Community Fundraising Facility Committee News On Saturday, July 30th the Arena Fundraising Group hosted a Poker Rally to Dore River. We had an excellent turnout with 50+ people who either came on quads, boats or vehicles. It was a beautiful sunny day and was enjoyed by those who came out. There was also a barbecue for the riders. Thank you to the cooks who volunteered their expertise on cooking burgers, wieners and smokies. There was also a mini horseshoe tournament played and the winners were Wayne Laliberte & Clinton Sanderson. Thank you to Wayne for providing the Horseshoes. The persons who collected the most ghostriders were Janey & Sheldon Yew. They should be commended for their efforts as they collected a total of 287 riders. Second place went to Lorne & Marie Iron who collected 173 riders and third place went to Kathy Desjarlais who collected 101 riders. Anita Aubichon & Kimberly Felske were given a 15% appreciation fee for their efforts in collecting ghostriders as they had 87 & 80 ghostriders respectively. We thank each one of them for their dedication and hard work in collecting ghost hands as this is where we raise the most funds. Thank you to everyone who purchased a hand. High Hand 1st place: Mary Bruno (321 pts) $1000, 2nd place: Leila Morin (319 pts) $300 3rd place: Jason Morin (316 pts) $200. Low Hand 1st place & 2nd place tied with 58 points were Julieann Alcrow & Lorna J. Iron who split the prize money and received $650.00 each. 3rd place went to Cecile Fiedler ( pts) for $200. Riders Only High Hand went to Marcel Roy and Low Hand went to Kathy Desjarlais each receiving $100. We also had a variety of prizes that were donated by Acklands-Grainger Inc., Home Hardware & Fields from Meadow Lake and from the Northern Store & CIPI from Beauval. Thank you very much for your donations. These prizes were only for the riders who collected a minimum of ten ghostriders and 15 riders were entered. The winners are: Brenda Roy – Fishing Rod, Devin Lariviere – Rubber Raft, Paula

Lariviere – Eagle’s Nest Accessories, Pauline Maurice - Cooler, Kathy Desjarlais – Kids Lawn Chairs, Lorne Iron – Tool Set, Anita Aubichon – Bocce Game Set, Brad Aubichon – Golf Umbrella, Gena Boots – Garden Trolley, Jeremy Buffin – T shirt, Kim Felske – Lawn Birds, Karen Roy – puzzle, Sheldon Yew – Lawn Chair, Kevin Burnouf – Flashlight, Janey Yew – Blanket. Start collecting your ghostriders! The prizes will be the same and we hope you all come out and enjoy the day. We are also planning to host a dinner on August 15th which will consist of three choices: Taco in a Bag, Homemade Mini Pizzas or S&S Meatballs, Macaroni Salad with Rice. If you would like to donate some items such as Hamburger, Cheddar Cheese, Macaroni, Little Bannocks, etc., please call Velma at 288-4423/7855 or Rachel Roy at 2884578. We would appreciate any kind of donation that you can give. We are fundraising for a facility for our whole community so please anything you do to help us would be really appreciated. There will also be tickets for a trip to Las Vegas (donated by CIPI) as the Grand Prize, 2nd prize is for a food hamper (donations needed for nonperishable items) and 3rd prize (waiting for replies for donations). The draw date will be on November 18th, 2011. We have changed our name to Community Facility Fundraising Committee because we are not only fundraising to rebuild an Arena but we are also planning to build a place where the whole community can benefit and utilize the building for their needs. If you have any fundraising ideas, please feel free to contact Velma at 288-4423/7855 or come to our next meeting which will be held in the near future. Watch for advertisements.

Just a little humor… One summer evening during a violent thunderstorm a mother was tucking her son into bed. She was about to turn off the light when he asked with a tremor voice, “Mommy, will you sleep with me tonight?” The mother smiled and gave him a reassuring hug. “I can’t dear, she said. “I have to sleep in Daddy’s room.” A long silence was broken at last by his shaky little voice: “The Big Sissy.”
