A message from the Executive Director

Welcome the 2023 edition of the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce Membership Directory & Business Resource Guide. I would like to thank our partners, Cincinnati Magazine and Anderson Township, who assisted us in putting together this publication. It’s a team effort and I hope that it will be a helpful resource throughout the year.

This year, we will continue our small business theme and focus on several of our local restaurants and eateries. The Anderson area is filled with some great restaurants, bars and pubs that offer great food, craft beer and nightlife entertainment. We have highlighted a few in this year's directory, but there are so many for you to try and enjoy.

We have an exciting and busy year planned for 2023 that includes a few new events. The Chamber, along with the Anderson Towne Center, will once again host our SummerFest and FallFest events. These events, which started last year, will showcase all of the great businesses and organizations in our area, and feature great food, beer, and live entertainment. We will also continue to host “Business After Hours” events throughout the year for members to enjoy food, drinks, and networking at different business locations in the Anderson, Mt. Washington, Newtown, and West Clermont areas.

Accelerate Anderson will be accepting applications for the 2023-24 year later this summer, so now is the time to get signed up for this wonderful program. We are excited to announce that we will be launching a junior leadership program, ASPIRE, later this year, in partnership with the Forest Hills School District. This program will focus on providing professional discovery for high school aged students here in the Anderson area.

The Chamber will be hosting a new Women’s Day event on September 20, at the Anderson Center. The day will include guest speakers, breakout sessions, lunch, giveaways, prizes, swag bags, and more. If you are a women-owned business and are interested in getting involved with this event, we encourage you to contact the Chamber.

For more information on Chamber events and activities, please visit our website as well as our social media platforms. We look forward to serving you in 2023!

Building Business Connections Through Chamber Membership

“As a member of the AACC, you have the opportunity to network with a wide range of community professionals and exchange ideas and information at events and monthly meetings. By building these connections, you gain referrals that open doors to new opportunities that might never be uncovered otherwise. Referrals are the most important aspect of my business because they allow me to establish relationships with the right people at the right time.

I met Jeff Scheper, CFP® of Stifel Financial at an AACC Monthly Meeting and we discussed our 60-second elevator speeches. Jeff is an investment advisor, and I am a business broker in our local community. This connection quickly unfolded into an opportunity to bring mutual expertise together for a client’s benefit. Jeff thought of me when he met with his clients who expressed the desire to sell their local franchise with two locations in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky. The client was ready to exit the business in favor of retirement but didn’t know where to start with the end goal of selling the business. Because of our connection through the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce, Jeff thought of me right away. I was able to help his clients sell their business and the sale proceeds helped the client retire comfortably with Jeff’s investment and financial planning guidance. This is one of many reasons why my AACC membership is so valuable to me.”

New Junior Leadership Program

Emerging student leaders to focus on self-discovery, job readiness through ASPIRE Youth Discovery Initiative.

Members of the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce have often asked the question: How can we prepare our next generation for the local workforce? One answer to this question is emerging in the form of a new monthly program that links the Anderson Area Chamber with the Forest Hills School District in a multi-faceted leadership venture.

Brandy Uhlenbrock, director of member services for the Chamber, and Melanie Hartong, community partnership specialist for Forest Hills School District, are finalizing plans for the ASPIRE Youth Discovery Initiative in which 10 sophomores from Turpin and Anderson high schools will participate in a journey to deeper self-awareness using assessments that gauge aptitude, personality, skill, interests, values, and competencies.

“Rarely do sophomores know what career path they will follow,” Uhlenbrock explains. “Through a variety of assessments and conversations, we hope to help them realize their preferences and potential as they begin to discover employment opportunities. It is our hope that connecting our youth with local business leaders, government officials, and mentors, and giving them work-based opportunities in ‘community classrooms’ will help us to retain them as our future workforce.”

