A NOTE FROM BLAKE OUR SEASON CONTINUES WITH TWO SOLO PERFORMANCES that, while very different from one another, will bring you a sense of joy and connection. In Moe & Jack’s Place – The Rouse Theatre, Get Happy: Angela Ingersoll Sings Judy Garland explores the extraordinary power of performance to connect us with something larger than ourselves. With music and stories about the legendary Judy Garland, Angela Ingersoll creates a theatrical celebration that is at once a tribute to an American icon and a deeply personal exploration of the artist behind the legend. Garland’s voice has become a cultural touchstone, from the longing of “Over the Rainbow” to the exuberance of “Get Happy.” Angela reminds us that behind those unforgettable songs was a complex human being. This powerhouse performance was broadcast on PBS and earned Angela an Emmy nomination. We are honored to bring her talents to our community this fall. There’s a treat of another nature in the Rosenthal Shelterhouse for the holiday season. Ginna Hoben’s delightful solo play The Twelve Dates of Christmas is an unexpected journey into the dating world marked by heartbreak, hope, and the possibility of finding joy in the most unlikely places. What begins as a travelogue of bad dates quickly becomes something more surprising: an exploration of what it means to start over. Twelve Dates reminds us that sometimes the greatest gift is not finding exactly what we were looking for but discovering something new about ourselves. I hope you enjoy this delightful journey with a friend or partner and with the Playhouse audience around you! Speaking of the holiday season, it’s not too early to be thinking about our annual production of A Christmas Carol. We are excited to introduce our new Scrooge, Mark Mineart, to the community. I encourage you to share the magic of live theatre with a young person in your life by bringing them to this beloved holiday story. Cheers!

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT Ohio, whose name originates from the Iroquoian word ohi-yo, meaning good rivers, is a testament to the deep connection between the land and the Indigenous peoples who have inhabited it for centuries. The Cincinnati region is ancestral land of many Nations, and Indigenous people are still here today. As a step toward honoring the truth and achieving healing and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, we recognize and honor the enduring connection these Nations have to this territory. May we reflect on our commitment to understanding, preserving, and celebrating the rich culture of Native Indigenous communities who have shaped and continue to contribute to these lands.
WHAT IS A LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT? It is the recognition of the Native Americans/First Nations/Indigenous Peoples who cared for these lands prior to removal. Our statement was created with guidance from our partners at the Urban Native Collective. For more information, visit urbannativecollective.org.

THE TWELVE DATES OF CHRISTMAS “HAPPILY EVER AFTER” AT THE PLAYHOUSE In The Twelve Dates of Christmas, Mary is still looking for her happy ever after, but the couples featured here found theirs — thanks in part to the Playhouse! As the setting for date nights, engagements, and weddings, the Playhouse holds as a special place in these couples’ love stories. JACKIE SMITH AND MATT RUSSO Jackie and Matt met on their first date on September 27, 2017, at the Playhouse where they saw Mr. Joy in the Rosenthal Shelterhouse Theatre. It was the first of many shows they would enjoy together. Four years later, Jackie, who had worked at the Playhouse since 2011, was called in to “work a special event” that day. That event was her own surprise proposal on the stage of the Rosenthal Shelterhouse, complete with original choreography and a champagne toast. Matt and Jackie knew their wedding had to be celebrated somewhere special, and on July 20, 2024, they were married on the Rosenthal Shelterhouse stage and then partied all evening in the place where their love story began!

in their budding love story. Susan recalls that the first time they came to the Playhouse, Christopher “danced [them] into the doorway!” They love coming early to grab a drink and a bite to eat while they discuss what they expect to see at that performance. “We’re both in our seventies,” Susan says. “Who knew that this time of life could be this much fun? Thank you Playhouse for creating a romantic environment for us oldies!” JOE HUBER AND SHELLI SMITH Joe and Shelli celebrated their 30th anniversary last April! Their love story began at the Playhouse in 1996 when they had their first date with a performance of All in the Timing in the Rosenthal Shelterhouse. Within three years, Joe and Shelli bought their first Playhouse subscription and have enjoyed spending date nights in both theatres ever since. MARTHA AND GREG TIERNEY Martha and Greg’s love story began in high school when they met as freshmen. They dated throughout college, and they tied the knot in 1968. At that time, the Playhouse was undergoing construction to build the Marx Theatre. Martha and Greg purchased a tile as a way to commemorate their relationship. Martha says their tile may no longer be there, but their love and their marriage have both outlasted it. They have enjoyed many date nights since. RABBI SANDFORD KOPNICK AND DR. NANCY MAGNUS KOPNICK The night that Nancy and Sandford got engaged began with the Playhouse’s first production of Treasure Island in 1989. When the performance ended, Nancy and Sandford walked out of the theatre, and a limousine was waiting for them. Nancy was taken by complete surprise, and Sandford proposed right there. Nancy says that “theatre and the Playhouse have been a part of our love story ever since.”
THE TWELVE DATES OF CHRISTMAS shared enjoyment for live drama if we had not received that gift,” says Lyn. “We celebrated our 54th anniversary in August 2026 … and 53 years of date nights at the Playhouse!”
Treasure Island (1989). Photo by Sandy Underwood. TERRY AND KEITH LEMMERMAN For Terry, the Playhouse has been an important part of her life ever since she was in high school. She and her (future) husband, Keith, were both members of an unofficial club at school that explored the many cultural assets that Cincinnati offers. One of the group’s first outings was a performance of The Fantasticks in the Rosenthal Shelterhouse. The group’s seats were scattered throughout the theatre, and as luck would have it, Terry and Keith ended up seated next to each other. Terry recalls a humorous moment during the show in which one of the actors “died” in the aisle and accidentally landed on her foot. He remained there for the rest of the act and proceeded to wink at her. Aside from the actor, only Terry and Keith were aware of the mishap, and the moment became a comical memory they shared. “We started dating not too long after,” says Terry, “and one of the first presents he bought me was the Broadway soundtrack album of the show.”
BETSY AND PETE FRAME Betsy and Pete got married in 1964. That July, they decided to go on a date to the Playhouse. They attended a performance of The Fantasticks in the Rosenthal Shelterhouse Theatre — the only stage at the Playhouse at the time. Before getting married, Betsy didn’t live in Cincinnati. “I was a Salt Lake City girl in my husband’s city,” she says. During intermission, she recalls taking in the beautiful view of the city from on top of the hill. “I fell in love with Cincinnati and the Playhouse that beautiful evening.” Betsy and Pete have been married for 62 years and still enjoy their date nights at the theatre.

LYN AND JACK MARTIN Lyn and Jack received their first Playhouse subscription as a wedding gift in 1972 and have enjoyed Playhouse productions ever since. “We may not have discovered our 2026–2027 | 31
