Take a moment to think and understand inmates and the inside life or supporting an inmate on the inside. The lives and futures of many people are affected in all ways children, wife's, husbands, relations and friends. Also the family pets, finances, and the futures. Love, trust relationships, marriages and commitments are tested and hard to hold onto from both the inside and outside life.

Those working in corrections live between two worlds – prison life and the life over the wall. The question is – how do they balance these lives? How do correctional staff live in a secure detention facility for most of the day then pass through the gate and help their kids with their math homework? How can one person be two completely different people each day – an officer and a citizen? How can you remain healthy day in and day out when crossing the wall?

Guilt When I think of what the effects of doing time has on my little girl and being away from her for so long, I am overwhelmed with guilt.

As time moves relentlessly forward, every precious moment I have missed pulls my heart strings into knots, blinds my mind into guilt, wakes me through the night, reminding me of all I have gambled and lost.

How I ever could have risked all against your unwavering love?

Forgive me, please, I know now what mattered most.

Never again will I make this mistake.

Together we will build a bridge, one day at a time, secure and built with love that none will ever pull asunder.

What to do in case of a landslide

A landslide is the movement of rock, soil and vegetation down a slope. Heavy rainfall or earthquakes can cause a landslide. Human activity, such as removal of trees and vegetation, steep roadside cuttings or leaking water pipes can also cause landslides.

Most landslides occur without public warning and they can cause major damage very quickly.

It’s important to recognise the warning signs and act quickly.

Before a landslide

Find out from your council if there have been landslides in your area before and where they might occur again Check for signs that the ground may be moving. Be alert when driving especially where there are embankments along roadsides.

An illness of this sort - and we have come to believe it is an illness involves those about us in a way no other human sickness can. If a person has cancer all are sorry for him and no one is angry or hurt. But not so with the alcoholic illness, for with it there goes annihilation, of all the things worthwhile in life. It engulfs all whose lives touch the sufferer's. It brings misunderstanding, fierce resentment, financial insecurity, disgusted friends and employers, warped lives of blameless children, sad wives and parents - anyone can increase the list.

Highly competent psychiatrists who have dealt with us have found it sometimes impossible to persuade an alcoholic to discuss his situation without reserve. Strangely enough, wives, parents and intimate friends usually find us even more unapproachable than do the psychiatrist and the doctors.

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism. The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety. If you think a landslide is about the happen

Act quickly. Getting out of the path of a landslide is your best protection. Evacuate and take your Getaway Kit with you. Take your pets with you if it is safe to do so. Warn neighbours who might be affected and help those who may need assistance to evacuate. Contact emergency services and your local council to inform them of the hazard.

After a landslide Keep in mind that further landslides may occur. Stay away from affected sites until it has been properly inspected and authorities give the all-clear. Look for and report broken utility lines to appropriate authorities.

If your property or contents are damaged take notes and photographs when it is safe to do so.

Grief Support Services is a local agency offering free counselling to individuals and whanau/families whose lives are affected by grief and loss. This may be due to the loss of a loved one or from circumstances that have caused change that is difficult to manage.

We provide counselling and support to people who are bereaved by suicide or affected by the suicidal behaviour of family / whanau.

We are friendly and welcoming and understand that it is not always an easy step to contact an agency such as ours. We are happy to be ‘sussed out’ if you want an initial appointment to see if our Service is for you. We treat all enquiries with respect and confidentiality.

Cleaning laptop screens As you may have noticed, laptop screens are very good at collecting dust, finger prints and other stuff. In the good old days, normal glass cleaner worked fine, but with modern screens that are made of thin plastic and may even be touch screens, glass cleaner must NOT be used.

A home-made solution is possible. You’ll need a lint free cloth (aka microfiber cloth) and water. For the tough stuff, you might need some white vinegar or isopropyl alcohol (aka IPA). First, shut down the computer and unplug the power just in case any liquid gets inside. Using just the cloth, gently wipe the screen using circular motions. Never press hard as this can potentially damage the screen. Use the water to dampen the cloth if needed for any stains.

For any stubborn problems use a mixture of 50/50 white vinegar and water, or 50/50 isopropyl alcohol and water. Never use any strong solvents on a LCD screen as this could damage the screen permanently. If the white vinegar or isopropyl solution doesn’t work at first, just be patient and keep at it being careful to use a circular cleaning motion while gently pressing against the screen with the cloth.

You can also purchase cleaning kits from a variety of stores if you don’t feel confident with a home-made solution. They are all very similar to each other, so to help determine the right one for you, you might want to look at information on the package about supporting your type of screen (be it touchscreen or something else) or even the make of your laptop or screen.
