Cool Tech Awards

Cincy Magazine, in partnership with UpTech, presented the third annual Cool Tech Awards to showcase the success of technology in business in our region. The Cool Tech Awards program celebrates companies doing cool things with technology and, in doing so, honors local companies for their innovation and best practices.

This year’s winners and Tech Champion were honored at an event held Sept. 19 at The Transept. The event was sponsored by AT&T, Taft Stettinius & Hollister, Gateway Community & Technical College and ATC Advanced Technology Consulting Inc. The nonprofit beneficiary was the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center.

Faces of Care Cincy Magazine and NKY Magazine held the second annual Faces of Care Gala to honor area nurses and health care professionals who are making a difference in the Tristate and paving the way for those who follow. The magazines honored 24 health care professionals at an evening event Aug. 8 at The Newport Syndicate. The awardees were chosen for their dedication and passion to the nursing field. The night included a cocktail hour, dinner, awards ceremony, and dancing and entertainment.

The Hoody Memorial Golf Tournament and Dinner took place Aug. 5 at the Beckett Ridge Country Club. The event raised $60,000 to go toward the Hoody Memorial Scholarship Fund housed with the Community Foundation of West Chester/Liberty. The event had 144 golfers and 100-plus spectators. The Hoody Memorial Fund was established in 2016 in memory of Master Sergeant Corey Hood and its scholarship is awarded to a Lakota student who possesses the same positive qualities that Hood exhibited throughout his life—a strong will, a desire to succeed and “a little bit of grit.” The organization’s plan is to provide a scholarship in Corey’s name in the amount of $7,500 per year indefinitely.

Scene Healthy Moms & Babes “Night of Music” Event The Healthy Moms & Babes third annual “Night of Music” event was held Aug. 25 at The Bell Event Centre in downtown Cincinnati. The event featured live music

by Heile Contagious and Ryan Adcock of Cradle Cincinnati. The “Night of Music” event supports Healthy Moms & Babes’ mission of serving at-risk women of childbearing age and their families. Since its last gathering, it has served over 300 pregnant women who are in one of its home visiting programs; 1,500 received testing, education and referrals in its outreach van; and two homeless pregnant women and their children are residing in Segale House, its new transitional housing. The “Night of Music” event helped raise funds needed to continue the organization’s critical mission of eradicating infant mortality in our community.

Lindner Center of HOPE Ninth Anniversary Party Employees, board members, friends of Lindner Center of HOPE and guests had a celebration to mark the center’s ninth anniversary at Kaze OTR Aug. 13. Scene Marvin Lewis Community Fund “Learning Is Cool” Academic Achievement Celebration The annual Mar v in Lew is Community Fund “Learning Is Cool” Academic Achievement Celebration was held June 12 at the Cincinnati Zoo. Bengals Coach Marvin Lewis and several Bengals players were on hand to recognize students in grades 1-8 from the Cincinnati Public, North College Hill and Middletown City Schools and students in grades 1-12 from Covington Independent Schools who had achieved the “A” honor roll at least twice in the 2016-2017 school year.

Soul Of The City Soiree Hundreds of guests enjoyed the 10th annual Soul of the City Soiree June 16 at Montgomery Inn Boathouse. The festive event included cocktails and dinner featuring Montgomery Inn’s famous chicken and ribs, music by Nashville’s famous Jimmy Church Band and a dance party. This year, the proceeds went to benefit educational organizations Saint Ursula Academy and the CECH School of Information Technology at the University of Cincinnati.

Scene Taste of OTR Tender Mercies hosted the fifth annual Taste of OTR Aug. 26 in Washington Park.

This event benefitted over 150 adults with mental illness recovering from the trauma of homelessness each year. Over 10,000 people attended the event. It featured restaurants, food trucks, and retailers.

The Craft Beer Village was a crowd pleaser with 12 different beer booths with a variety of local breweries including Rhinegeist, MadTree, Taft’s Ale House, Sam Adams and more.

1 The Taste of OTR featured a full lineup of live entertainment including One Day Steady and The Grove. 2 Featured restaurants included Revolution Rotisserie, Grand Central Delicatessen, Empanadas Aqui, Eli’s BBQ and Tweedles Mini Donuts.

3 Injoy Street Food handed out some of its Indian-inspired cuisine. 4 The event was held in Washington Park in front of Music Hall. 5 Volunteers helped make the event a success.

National Veterans Wheelchair Games The National Veterans Wheelchair Games came to Cincinnati the week of July 17. On July 21, the games were held at the Powel Crosley, Jr. YMCA. The games are the largest annual wheelchair sports competition in the nation. Co-presented by the Department of Veterans Affairs and Paralyzed Veterans of America, the National Veterans Wheelchair Games is a rehabilitation and wheelchair sports program empowering veterans with physical disabilities to live more active and healthy lives through sports and recreation. Â 1 Jaylaya Taylor from Colorado is a thirdtime contender. She was joined on the pool deck by her service dog Kahara.
