better, however, what really happens is a short burst of activity when you will receive resumes in a rush and not always seriously vetted in detail.
• They will fully qualify the talent in terms of start date, salary and clear expectations. • You are dealing with one competent recruiter, no multiple agency briefings and multiple contacts to deal with, saving you valuable time (which is why you hire a recruiter in the first place!). • Your confidentiality is preserved as the role is not being touted around town by several recruiters, each speaking with up to 10 candidates about the role. • Your brand and image is improved by using one recruiter, because your job is not devalued in the eyes of talent, who in our experience (especially at the senior level) become wary of a job’s quality when it is represented by multiple recruiters. It sends an unintended message of desperation about a company who would have to use such tactics to fill a senior role. • Finally, exclusivity means you will not have the issue of recruiters referring the same talent to you which can put you in an awkward position of having to adjudicate which recruiter referred them first. A few years ago, we received a call from a client who had asked several recruiters to assist them in filling an Operations Manager’s role for them. They were quite distressed as they had been bombarded by resumes, both from the recruitment agencies, but also from their own advertising.
• Once a recruiter is exclusively retained they are responsible for finding you the right person. They will work tirelessly until they source someone that is ideally matched, not ‘good enough’ for the position!
They had spent hours upon hours reviewing all applicants, many of whom were doubled up. They ended up being unable to place their preferred candidate as this person applied via two different recruitment agencies. Since they were unable to verify when the resume was originally received, they could not make a placement or would be up for two sets of fees. A hard lesson learnt which cost them more in time and money than it would have if they had used an agency exclusively in the first place!
• Quality is imperative when recruiting a senior role and going non-exclusive puts the focus on speed. Why would you want your crucial hiring decision based on who can get candidates to you first? You would never choose between brain surgeons based on who can do the required work quicker, would you?
At Elite Executive we only work exclusively with our clients because we provide them with the best possible service and believe that using a recruiter exclusively will ultimately save you money and time. We consider ourselves to be an extension of your business and will treat it with the respect and attention that it deserves.
• Exclusivity allows the recruiter to bring all of their resources to bear in the talent search. Not just a quick data-base search, but a thorough, detailed talent search including networks, communities and social media.
If you would like any advice on how to go about choosing the right recruitment partner for your business, please don’t hesitate to call.
• Time allows a thorough talent interview, including full assessment of skills, experience and attitude.

Added to this are New Years festivities and all the sounds that brings; champagne glasses tinkling, beautiful music playing, fireworks igniting, laughter and ringing in the New Year. enjoying life much more. Gone is the frustration of having to strain to hear, feeling left out of the conversation, ineffective communication, misunderstandings and it all being too hard. This leads to isolation and eventually depression can set in. But in most cases there is no need for this. Today’s hearing technology is so advanced that the latest hearing devices have 4 small micro-processors on board, focusing on enhancing speech, bringing sound in clearly and crisper and with a special program dedicated to music the subtle nuances can be heard again. At AUDiOHEALTH your hearing is in sound hands. Any product obtainable in Australia is available at our independent family Practice which focuses on innovation along with old fashioned service. Hearing is fragile and precious and needs to have the utmost care and attention. Our team of friendly clinicians take their time to actively listen and find the best solutions to each individuals hearing needs. If you already have hearing devices bring them in for a free in-house service. Often a clean and check will help improve the performance of existing hearing devices. We can also run them through a commercial drying chamber to remove any moisture. To ensure they are working at peak performance for all the social occasions ahead book for a hearing check and programming of the devices. If you have very old hearing aids consider donating them to the Starkey Foundation where they can be put to good use for children overseas. During October we were involved in an outreach mission which assisted hundreds of people in Vanuatu to hear again including a gorgeous set of three year old twins. Happy Festive Season and Happy Healthy Hearing.
ACTUAL INSURANCE ACCIDENT CLAIMS
One of the advantages of dealing with an insurance broker, your broker is there to assist with claims. Of course one of the most important things about making insurance claims is painting an accurate picture of what has actually happened. Without a broker to guide you it is possible to say or write something that could reduce your chances of a successful claim.

