Your guide to discovering more to explore, eat, shop, and play in Madeira!
It’s been a very busy year of construction within the City of Madeira! Orange barrels, closed streets and dusty sidewalks, oh my! Those sites will continue throughout the year as construction progresses through the downtown business district. Along with the ongoing transformation of Miami Avenue, Laurel Avenue is due for a repave while work on Camargo Road is set to ramp up throughout the year. While construction is never convenient or fun, we’re starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel and anxiously await seeing the final product come to life. In the meantime, support for our local businesses is extremely important, now more than ever. It’s never a bad day to shop local and discover a new Madeira business.
With all the detours these days, you may have missed several new businesses we’ve welcomed to Madeira! Army Veteran Shane Evanshine has opened Shine Barbershop on Miami Avenue providing affordable haircuts for the entire family. Shine is easy to spot—just look for the classic red, white, and blue barber pole! Just across the street, the delicious tastes of Italy have arrived with the opening of Pastizza Pizza & Pasta. Their New York-style pizzas are baked with
dough made fresh daily and the pasta dishes are perfect for any day of the week.
The much anticipated opening of X-Golf Cincinnati has finally arrived! The former CVS space has been radically transformed into one of the most fun entertainment spots in Madeira! Featuring the world’s most accurate golf simulator, X-Golf features eight large golf simulators and a full bar and seating area, making it the perfect spot to enjoy time with family and friends, even if you’re not a golf pro!
Further down Miami, local resident Trey Connally has opened the Hobii House, full of collectibles, Pokemon cards, trading cards, and more! Whether you’re a diehard collector or looking for a fun place to hang out, this is the place for you!
Over on Carmargo Road, Deluxe Nail Salon and Spa has continued to expand with even more parking and stations to serve Madeira and surrounding communities. Across the street, Ali and Dan have been hard at work transforming the upstairs at Ali’s Bar & Grill, creating even more space to enjoy a delicious burger, pizza, and beer while shooting pool and throwing darts.
On the other side of town, we offi cially welcomed Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa last fall. The Montgomery Road location is extreme-
ly convenient for enjoying a therapeutic massage by yourself or a full spa day with your friends.
We’re excited to welcome this diverse group of businesses to our community. If you haven’t had a chance to visit them, make a point to drop by today and thank them for being in Madeira and be sure to keep up with all of the exciting things that happen throughout the year by following us on social media and visiting MadeiraChamber.com.

Imagine a place where small-town charm meets modern convenience, and a community where families can put down roots and truly feel at home. Welcome to Madeira, Ohio! Just a brief 12-mile drive from downtown Cincinnati via Interstate 71, this hidden gem has everything you need to live well—and it’s right at your doorstep.
Founded in 1910 and originally built along a rail line running between Cincinnati and West Virginia, Madeira has evolved into a welcoming, close-knit town with a strong sense of identity. In the heart of the city, you’ll find the walkable, tree-lined streets of the central business district, brimming with more than 150 local retail and service shops. From chic boutiques and cozy coffee shops to artisan food markets and delicious restaurants, you’ll find something unique around every corner. The north end of the city offers even more opportunities for shopping and dining.
What truly sets Madeira apart is its sense of community, with local events bringing people together year-round. The popular Farmers’ Market—running every Thursday from May to December—showcases local produce, handmade goods, and a friendly atmosphere that keeps locals coming back. In June, the annual Girls’ Night Out shines a spotlight on Madeira’s local businesses with a night full of summertime shopping fun.
Along with community spirit, education and safety are more points of pride. Known for its excellent schools and quiet residential neighborhoods, Madeira continues to be recognized as one of the best cities in Ohio to live and raise children. Madeira City Schools consistently ranks among Ohio’s top districts, offering advanced college-preparatory programs, diverse extracurriculars, and a dedicated staff committed to students’ success.
Whether you’re drawn to its rich
Step back in time at the Madeira Historical Society, located in the charming 1922 Miller House—a Sears catalog home with a fascinating past. Explore the restored rooms that showcase Madeira’s rich history, including a vintage kitchen frozen in the 1920s and a collection of artifacts spanning generations. Don’t miss the unique B&O railroad display, which brings the city’s railroad heritage to life. Open for tours from April to December, the Miller House offers a rare chance to experience the past up close.

history, strong schools, or welcoming atmosphere, it’s easy to see why Madeira has earned itself an excellent reputation. With a perfect blend of community, convenience, and opportunity, this city is a perfect place for families to not only live, but thrive.
Madeira is actively working on multiple infrastructure projects to enhance roadways, improve safety, and modernize essential services. These efforts include repurposing roadways, installing underground utility lines, and creating a more functional and inviting streetscape.
Following a February meeting, city councilmembers voted to begin negotiations to transition eastern Madeira’s water service from Indian Hill Water Works to Greater Cincinnati Water Works. This change aims to unify all residents under one water provider, ensuring consistent services around the city.
