THIS BOOK BELONGS TO:

Today is a REALLY special day! Why? It’s because today you made a decision to ask Jesus to be the Leader and Forgiver of your life! That is a really big deal. It’s the biggest and best decision of your life! But why is that so important and what happens next? That is why you have this book. To help you in your next steps in your journey.

So here we go!

Who is Jesus??

When you prayed that prayer, you invited Jesus to be the Leader and Forgiver of your life! To be your friend. And Jesus is the best friend you could ever have! When you make a new friend, it’s important to get to know them. Here are some things you should know about Jesus.

Jesus is the Son of God (LUKE 1:35)

Jesus is perfect. Because Jesus is perfect that means He never made a mistake or a bad choice. Can you believe that?! (1 JOHN 3:5)

Nothing can separate you from His love. (ROMANS 8:38-39)

Jesus has forgiven all of your sins. (1 JOHN 1:9)

But wai t, what is sin?

Let’s star t wi t h t beginninghe.

A long, long time ago. God made everything! The stars in the sky, the grass under our feet, all the animals, and people too!

He created a very special place for people to live. This place was called the Garden of Eden. God wanted to be close to the people. He wanted to show them love and make sure they had everything they needed. The Garden of Eden that God created was perfect. Remember that word? But the people God created, Adam and Eve, started making bad choices. We call those bad choices, sin. They didn’t obey God. Sin separated God and the people He created.

Have you ever made a bad choice? How did it feel when your Mom, Dad, or maybe a teacher found out about that bad choice? Did you feel bad? Did you feel embarrassed? The first people who sinned felt so bad that they hid from God. They wanted to run away. The thing about sin is that it keeps us from being close to God.

What happens when you don’t listen to your parents? You probably get in trouble and you might even be punished. The punishment we get when we disobey God is being disconnected from Him. But God came up with a plan to bring us close to Him once again. God sent His son Jesus to come to Earth. And Jesus gave us the best gift. (John 3:16-17)

The Bible says that we all have sinned and made bad choices. We deserved to be punished for our choices, but Jesus took that punishment in our place. And He forgives us from our sin! The prayer that you prayed was asking Jesus to do just that. You are forgiven! That feels pretty good, doesn’t it?

When you prayed that prayer - you became a Christian - a part of God’s family! Which means that you’ll get to spend eternity with Jesus! In heaven everything is perfect just like God always wanted it to be before sin came in and made things a mess. How co ol is t hat?!?

WHO ARE YOU GOING TO TELL ABOUT THIS DECISION YOU JUST MADE?

Christian? What ’ s A

You’re a Christian now but what does that mean? A Christian is someone who follows and obeys Jesus. The word means, “Little Christ”. Being a Christian means that our lives should look like Jesus.

Jesus was really good at loving people. That means we should love people!

Jesus helped people who were poor and sick. That means we should help people who are poor and sick. Jesus is our leader and we should follow His example.

If you want to be like someone, you have to spend time with them. Spending time with Jesus is an important part of your new life as a Christian. Jesus is your friend and He wants you to talk to Him. Prayer is just talking to God. It may seem a little hard to do since we can’t see Him or touch Him, but talking with Jesus is a great way to become more like Him.

You can talk to God out loud or say your prayers silently. You can close your eyes and bow your head or not. There’s no right or wrong way to pray. God just wants you to talk to Him about everything in your life. You can let Him know what you’re thinking. You can talk to Him about things that you need. You can even just tell Him how much you love Him.

GOD HEARS OUR VOICES WHEN WE ASK FOR THINGS THAT FIT HIS PLAN.

- 1 JOHN 5:14

NEVER STOP PRAYING, ESPECIALLY FOR OTHERS.

The Bible

Another way to connect with Jesus is by reading the Bible. The Bible is called the Word of God. THE BIBLE IS GOD’S MESSAGE TO US. There are so many awesome stories in the Bible. We can learn a lot about Jesus from reading the Bible. The Bible also tells us how much God loves us and has the best plan for how to live our lives.

The Bible is a big book. But you don’t have to read it all at once. That would take a really long time! You can start by reading for just a few minutes every day. The fun thing about reading the Bible is that you don’t have to start at the beginning. The book of Mark is a really good place to start!

DO YOU HAVE A BIBLE? IF NOT, MAKE SURE TO COME AND TALK TO ONE OF YOUR LEADERS AND LET THEM KNOW YOU NEED ONE, AND THEY WILL GET YOU ONE FOR FREE!

The whole Bible was given to us from God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives; it straightens us out and helps us do what is right.

- 2 TIMOTHY 3:16

The ChurchGod’ s Family

It can be a little scary to start something new. But following Jesus is not something you have to do all on your own. You can come together with other people who love Jesus too. This is what we call church. Church isn’t just a building you go to. The church is made up of people who love Jesus, just like you!

Coming to church is a great place to learn more about Jesus. Church is a place where you find out what living like a Christian should look like. When we come together it makes our faith stronger. You can meet and make friends with awesome people who love Jesus too!

John 14:6

JESUS TOLD HIM, “I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE.” NO ONE CAN COME TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH ME.

Holy Spiri t

One of the coolest things that happened when you asked Jesus to be the Leader and Forgiver of your life is that He gave you the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is our Helper and Teacher. But the Holy Spirit doesn’t teach us things like math and spelling. The Holy Spirit will tell you when something is right, or not right. The Holy Spirit gives you the strength and courage to make good decisions! The Holy Spirit will remind us of God’s Word and help us live our very best life for Jesus.

(Romans 8:26)

BaptismGoing Public

Choosing to follow Jesus is a really exciting thing. You are a new person now that Jesus is the Leader and Forgiver of your life. One of the next steps is taking it public, sharing this amazing decision that you made with the people around you. One of the ways we do this is by being water baptized. It shows everyone on the outside that we made this really big decision on the inside. The Bible tells us that even Jesus was water baptized which means it’s an important thing for us to do once we become Christians.

A NOTE TO PARENTS -

We believe it’s important for children to be of a cognitive age when making the decision to be water baptized, so they fully understand the significance of this next step in their faith. For more information on children being water baptized, please reach out to kids@cityfirst.church.

Telling People About Your New Friend

JESUS IS REALLY GOOD! TOO GOOD TO KEEP TO OURSELVES.

Everyone should hear about all the awesome things Jesus has done for us. It’s your turn to tell other people about Him.

That can seem kind of scary but it’s actually really simple! Just tell others about what Jesus has done in your life! Tell them about the time you asked Jesus to be in your life. Tell them how you have fun learning about Him in church, and how He wants to be their friend too.

If they would like to become a Christian, ask them to pray the prayer on the next page with you.

Prayer Of Salvation

“Dear God, I know I’m a sinner. Please forgive me. I believe that Jesus died for my sins. I want Jesus to be the Leader and Forgiver of my life. I want to follow Him and obey Him. Thank you for coming into my life and being my friend forever. Amen.”

You Are Who God Says You Are!

Now that you’ve made the decision to follow Jesus, you are a part of God’s Family! The Bible calls all Christ-followers, a child of God!
