Fort Pierce Civic Pride Our Mothers’ Village joined the adopta-road program to show their appreciation, pride and commitment they have in keeping Fort Pierce beautiful. In helping to clean up their community, they hope to inspire others to do the same. They also involved the youth to teach them

the importance of keeping their communities clean. They hope that their clean up of 25th Street between Avenue D and Orange Avenue will serve as a reminder to residents and visitors not to litter and show civic pride to our community.

Santa

Cop Event

The night of December 15 was truly a fantastic night at the Fort Pierce Police Department! That is because we held our annual “Santa Cop” event where we gave out thousands of toys and close to 90 bicycles to excited children from area families. “Santa Cop” strives to spread holiday cheer into the households of many families in our community. But it would not be possible without the help of those who opened their hearts and wallets and donated thousands of toys. Those generous donors included Above

New Attainable Workforce Housing A groundbreaking ceremony was held for a new attainable workforce housing development on December 12, 2023. City officials, the developers, and some of the future homeowners were on hand to celebrate this historic event. Oaks at Moore’s Creek Phase II will consist of 15 single-family homes built along Means Court, between Avenue B and Moore’s Creek. Under a public-private partnership between the City of Fort Pierce, the Fort Pierce Redevelopment Agency, and the developer, OMC II, LLC, the city completed the road and infrastructure, the FPRA conveyed the land to the developers, and the developers will construct the homes. Phase II will provide four different residential models to first-time home buyers. The models are all three-bedroom, two-bath6

room homes ranging in size from 1200 to 1700 square feet. The homes will be priced between $289,000 and $349,000 and will be sold to first-time homebuyers who meet certain income requirements. “To understand what’s about to transpire when you change the lives, 15 different families will be changed as a result of this housing development,” said District 1 Commissioner Curtis Johnson, Jr., a native of Fort Pierce. “I, too, am a person whose parents made an investment in a house and that house put two kids through college and one through law school.” Construction of the first four residences will begin in January 2024. More information about the development can be found by visiting Oaks at Moore’s Creek II | East to West (etwdc.org)

3180 S JENKINS ROAD Phase two of Fort Pierce West KOA Holiday is underway. Due to the large size of the site, underground plumbing and electric is being installed in phases to allow for the work to be completed, inspected, and covered so that the rain won’t wash the dirt back into the trenches prior to installation and/or inspections of the underground utilities. Individual RV sites are being staked out in preparation for paving once all underground utilities are installed and inspected.

SHOP

with a Cop

December 1 was one of our favorite days of the year! It was Shop with a Cop time and that meant children from our community had a wonderful time shopping with some of our officers and civilian personnel at the Walmart on Okeechobee Road in Fort Pierce. Needless to say, smiles were aplenty as excited children made their way down the aisles looking for the perfect gifts. We’d like to thank everyone who participated in this fun-filled event. And a special thanks goes to the great folks at Walmart for their support and for hosting this special event.

Sunrise Theatre Holiday Cheer

December was a month filled with holiday cheer, laughter, and packed shows. A few sold-out shows kicked things off, drawing crowds downtown to enjoy shows like Three Dog Night, Allman Betts Family Revival, and the hilarious act from Christmas with the Ricardo’s. The Theatre is looking forward to 2024 as the calendar is stacked with various artists and performances from January through April. Thanks again to the Sunrise Theatre Foundation for the opportunity for over 1100 children from 8 different schools to dress up in holiday apparel to enjoy the school-time performance, the Nutcracker. It was a holiday treat for the kids as they were filled with awe while the dancers performed the classic holiday play. 16

JANUARY 2024

The Sunrise Theatre Foundation goals are to bring the theater experience of the performing arts to children of the Treasure Coast and to support improvements to the Sunrise that will enhance the Theatre to help fulfill its purpose within the community. Last fiscal year, the Sunrise Theatre Foundation and the Sunrise Theatre brought in over 5000 youth to experience school time performances, summer camp, and various shows. The Sunrise Theatre honored our 200 volunteers with an annual Christmas Party as a thank you for all that they do. It is because of them that our excellence in service to our patrons exists. Every greeter, usher, or bartender that you meet is a volunteer. On show nights they work on average 6 hours stocking the bars, serving, greeting people, and checking tickets. It truly takes a village, and we couldn’t do it without their dedicated service to the Sunrise Theatre.

Indian Hills Golf Course Now that 2023 is behind us, we hope you all have had a wonderful holiday season and we look forward to seeing everyone back for a healthy, happy 2024. We wish to thank all of our staff, members and our guests for helping those in need in our community!! Through our annual Thanksgiving Golf Outing and our food drive, we were able to raise $500 in cash and almost 400 pounds of food for the Treasure Coast Food Bank this year. We also collected over 300 toys for the Toys for Tots program!!!

20

JANUARY 2024

We have had a fantastic start to the new Fiscal Year with Revenues in excess of $60,000 more than last year’s OctoberNovember. Mother Nature has certainly been cooperative with us this Fall with warmer temperatures and a significant amount of rain! With any luck, these conditions will continue as they help us improve the course conditions on an almost daily basis as we focus on the health of the turf on the fairways.

CITY MANAGER’S REPORT

Our greens are probably in as good a condition as they have been in a long time!! From a maintenance standpoint, we’ve been aggressively spraying weeds and have changed our fertilization program to bi-weekly liquid applications along with a monthly organic granular application. The liquid fertilizer provides instant food to the plant and the organic granular will help to provide nutrients to the sub layer which consists of mainly sand.

Word of mouth is our greatest form of advertising, so we ask if you’ve played here and enjoyed the changes we’re making, please tell a friend….or two! We thank all of our members and guests for their support, and we ask that you please “Like” and “Follow Us” on Facebook or Instagram to see almost daily updates on the golf course and our ongoing maintenance projects.

The Fort Pierce Animal Adoption Center presents

Grinch Unde

Following the theme for this year’s Christmas parade – Christmas Under the Sea – the Fort Pierce Animal Adoption Center took the Grinch and friends for a ride on his specially modified boat motor powered sleigh! Along for the ride were six of our adoptable dogs and several of the children of the adoption center staff. Of course, everyone knows that you can’t have a Grinch without his good buddy Max and two of our dogs, Anastasia (a 3-month-old Mal Shepherd mix) and Zoos (a 6-year-old red nose pit mix), got to play the leading role and

sit on the float next to Cindy Lou Who! While Anastasia/Max loved the special seat, it was clear to see that Zoos/Max was a pro at playing the part. He loved the “reindeer antler” and kept it on his head almost the whole time! The staff, kids, and volunteers all had a great time waving to the crowds and passing out candy to the many people lining the parade route. And the dogs were amazing – enjoying the beautiful day out of the shelter and seeing all the people.

This could not have been possible without the help from Public Works who built the sleigh, the Community Response staff and the many dedicated volunteers who helped decorate it, walk the dogs, and give out candy along the route. Also, a big shout out to Central High School photography club member Amanda Baez who took photos of the big event!

UPDATE: Anastasia (Max #1) and Zoos (Max #2) were both adopted and went home for the holidays!! Congratulations to both the Alves and Bieri families!!
