Talent Police Department A Year in Review 2022

Message from the Chief-

I am pleased to present the Talent Police Department 2022 Annual Report. It is impossible to encompass public safety in a brief document; this report highlights our department’s efforts to engage and support the community and to summarize our overall commitment.

We can provide these valuable services to our community because of continued support from our city leaders and the community.

Talent Police is made up of 8 sworn officers, 3 non-sworn employees and 1 volunteer. It is an honor to work with the dedicated and professional staff within the Talent Police Department and to serve you each day. On behalf of our officers, professional staff, and volunteers, we look forward to continued partnerships to provide the best possible service to our residents and community.

Mission Statement

The Talent Police Department provides police services to our citizens and to visitors of our City. The services we provide help to protect the safety of all persons and their property. Our services work to solve community problems to enhance the quality of life for all. It is our mission to help citizens feel safe in the City of Talent

Vision Statement

All persons who encounter a member of the Talent Police Department will come away from that interaction with a positive impression of that member, the Talent Police Department, and of the City of Talent. Our contacts with citizens will result in an impression that we are courteous, professional, competent, and successful at helping them solve problems.

School Resource Officer

Sergeant Ken Lehman

For the 4th year we have had a contract with the Phoenix-Talent School District enabling us to have an SRO at Talent Middle School. Sergeant Lehman is in his second year at the school and has engaged in many hours of relationship building, safety

Prescription Drop Box

The prescription deposit box (located inside the Talent Police Department Lobby) ensured 137.4 pounds of medication were destroyed correctly and kept away from children, out of our water supply, landfills & waste treatment systems.

TPD officers wore pink name tags in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Community Programs

• Helmets for Ice Cream Partnered with Rays

• Held our first raffle and gave away emergency kits

• Bike Helmets purchased by Star Towing

• Donated unclaimed bikes and new helmets to Familia Unida Bike Builders to support their outreach program

• Provided Free gun locks in the lobby

• Created our Social Media Page

PERSONNEL & RECRUITMENT

In the first quarter of 2022 we had four officers on staff and by the end of 2022 we are fully staffed at 8 sworn. This enabled us to return to 24-hour patrols December 2022.

Ofc. Carnighan was recognized for 15 years of service to the Talent Community.

Training

Our ongoing partnership with Ashland PD has enabled us to obtain high quality training, allowing us to meet the requirements mandated by the state as well as department polices.

Assists

Talent Police Officers administered 8 lifesaving doses of Naloxone in 2022.

Sex Offender Registrations

Talent Police Records registered 14 offenders throughout the course of the year. In late 2022, Talent Police Officers began conducting compliance checks on locally registered offenders. Out of nine checks, 4 offenders were found to be out of compliance. Warrants were requested and granted via the District Attorney’s Office.
