BEGINNING IN 2018...

Facility Preservation Fee On May 2, 2017, the Orinda City Council approved the Facility Preservation Fee. This is an administrative fee similar to the existing Per Player Fee for Sports Leagues in which a 3% charge will be added to each department transaction (excluding sports facility rentals). The funds generated by this fee will be used exclusively for the maintenance and preservation of non-sports specific recreation facilities, particularly the Orinda Community Center, and help supplement the limited resources available in the General Fund.

The Orinda Community Center was built in 1925 and has experienced periods of renovation through the years. However, we have experienced several decades of deferred maintenance and several building amenities have reached, or are nearing, the end of their useful lives, including the roof, the windows, the HVAC systems, and much of the flooring. And as more time passes, the more costly the projects will be. Although Orinda’s current economic state cannot support the entire cost of the maintenance, the City is committed to improving energy efficiency and is working with agencies that can provide assistance with design, implementation, and financing.

ORINDA TEEN ADVISORY COUNCIL (OTAC) OTAC is a fun, welcoming, teen driven community service organization. Each year OTAC members host special events for teens, work closely with the City of Orinda and City Council on teen issues, and provides community service throughout the Lamorinda area. If you’re looking to make new friends, impact your community, and have fun the Orinda Teen Advisory Council is the club for you. Meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 4:00 pm, at the Orinda Community Center. Teens are welcome to join anytime. Founded in 2009, by Artistic Director, Patricia Tomlinson. Orinda Ballet is a year-round Ballet Academy and youth performing company based in the Orinda Community Center.

Offering classes for students aged 3–18 years, starting with the Pre-Ballet through advanced pre-professional divisions. All students have the opportunity to participate in the bi-annual performances of “The Sweet Dream Nutcracker” (Fall term) and Spring term story ballet (past productions: “Cinderella,” “Sleeping Beauty,” “Swan Lake,” “Alice in Wonderland,” “Coppelia” and “Peter Pan”). Summer terms hold a demonstration performance.

Ms. Tomlinson has over 30 years of professional dancing and instructing experience. She Ballet 7* 16Y+ Adv./Pre-Professional trained in NYC under George Balanchine’s world-renown “School of American Ballet.” Her *Instructor placement required. career began as a student, performing with NYC Ballet and Natalia Markova’s company. Her professional dancing career includes working as a soloist and principal dancer with Houston Ballet, Pennsylvania Ballet, Diablo Ballet, as well as guesting in various companies. She has taught and set Ballets throughout the US, and is a certified Pilate’s trainer in all equipment. She takes great pleasure in working with her students and sharing her passion of ballet and dance.

Make-up classes are any classes within level or below. Missing more than four classes in a term may effect performance role/s. Fees are for entire session. Additional Performance & Costume Rental Fee required. See ballet level for the specific fees.

Ages 4–8Y

Kids ’N Dance

Children on all abilities are invited to be a part of our polished productions of musicals that are fun, challenging, and engaging.

Self-esteem skyrockets as members learn to develop character, vocal technique, presentation, and dance skills. Participants are expected to independently study their lines, songs, blocking, and attend all rehearsals. Most costumes are supplied, but parents are required to provide the basics. Show days and times are subject to change. Parents are asked to volunteer 2–4 hours helping with set up/break down, backstage, or bringing scenery back to Oakland. You may pay a $65 parent helper opt-out if you do not have time to help. There will also be a fee for show tickets. No refunds once program begins. Plays for ages 4–8 last approximately 40 minutes with about 4–6 songs, and the children may be prompted during the play if needed. We do not hold formal auditions with the 4–8 group. The process is low key and designed to be fun. Teachers will invite anyone to sing a song on their own but it is not a requirement. Everyone will get a part whether they sing alone or not. Plays for ages 6–10 last approximately 50 minutes with about 6–8 songs. Plays for ages 8–14 last approximately 1 hour 15 minutes with about 10–12 songs. Participants of the older groups are expected to independently study their lines, songs, blocking, as scheduled and to attend all rehearsals.

The Mad Science Secret Agent Camp is a fun journey into the world of detection, spy science, and forensics. Developmental League Basketball Grades K–1 The Developmental Basketball League is designed to introduce young players to the fundamentals of the sport in a fun, beginner friendly, non-competitive environment. Each week players learn the fundamentals and develop teamwork through 30 minutes of practice followed by a 30 minute scrimmage against another team. Scrimmages are played 5v5. Each player receives an Orinda Sports Leagues Basketball T-Shirt at the start of the season. All practices and games are held Saturdays.

Orinda Youth Soccer is a recreational league which introduces players to the fundamentals of soccer and gives them the opportunity to develop their skills. Become an Orinda Youth Coach, Get 40% Off! We need your help! Each season, Orinda Youth Sports are driven by dedicated parent volunteer coaches. This season, we’re looking for enthusiastic, experienced, responsible parent volunteers to coach their child’s team(s). Coaching is a great way to help children develop sportsmanship, improve their skills, make new friends, and have fun falling love with sports and play.

All coaches receive a 40% refund for each team they coach (limit 1 refund per team coached) and priority on roster requests.

Youth Basketball League Grades 2–5 The Orinda Youth Basketball League exposes players to fundamentals of the sport and lets them hone their skills through game play. Players learn the game of basketball in a fun, fastpaced, team oriented, and positive environment. Teams have one practice and one game per week for eight weeks. All players play at least half of every game. Each player needs to bring their own ball to each practice.

Beginning Obedience is the foundation for all training goals. We teach you how to motivate your dog to want to learn the basics of heel, sit, and down. We teach how to shape the leave it and come commands, and the command wait to prevent your dog from bolting through doors. Tennis Levels: Beginner: Designed for those with little or no background playing tennis. Course introduces fundamental strokes (forehand, backhand, serve, and net play); rules, scoring, and court play etiquette. Advanced Beginner: Understands grips, ground strokes and can begin to control the serve. Emphasis on technique, doubles strategy, and movement on the court. Intermediate: Players have a basic understanding of the game, can sustain a rally, and have a serve that exhibits some control, but are in need of a second serve. The USTA will rate you under 4.0 but above 3.0. Advanced: Good consistency, hits with depth and control, serve well (including a good spin second serve), good overhead shots, and feels comfortable at the net.

The USTA will rate the advanced player a 4.0 and over. $10 material (ball) fee payable to instructor at first class.

If you are searching for a room that offers great natural light for a small business meeting, then Sarge Littlehale is the optimal location for you. Walking distance from BART, this room is connected to City Hall, located at 22 Orinda Way, which is a LEED Certified Building that includes sunflower husk tabletops and corkboard floors. One of the appealing features for this space is the ability to connect your laptop to a touch screen that will transmit your presentation to the two TV screens mounted to the walls. Sarge Littlehale is roughly 526 square feet and is able to accommodate 49 people seated in assemblystyle or 21 for dining.
