COMMUNITY Connecons benefit program Community
Grant Recipients
Books, Block Party and a Bulletin Board
Here are the inspired projects that have been funded in 2023. Take a look at the amazing neighbours helping neighbours in our community. Program remains open until funds are dispersed, APPLY TODAY!
Garrison Landing Block Party
In 2022, the inhabitants of Garrison Landing organized a local community barbecue to foster connections and strengthen relationships among neighbors. Building on this initiative, in 2023, they discovered the North Peace Community Foundation Grant and secured funding to sustain this tradition. Thanks to the support from NPCF, they enhanced the barbecue experience by incorporating activities tailored for young families, including a bouncy castle and face painting. The event proved to be a resounding success, attracting 50-60 community members. This gathering provided a platform for neighbors to forge new friendships and celebrate existing ones.
Lil' Library
Concerned about the alarming decline in literacy rates, a local mom and homeschool community member had a generous idea to create a book exchange for her neighbourhood. With a little help from one of her more building savvy neighbours, a lovely little library was erected in her yard. The neighbourhood is so pleased with the structure and looking forward too many years of stocking and enjoying their little library book exchange.
Princess Crescent Block Party
With the help of the benefit program, the newest member of Princess Crescent organized a successful block party. The initiative to host a barbecue aimed at fostering connections among neighbors was well-received. The event provided the perfect opportunity for residents to get outside and engage with one another. The gathering not only enhanced the sense of safety and security among neighbors but also mitigated feelings of loneliness, creating a supportive environment where individuals felt comfortable reaching out for assistance when needed.
Mackenzie Place Bulletin Board
Residing in a multi-unit complex fosters a unique sense of community, but with 68 units, effective communication can be a daunting task. The Strata Council at Mackenzie Place recognized the need to streamline community updates, and thus, the idea of a bulletin board was born. Identifying the post office boxes as a central hub where everyone routinely visits, a proactive resident took it upon themselves to construct and install a bulletin board next to the post office boxes. This initiative enables the Strata Council, residents, and local businesses to enhance the efficiency of disseminating important information, such as news updates, policies, business directories, community events, as well as buy and sell ads. In doing so, they aim to recreate the nostalgic atmosphere of an old-style city center, where townsfolk gather to discuss the pressing issues of the day.