I turned the wheel to what I thought was enough and found myself in a different direction going the opposite way. •The accident happened when the right front door of a car came round the corner without giving a signal. • I had been driving for forty years when I fell asleep at the wheel and had an accident. • I left for work this morning at 7am as usual when I collided straight into a bus. The bus was 5 miniutes early. • An invisible car came out of nowhere, struck my car and vanished. • I knew the dog was possessive about the car but I would not have asked her to drive it if I had thought there was any risk. • The accident happened because I had one eye on the truck in front, one eye on the pedestrian, and the other on the car behind. • I started to turn and it was at this point I noticed a camel and an elephant tethered at the verge. This distraction caused me to lose concentration Disclaimer: This information may not be suitable for your individual objectives, financial planning situation or needs and you should seek advice from a qualified insurance broker before making any general insurance decisions. #1. MEDIATION IS EXPENSIVE Not compared to court! Fees vary amongst mediators of course but I cap my fees at $1750 which is ideally shared between the parties to the mediation. Whereas court can cost upwards of $50 000 per person.
MEDIATION MYTHS NARDINE COLLIER
#2. MEDIATION TAKES TIME TO ARRANGE Some of the organisations that run mediations do have waiting lists but private mediators can generally arrange a mediation within weeks. If the mediation involves family law property settlements, the mediator will require that the parties exchange documents ( as to values and so on) prior to the mediation which can sometimes slow the process, but usually a mediation can be done in a short time frame. #3. I HAVE TO SIT IN THE SAME ROOM WITH THE OTHER PERSON You don’t have to, you can ask the mediator for a ‘shuttle’ mediation which means you each sit in separate rooms and the mediator goes back and forth between you.
Nard in e Collie r is an accr edi t ed S p ecia list in Fa m il y Law, a Fam i l y Disp u te Re solution Pr act i t i oner, a F ami l y Law Ar bitrat or, and panel med i ator for va r iou s Aust r al i a w i de o rg an i sations , cour ts and t r i bunal s.
#4. I WILL MAKE AN OFFER WHICH WILL THEN BE USED AGAINST ME IN COURT It is a rule with every mediation, that what is said at mediation is confidential and cannot be relayed in court proceedings. This means parties can make offers, concessions, or admissions freely without being worried about this information being used against them in court. #5. ITS TOO LATE, WE ARE ALREADY IN COURT
It is never too late!!!! It used to be common (and does still happen more often than it should) that parties would settle a dispute on the doorstep of the court – in other words on the first day of the hearing. By then, people had spent a great deal of money in legal fees. It is never too late to resolve a dispute ( ideally well before the first day of hearing!) #6. WE WILL NEVER AGREE Never say never. Even if you don’t end up in total agreement you might be able to narrow the issues in dispute; and at the very least you will come away from the mediation with a better understanding of the other person’s issues. #7. THE OTHER PERSON WILL BELITTLE ME OR BE ABUSIVE There is always the shuttle option, but if you have a face to face mediation, the mediator will insist that parties deal with each other (and the mediator) with respect. The mediator will simply not allow interruptions or abuse. #8. I AM NOT ABLE TO TAKE MY LAWYER Some places won’t allow it but I encourage it and so do most private mediators. If you don’t want to bring your lawyers that is fine as well, so long as you both do the same ( i.e. you both have lawyers come along, or you both don’t. ) MEDIATE, DON’T LITIGATE!!! Your initial sessions will involve completing a comprehensive form about yourself and your body. Any Pre and Post existing conditions Back Pain , etc. Your instructor will also observe your Gait Cycle and your posture type. e.g.. Kyphotic, (Rounded Shoulders etc) You will learn the Fundamental Breathing Technique of Pilates, which helps to engage the Transverse Abdominus, the deep abdominal muscles which is layered underneath your 6 Pack Abdominals (Rectus Abdominus) and the Obliques. The Transverse Abdomis is a corset like muscle that wraps around, helping to support your back and mid section. To engage the TA you need to co-contract the abdominals and the Pelvic Floor muscles. The Pilates breathing technique involves lateral breathing (expanding the ribs out and back) rather than breathing into your belly or chest. You will also feel more relaxed and de-stressed at the end of your session. Whether you’re travelling elsewhere to visit family and friends for Christmas, or just heading out to flashy parties with close friends to celebrate the festivities, no doubt, you’ll want to look your very best. So here are 5 top Christmas beauty tips: 1. Party Make Up Party make-up has to be right if you want to look beautiful at your Christmas event. The key to looking absolutely divine is to apply your eye shadow first, followed by your foundation and other make-up you would like apply. This is to ensure loose eye shadow won’t be falling where you don’t want it. 2. Simple ‘Up Do’ Christmas is such a frantic occasion that you can easily be exhausted and not be able to find the energy to be worrying about hairstyles. The answer to this, since you’ll still want to look incredible is to master the art of simple hair dos. If you want your hair up, try twisting one section from the front of your hair; once twisted, pin into place at the back your head. Repeat with the other side. Then take the remainder of your hair and tie a messy bun. It is an elegant look, simple and more importantly – QUICK! 