ED FERSZT

b.1947, Oneida, NY, USA

“My work (large watercolors on stretched paper) is abstract and is intended to evoke thoughts and feelings by combining and overlaying elements from multiple sources. Images emerge from intuitive and imaginative jumps between visual and verbal metaphors. Sometimes models are developed using material brought into the studio. More recently, imagery emerged from a mix of literary, photographic and art historical references. It is not necessary to fully understand all of those sources, but aspects or elements from each are intended to lead the viewer into a different engagement with the painting.”

Ed Ferszt, born in rural upstate New York, earned his BFA from Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia. He continued his education with graduate studies at Bank Street Teachers College, Parsons School of Design, and Teachers College, Columbia University.
