“I met Giti Kooshkani at her La Jolla, CA storefront. I was exploring La Jolla by the sea and my wandering led me to GK Fashion House’s front steps. When I looked through her windows, I was immediately inspired by her designs, her fabrics, and the colors. It all was so vibrant and intricate. As I looked closer, I saw her fashion drawings on the wall. Her photography and her vintage jewelry were stunning. Her collections evoked my vintage heart and soul. After meeting Giti, I asked to take some photos of her collection to paint, which she generously allowed. I was inspired by her beauty and her humility. I didn’t realize how renowned she is, and my chance encounter inspired me to hurry back to Charlotte with more colors and visions to paint. All of her paintings were musically inspired by, Big Brovaz “Favourite Things”.”

“How lucky am I that Picasso’s exhibit came to Charlotte. This awakening from the pandemic was magically placed in my life. It was the first indoor event I attended with my girlfriends since the years of COVID, my first step back to normal. The exhibit offered photography, videos, music, and the simple beauty of being alive. It reignited my love of Europe and my yearning to travel as I took in his paintings from Spain and France. I went to the exhibit at least a half dozen times, and each visit inspired me to paint. Musically and, in a weird way, I synchronized and paired the Out of Bounds exhibit with our old friend and sage, Jimmy Buffett’s Book on the Shelf. The lyrics touched me and moved my brushes.”

“My inspiration originates from our travels, landscapes, as well as, relationships and memories. The pandemic stole this from all of our lives, temporarily. As with most things in life, when they are taken away from us, it creates a yearning.”

“When we travel, we make it our goal to find the ideal location that speaks to our souls. This makes the immersion into the area, the culture, the music and the magic unforgettable. It is the fabric of the adventure that you are hoping to create for your family. When I reminisce about our travels to Cinque Terre, Monteroso al Mare and Porto Roca, I am absolutely engulfed in the emotional state that the memories conjure up.

I can feel our happiness and love. I can smell the food, the coffee and the prosecco. Our daughter swings by the Mediterranean pool in her red bikini. Tom and Aiden floating in the ocean like human bobbers. An old man handing out lemonade on the hiking trail to Vernazza. Wonderful memories of our spirits flying together, etched in time. I could smell the sea and feel the sky as I painted to “Into the Mystic”.”

“My life was interrupted when I was blindsided with breast cancer in January 2023.

I have family members and friends who have battled this disease, but now it was me. All I could think about were the ones who left this world, leaving behind their beautiful families. I am incredibly fortunate and grateful to have received the best possible care and prognosis. The diagnosis was delivered in language that you never want to hear. Lab reports and medical terms were casually used in ways that put the fear of God in you. “Invasive, biopsy, chemo, radiation.” I could not breathe. I was in shock and traumatized with anxieties and fears, all created by words that should never have been used so carelessly.

My husband, Tom, flew home and took control. We are fortunate that he has worked in the cancer diagnostic industry, and he knew how to navigate us through this medical world, but I feel for the women who do not have someone to help them. I heard the beautiful notes of “Breathe” by Blu Cantrell. Inspired by her music, and with each positive test result, I began the first layer of white. I saw the light through Tom, through Blu’s lyrics, and with every stroke on the canvas. They blended into the positivity that I needed in order to live and breathe.

When meeting with the oncologists, I only wore white. With every positive meeting, I continued to paint another layer of white for Tom, because he let me “breathe.” As a promise to God, I’m here to tell my story, to paint, and to try to make a positive difference for others who can’t breathe right now. I believe my cancer has given me a new purpose.

I am embracing my art and beginning a journey. With each painting sold, I am contributing to cancer research.”

“Bono’s lyrics are poetry and music-like songs on a soundtrack to the film, which are about our lives and our families’ love for one another. It’s fitting that the first concert we took our children to was U2 in Boston. U2 has proven that you can entertain the world and be a spiritual beacon of light. That’s what I want to do: share my art with the world. I want it to be enjoyed with the spiritual needs that were felt in creating it. Personal peace, spiritually sharing and able to change the world with messages of love, lyrical poetry, and musical greatness. As he says , we have songs that have saved our lives, and a lot of mine are U2’s because they walk in faith.”