3. Combat Alcohol (I know! Boooooo…..) it is the festive season after all! Your skin actually doesn’t. Alcohol dehydrates you and can leave your skin dry, grey and dull. To ensure your skin glows, despite the endless flow of alcohol over the festive period, your moisturizer won’t be enough. Instead invest in some cleansing milks that contain hyaluronic acid. You could also apply a brightening face mask. 4. Tired Eyes All those night partying it up and Wham! It is bound to leave even young eyes looking tired. To make sure you stay looking bright and alert over Christmas give yourself a little eye massage to get rid of puffy eyes. Begin at the corner of one of your eyes and work your way up, between your brow bone and your eye, rubbing as you go until you reach the outer edge of your eye. Repeat along your lower lash line. Also, be careful about where you apply your blusher as apply it too high can make you look tired. 5. Enjoy Yourself The most important tip of all…. Is to simply, ENJOY YOURSELF! It is the season to be merry and enjoy it being around the very people that brings you joy. Don’t weigh yourself too much on trying to make others happy – make it more about YOU. The thing is, right at the base of ensuring you’re looking your very best is that ‘you’re valuing yourself and your happiness’.

WHY SMART PRO DETAILING? We are not your average vacuum and wash shop. Our staff are motor enthusiasts, with a keen focus on delivering outstanding results for our clients, especially for the fussier ones who know exactly what they want. Established in 2014, master detailer Andy Smart and his team have been solidifying Smart Pro’s reputation as an industry leader in FNQ. We have invested in cutting-edge technology, so you can be sure your car will look nothing short of perfect once we have worked on it. We are meticulous when it comes to detailing and our staff will not be satisfied until your vehicle’s interior and exterior are spotless. Emphasizing quality over quantity, our dedicated team will treat your vehicle not simply as a job, but rather as a unique and exciting project. MEET ANDY, CAIRNS CAR DETAILER WITH A DIFFERENCE. Andy started his career eight years ago as a yardie, washing cars and doing general cleaning duties in one of Cairns car dealerships. After a while he was trained to do more advanced detailing jobs. “Lucky for me, my boss was so pedantic that the smallest mistake was always noticed and I learned the hard way that almost perfect is never good enough” says Andy. This approach stayed with him for many years and when he started his own detailing business, impeccable eye for quality and detail became Andy’s trademark. “It was hard at first to explain why we are different, however after a few months with social media publicity and great reviews from our clients, Smart Pro started to be recognized for its high quality services. There is always excitement after receiving a new interesting project, as some cars take days to complete. At Smart Pro we use the best of the best, taking appropriate time to finish each task to the highest standard. We always search for innovations, products and techniques to deliver outstanding results to our clients”- Andy says. MODESTA PAINT PROTECTION Keep your vehicle looking amazing in the long term with Modesta - currently the most exclusive premium automotive paint, wheel and leather protection products on the market. At Smart Pro in Cairns, we are proud to be one of the very few Modesta installers in Australia. The product is composed of a high-grade silicium, which creates a thick, glasslike layer over your vehicle’s paint. In addition to looking great, this layer serves as an incredibly strong barrier for repelling corrosion, oxidation, UV light, insects, bird droppings, as well as chemical and mechanical damage which may occur during every day washing. Modesta will make your vehicle far easier to clean, while maintaining strong protection from the elements. The products lasts 5-7 years on standard cars and up to 10 years on vehicles which are regularly maintained and well looked after. You can read more about the specific Modesta products and our services on our website and FB page. OUR REVIEWS “I love my cars and they are high end vehicles. I found Andy’s work to be a cut above all my experiences here in Cairns for over 30 years.” Joe V. “We asked Andy to do our Paint protection for our new car. He suggested we use Modesta. When we picked up the car we couldn’t believe how great it looked. It looked far better then the day we drove it out of the showroom.” Linda O. “We just had our vehicle detailed by Smart Pro, and the result was outstanding. Their attention to detail is above expectations and our car was returned like new.” Mark R. “Without a doubt this has been the best detailing job that I have seen.” Grant W. “Excellent attention to detail with results that exceed expectation. Recommended for prestige vehicles where quality cannot be compromised.” Doug S.
