Orinda Teen Advisory Council (OTAC) Join the Orinda Teen Advisory Council (grades 6–12) and provide input about teens, develop programs and events, and perform community service projects. OTAC provides input to the City of Orinda and Orinda City Council. OTAC meets the first Monday of each month at 4:00 pm, at the Orinda Community Center (September–June). Join at any time! OTAC members also have the opportunity to work with other teens and teen councils in the Lamorinda area.

Pre-Ballet: Ballet leotard, pink The Orinda Ballet Academy and Youth Company was founded in 2009, by Artistic Director, tights, pink leather ballet slippers.

Patricia Tomlinson. Orinda Ballet is a year round Ballet Academy and youth performing company No tutus. (Skirts allowed only by based in the Orinda Community Center. Offering classes for students aged 3–18 years, starting approval of class teacher). Hair with the Pre-Ballet through advanced pre-professional divisions. Pilates reformer and combo jazz and tap classes are offered. Summer terms hold a demonstration performance. (no sparkles), pink tights, and pink Placement/approval required for class levels 2B and above. Performers dancing solo/principal leather ballet slippers (pointe shoes roles will require private lessons. Contact Artistic Director, Patricia Tomlinson, to schedule an as required). Skirts allowed only by appointment. See schedule for specific class and company rehearsal days and times. Times approval of class teacher. subject to change. Missed classes may be made-up within a four-week period during session.

Make-up classes are any classes within level or below. Missing more than four classes in a term may effect performance role/s. Fees are for entire session. Additional Performance & Costume Rental Fee required. See ballet level for the specific fees. These are not included in tuition/registration fee. Make separate check payable to Orinda Ballet Academy. Emergency forms must be completed and turned in before the first class meeting. Emergency Forms are available at the front desk or online at orindaballetacademy.com Ms. Tomlinson has over 30 years of professional dancing, and instructing experience. Her background includes training in NYC under George Balanchine’s world-renown “School of American Ballet.” Ms. Tomlinson’s performing career began early as a student in NYC, performing with NYC Ballet and Natalia Markova’s company. Her extensive professional dancing career includes working as a soloist and principal dancer with Houston Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Diablo Ballet, as well as guesting in various companies. She has taught and set Ballets throughout the United States. She is also a certified Pilate’s trainer in all equipment. Ms. Tomlinson takes great pleasure in working with her students and sharing her passion of ballet and dance.

A parent/child class. Much of a child’s early learning comes through physical activity. Kindergym offers range-of-movement exploration activities where children climb, hang, jump, balance and bounce. In this healthy environment, the parent offers positive, encouraging, and helpful feedback. A skilled staff member is always on hand to assist. The equipment is rearranged each week to provide a new challenge. Parents are required to have infants in packs. Siblings are only allowed in class if registered. Child must be walking. Prior to participation, a Hold Harmless form and information sheet must be completed.

Kindergym Plus offers 40 minutes of individual Kindergym time, plus 10–15 minutes of extended circle time, including singing, finger play, and reading a story. The age limit is flexible, but to fully utilize this class it is important the child feel comfortable with 10 minutes of organized activity. A Hold Harmless form must be completed and information sheet must be completed prior to participation.

Judo, ‘the way of gentleness’, is a modern sport based on Jujitsu, the traditional Japanese art of self-defense. Orinda Youth Soccer is a recreational league which introduces players to the fundamentals of soccer and gives them the opportunity to develop their skills. Teams are randomly selected and everyone plays at least half of every game. Practices are once a week and are held on weekday afternoons. Games are played on Saturdays. The U5-U10 Divisions feature small-sided games.

Small-sided games help younger players get more involved in each game, sharpen their skills and develop confidence in their abilities.

We need your help and invite you to be a part of your child’s experience by becoming a head or assistant coach. Watch the children develop sportsmanship, improve their skills, make new friends, and have fun. Coaches also get priority on roster requests. All coaches are required to complete the Live Scan (fingerprinting) procedure. Each coach that completes an online certification training provided by NYSAA (through NAYS.org) or attends an in-person training will receive a 40% refund on their child’s registration (limit one refund per coach).

We teach you how to motivate your dog to want to learn the basics of heel, sit, and down. We teach how to shape the leave it and come commands, and the command wait to prevent your dog from bolting through doors. Taiko is the art of Japanese drumming, which develops selfexpression and musical creativity. You’ll be introduced to the kinds and uses of Taiko drums, and sounds of various beats, as well as Japanese expressions. Everyone participates on actual drums each class. This class requires a specific discipline to practice Taiko, which includes practicing bare-footed, no food or drink, no jewelry of any type, no open discussions about unrelated topics during the class. Program teaches practical self-defense (not fighting) through games, friendly competition, and discipline, as well as escaping, grappling, and throwing techniques. One of the most versatile and effective methods of unarmed self-defense, Aiki-jujitsu is the basis for many martial arts systems found today.

Come and learn to play traditional ukulele music of the 20s and 30s, including Hawaiian, Tin Pan Alley, blues, and period novelty songs. Learn chords and strumming by playing and singing along with other ukulele players in a supportive environment. The class offers something for students at all skill levels. This class begins with two and three chord songs in the basic keys, using simple strumming patterns. Some basic ukulele skills are recommended. Extra help is available for new students. The emphasis is on learning by playing. A ukulele is required.

Meet at the Hacienda de las Flores, 2100 Donald Dr., Moraga

During the tense years of the Cold War, the United States Army built and operated close to 300 Nike missile sites in the United States. These sites were designed as the last line of defense against Soviet bombers. Today, a dedicated group of volunteers works in partnership with the Golden Gate National Recreation Area on the continuous task of restoration at site SF-88L, the only fully restored Nike missile site in the country. This museum is an enduring reminder of the Cold War and allows visitors to reflect upon the realities of the Cold War and their influence on today’s society. Your knowledgeable volunteer guide will tell you about the history and the amazing building of the Nike Missile, how they arrived, assembled and stored. This tour will involve some light walking (no hills, some steps) to various outbuildings on the site. A boxed lunch will be provided to enjoy after the tour in the picnic areas at the site.
