8. Avoid hiking alone.

While it is generally okay to hike alone along well-trodden and busy trails, it’s not safe to go alone on long and lesser visited trails. Have at least one companion with you and inform a loved one about where you are heading to.

9. Make use of technological aids.

When out hiking, it's good to have a hiking app like Strava or AllTrails running on your phone as it will give you an orientation of where you are going and an opportunity to backtrack if you get lost. When attempting a long hike, bring along a power bank as well, as it might be useful in case your phone runs out of charge.
