YELLOW MOON TOUR KICKS OFF AT FRINGE FESTIVAL TAG’s smash-hit play written by David Greig had a sell out run at the Citizens’ last Autumn and will now play at the Traverse Theatre as part of their Edinburgh Festival Fringe programme before going on tour. If you missed it last time round, make sure you get booked up early for when it returns to the Citizens’ this September – it’s going to be a hot ticket!

KIDS@CITZ CLASSES EXPAND Our weekly drama classes for children and young people, KIDS@CITZ now cover an even wider age range from 4 – 15 year olds, ensuring our weekends are packed with eager young faces. It’s all part of our commitment to giving children and young people the opportunity to be actively involved in the creative life of our theatre. Along with our already established YOUNG Co. and Community Company, we hope they will grow up with life-long connections to the performing arts. Find out more on p15.

LONDON CALLING Not content with getting tongues wagging just in Scotland, the Citizens’ has been gaining attention south of the border too with two productions transferring to London. Tom Fool enjoyed a successful run at The Bush Theatre where it garnered more 4 and 5 star reviews in the national press and the epic staging of both parts of Tony Kushner’s Angels In America toured England, ﬁnishing with a 5 week run at the Lyric Hammersmith in London.

NATIONAL THEATRE OF SCOTLAND SNAPS UP MOLLY SWEENEY Having won two CATS awards in 2006 – Best Female Performance for Cara Kelly and Best Direction for Gregory Thompson – our production of Molly Sweeney has been snapped up by the NTS Ensemble for a Scottish tour which ends at the Citizens’ in December.

PETER PAN COMES TO THE GORBALS In keeping with Citizens’ tradition, our Education department will be visiting local schools and nurseries this winter offering a free drama workshop based on our Christmas Show, Peter Pan. But this year, thanks to the support of community regeneration consultants Hall Aitken, we are not only visiting all primary and state nursery schools, but inviting them to see the show for just £1 a ticket! Manager of the Year, Manager of the Decade, OBE, CBE... Alex Ferguson’s official accolades only tell half the story of the great man who has become one of the most iconic names in British football. Born in Govan on New Year’s Eve to a working class family, his leadership skills first came to the fore as a shop steward in the Clyde shipyards. His first love however, has always been football. One of the most successful managers in the history of the British sport, winning more trophies than any other manager, Ferguson is also one of the longest serving managers, having been in charge of Manchester United for more than 20 years. Whether it is the footballer, the manager, author or just the man you admire, this event is set to be a fascinating insight into one of Scotland’s most revered and celebrated sons.

Restaurateur, entrepreneur and celebrity chef, Nick Nairn has been a cook of many hats over the past 20 years. He started his career working in the Merchant Navy, but a passion for cooking soon led him to open his ﬁrst restaurant and by 1991 he was Scotland’s youngest chef ever to be awarded a Michelin star. Now one of Scotland’s most popular ﬁgures, he is familiar to many due to his numerous television appearances, particularly as the co-presenter of popular BBC2 show, Ready Steady Cook. An inspirational speaker and colourful entertainer, Nick will be sharing stories and anecdotes from his fascinating career.

SIR JOHN MORTIMER MORTIMER’S MISCELLANY WEDNESDAY 5 SEPTEMBER, 7.30PM ALL TICKETS £12 Sir John Mortimer – barrister, playwright, creator of Rumpole, and author of numerous ﬁlm scripts including Tea with Mussolini – is a masterful raconteur. In the company of some ﬁne actors and musicians, Sir John presents a wry, witty and sideways look at life in this memorable show packed with stories, anecdotes from the legal world, poetry, music, the words of Byron, Auden, Hardy and even a few newspaper articles about bizarre real-life murders. Accompanied with poignant and hilarious memories of his childhood from A Voyage Around My Father, Mortimer’s Miscellany is sometimes serious, sometimes sexy, occasionally sad and mostly funny, woven together with music and delivered with relish and a little devilment.

MAIRI HEDDERWICK CHILDREN’S STORYTELLING SATURDAY 8 SEPTEMBER, 11AM ALL TICKETS £6 An ideal show for families who love the Katie Morag books. Mairi Hedderwick, acclaimed illustrator and captivating storyteller, is best known for her Katie Morag children’s stories. First published in 1984, they continue to be hugely popular with new generations of children and have been adapted into a TV series. The island world of Katie Morag is loosely based on Mairi’s own experiences of life on the Hebridean Isle of Coll where she took her ﬁrst job as a mother’s help at the age of 17. Thus began a life-long love affair with islands and small communities bounded by the sea which has continued to inﬂuence her writing and illustrations. In this rare storytelling session, Mairi will recount more of Katie Morag’s riveting adventures, accompanied as always by her loyal travel companion, Katie Morag’s teddy.

William Roache is one of Britain’s most recognisable actors and the longest serving in soap opera, Coronation Street. He has appeared continuously since the ﬁrst episode in 1960 – a feat which got him into the Guinness Book of Records. He is also a member of the Druid order and has celebrated the Summer Solstice at Stonehenge. Hear his on and off screen stories in this revealing and personal talk.

Eugene O’Neill reportedly imagined Desire Under the Elms in its entirety one night as he slept, and the play has the passion and intensity of a fever dream. Our weekly drama classes for children and young people have been a huge hit since they were launched at the start of the year. So we’ve expanded to meet demand with new classes on Sundays and we now cover a wider age range.

This show is part of the ﬁrst national tour of the play since its celebrated performances in London, New York and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with leading Irish actor Peter Dineen reprising his critically acclaimed performance as the Dublin critic.

When she was a girl, her father taught her to recognise by touch every ﬂower, shrub and tree in their walled garden so that she was at ease with her world. When Molly marries the unemployed Frank, they embark on a relentless campaign to restore her sight and their determination results in them paying a wonderful and terrible price.

The National Theatre of Scotland, in association with the Citizens’ Theatre, brings the revival of this acclaimed masterpiece back to its original home as part of a national tour, having ﬁrst been presented at the Citizens’ in December 2005. Created by Brian Friel, one of Ireland’s foremost playwrights, this most thought-provoking of modern dramas packs an enormous emotional punch.
