Allocations are scheduled throughout the year based on activity. All those interested in regular access to recreation facilities are encouraged to participate in the facility allocation process. With the addition of the Festival Plaza changes have been made to the allocation periods for all recreation allocation spaces. Our user groups have been in close contact throughout the year and we continue to work with each group.

Bike Rack Design Competition

This September, the City of Fort St. John, in collaboration with the Fort St. John Arts Council, proudly announced the winners of the highly anticipated Bike Rack Design Competition. After receiving over 50 creative and innovative submissions, a blind jury carefully reviewed and selected 10 standout designs that are now set to enhance our community's streetscape. The winning designs are not just functional bike racks— they're works of art, reflecting the spirit and creativity of our vibrant city.

A CREATIVE CHALLENGE WITH BIG RESULTS

The competition, which attracted submissions from local designers, youth, artists, and community members, called for bike rack designs that would blend both aesthetics and practicality. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with a wide array of unique concepts ranging from nature-inspired forms to abstract and modern interpretations. After much deliberation, the jury selected 10 designs that stood out for their originality, feasibility, and alignment with the community's character.

FROM CONCEPT TO REALITY

Now, thanks to the talented team at Arctech Welding & Machining, these concepts are being transformed into tangible pieces of public art. Dave Diehl, co-owner of Arctech, provided the City with an exciting progress update on the project. So far, they’ve built 5 of the 10 desings, and will start the painting phase soon. For updates, follow the City of Fort St. John Recreation Facebook page: facebook.com/CityFSJRecreation.
