Set along a pond and framed by open meadow and mature vegetation, this home was designed as a contemporary interpretation of the traditional mountain retreat. A collection of simple gabled forms gives the architecture a quiet familiarity with the region while letting the house respond to its landscape on a more intimate scale. Natural wood siding, stone, and dark metal create a restrained mountain palette—refined enough to let the setting take center stage, warm enough to feel like home. Rather than simple openings in the walls, expansive glazing was carefully positioned throughout to frame views and draw the surrounding mountains, meadow, and water into the interior. The central living spaces open directly toward the pond and peaks beyond, blurring the line between indoor and outdoor living, while the home’s composition creates a variety of outdoor spaces for the family to experience the landscape differently through every season.

More than 20 years ago, this property began as open land and a vision its homeowners could already see clearly. An artist herself, she imagined not simply a house, but how she and her late husband, a renowned Jackson Hole sculptor, would experience the landscape from within it—from where the bed would be positioned to capture views of the year-round stream and pond to how the home would connect with its natural surroundings. Working with Hoyt Architects and builder Tom Stoner, that vision came to life in 2004, crafted from reclaimed wood and stone.