Starting in early February, Euclid Road closed to through traffic for the installation of a new stormwater line. The closure lasted around 30 days, as expected. Once the stormwater line installation is complete, Euclid Road will be repaved later this spring when asphalt plants reopen.
The Miami Avenue Project remains a key focus for Madeira. Phase 1, which focused on underground utility work and water main replacement, is nearing completion after a year of progress. Phase 2, which will continue through the year, will bring new sidewalks, enhanced streetscapes, and a reconstructed roadway to the area.
As part of last year’s roundabout project, Madeira installed new sidewalks to successfully link Lancewood and the surrounding areas to Miami Avenue. These improvements support the city’s goal of creating a safer and more inviting environment, as well as a functional streetscape for Madeira residents.
As part of this project, Miami Avenue’s southbound lane has reopened following the 30-day closure that began on January 13. The northbound lane will remain closed for an additional period to accommodate ongoing construction.
The City of Madeira appreciates residents’ patience and cooperation as these improvements take shape, and encourage everyone to stay tuned for further updates on the city website. We’re looking forward to seeing the new Madeira 2.0 completed in 2026!
Of Maderia’s 3.38 square miles, more than 50 acres is beautiful green space available for residents’ leisure. Whether it’s youth sports games, picnics with the family, or community-wide events, there’s room for everyone across Madeira’s three major parks.
With the redevelopment of McDonald Commons completed last year, the park is ready to host Madeira’s Memorial Day and Fourth of July celebrations, the Street Dance (relocated this year due to construction downtown), and the Fall Festival later this year.
Throughout the summer, children in grades 4–9 can sign up for the fun and friendly wiffl eball league, which runs in June and July, with games every morning. Other exciting events are certain to make use of the new green space throughout the year.
Phase 1 of redevelopment at the park has brought about improved pedestrian safety and traffic flow, a new veterans memorial, and an event lawn, among countless other amenities to encourage residents to get outdoors. An additional parking lot will be added just beyond the woods with a walking trail down to the fields to accommodate more visitors to the parks. Later down the line, McDonald Common’s walking trails, creek, and wooded footpaths will be developed for better utilization and a more positive park experience.
After a generational renovation, McDonald Commons’s $13.5 million investment resulted in a new and improved green space. The facility added two more acres of land, as well as a four-season community room, two pickleball courts, a redesigned field to accommodate more sports leagues, and an expanded and ADA-compliant playground.
Sellman Park is a mostly wooded area, with access to Madeira Middle School’s baseball diamond, soccer field, two lighted tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, and basketball courts. This 10-acre park also includes playground equipment and a picnic shelter, open to reservations.
Nelle V. Hosbrook Bird Sanctuary
To preserve her legacy and to create a space for others to enjoy, Nelle V. Hosbrook, a descendant of one of the first settlers of Madeira, willed this space to the city. Now, it is a refuge for bird lovers. The sanctuary includes the Madeira StoryTrail, allowing families to read and enjoy a picture book during their venture through the park.
In late 2023, Green Living by Design helped to create this pocket park at Euclid and Camargo, featuring native plants and a permeable crushed stone walking path.
For more than a century, the Madeira City School District has excelled in teaching, earning a five-star rating in the most recent state report card. The district as a whole has exceeded expectations in all categories of the report card, and continues to be one of eight districts in Ohio—and the only district in southwest Ohio—to do so.
Further, Madeira City Schools have paved the way in producing an annual Quality Profile to compile district accomplishments in areas that are most important to Madeira, from academics, arts, and athletics to student leadership, community involvement, and district recognition. Since the Quality Profile’s inception, more than 100 school districts across Ohio have created a similar assessment to track their performance.
This year’s profile highlighted student success in art and design projects, finance challenges, responsible use of technology, and more.
Want to be a part of the district’s profound student success? The volunteer-run Madeira Schools Foundation assists the district by providing the resources it needs to continue to thrive, including funding, supplies, and engagement opportunities. Over the years, this group of committed volunteers have raised millions for schools and students, providing for new technology, scholarships, and athletic facilities. For more than 90 years, families from 21 Cincinnati school districts have trusted St. Gertrude to provide their children with an excellent education rooted in the Dominican faith tradition: preaching truth, practicing virtue, and loving one another in Christ. With a mission to help students flourish in both their personal and faith journeys, St. Gertrude is committed to giving kids the tools they need to develop their God-given talents. Small class sizes (the average homeroom size is only 20 students) and an overall student-to-teacher ratio of 13:1 mean that students can expect individualized attention in the classroom and ample opportunity to pursue their passions through a wide range of extracurricular activities. 6543 Miami Ave., (513) 561-8020, https://stgertrudesch.org/
