The Hearst Center’s 2016 classroom renovations were made possible in part by grants from the Black Hawk County Gaming Association, the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa, and the Iowa Arts Council, with additional funds from Thursday Painters and donors to the 2015 and 2016 Annual Campaigns.

YOUTH MISCELLANEOUS Independent Study Ceramics Studio Passes

Independent study includes access to clay studio, firing, and use of glazes. Nature Photography Workshop

Just in time for beautiful fall colors and wildlife!

Learn the basic camera settings and composition Appreciate the Impressionists that are used in nature photography. Raku

Raku is finding happiness in life’s accidents, translating to ease and comfort. In raku firing, all of nature’s elements are used—earth, fire, air, and water. Take part in this exciting process; you never know what you will get!

Art Journaling

Art Portfolio Preparation

Perfect for recent high school graduates! Be a step ahead of everyone else. Have your portfolio reviewed & strengthened to be prepared for college! Students should bring at least 10 separate art pieces to show of varying mediums and an artist statement about their work.

This class will guide students to create their own hand-made journal; combining words and images.

All skill levels are welcome. Every class is a new experience! The skills learned in this workshop can be used to make journals, guest books, sketch books, and other bodies of work. Have fun making a piece of art that can travel with you!

Don’t wait! We encourage you to register yourself and your family early to ensure a reservation in classes and workshops. Programs not meeting the minimum requirement one week before the start date are subject to cancellation and registered participants are notified.

Unless otherwise indicated, minimum enrollment for children’s classes is three and the minimum enrollment for adults’ classes is five. Registration for a program is accepted until the day that program begins if it is not cancelled.

• A handling fee of $10 for all refunds applies.

• No fee is charged if a course is canceled by the Hearst Center due to low enrollment.

• No fee is charged if a participant transfers to another class when the request is made at least seven days before the class begins.