Another main facet of the program “is about professional discovery,” Hartong notes. In her role with the school district, she helps create student experiences through internships, shadowing, and workshops. These experiences help students identify their own interests. As most 15 to 16-year-old students would have limited job experience at that age, the program will help students “go a little deeper and identify who they are as a person and get a refined sense of what they want to be,” she explains.

The sophomores will be coached in how to build a resume and build a LinkedIn profile while internships, shadowing, and workshops will give them hands-on experience. Special projects and

community service opportunities could be considered depending on student interest.

“We want to leverage our Chamber businesses to expose students to a variety of career fields and help them build their networks early on,” Uhlenbrock says.

Students and coaches will meet in a variety of settings across the township during the sessions scheduled September through March. Many of the concepts behind the program are found in the Chamber’s Accelerate Anderson program, which works to develop local leadership to improve the quality of life in Anderson Township. Next school year could be the first year for the program, pending school district approval.

Hartong says students will benefit from being exposed to the challenging opportunities available through the ASPIRE program. “The program will bring the value of awareness of yourself as an individual, as a future professional and help students build employability skills,” she adds.

Accelerate Anderson

Real Results from our Exceptional Leaders

Participating in Accelerate Anderson has been one of the most impactful experiences of my professional career. Being able to network and build connections with business and organizational representatives in and around the Anderson community has helped me further develop and strengthen my own leadership skills. Through Accelerate Anderson, I've been able to reflect on my own personal and professional practices in a manner that is productive, safe, and free from judgement. I'd wholeheartedly recommend participation in this valuable and energizing program.

The leadership topics we cover and the local venues we visit has been very educational and fun at the same time. I’m excited each month to dive into a new leadership topic and understand a little more about my leadership style and habits, all while also learning about a new venue in Anderson Township. I’ve been delighted visiting many of these business and organizations in Anderson Township I did not know existed. I’m thrilled the Anderson Chamber offers such an outstanding program!

The personal attention this program offers, helps prime participants to be more self-aware in their communications and interactions. The course work helps put them in touch with their strengths and potential while promoting strategies to use when embracing opportunities for growth. I read a quote recently that says, “Untapped potential turns into regret.” I would encourage anyone who is seeking to improve their leadership insights and skills to participate in Accelerate Anderson. Your potential awaits!

–JODI LANDERS, FOUNDER, LANDERS COACHING

The Accelerate Anderson program has connected me to other leaders in the Anderson community. These connections have now become partnerships, which has led to new and original programming at the YMCA. Because of Accelerate, I feel more confident as a leader and the community benefits. I recommend this program to anyone looking to grow as a professional.

Think about it! A locally owned shop will:

• Use a local accountant for payroll and taxes

• Use a local printer to print letterhead, business cards, banners, etc.

• Purchase business insurance from a local agent

• Use local agencies for marketing and promotion

• Shop at local boutiques

Think Big for Small Business

The Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce wants to remind you to “Shop Local.” Once people realize the community reinvestment impact of shopping locally, it makes so much sense. On average when a consumer shops locally, 75 percent of the money spent stays in the local community, compared to only 40 percent when consumers shop at a larger retailer. Small businesses buy products and services from other small businesses, reinvesting money into the community.

The list goes on and on with examples of how locally owned businesses reinvest money into the community in which they operate. This is why when at all possible, it is good to support the little guys on your block.

It is the duty of a local chamber of commerce to support and promote locally owned businesses year-round. They are the backbone of American business and the driving force behind a healthy economy.

Let's Eat!

The Anderson area is filled with great food, entertainment, and atmosphere.

America loves to dine out and the Anderson area has plenty of great places to choose from. Dining out has always been a great way to celebrate special occasions, meet up with friends, or just enjoy an evening with your family. We have a wonderful selection of one-of-a-kind restaurants, bars, and eateries that offer great food, a charming atmosphere, and some of the best local entertainment on the east side.

Shopping and dining have always been a huge economic driver for our local economy as well as our nation. For most Amer-

icans, dining out or ordering takeout is a regular part of their everyday lives. With busy work and recreation schedules, many people choose to dine out rather than cook every meal at home. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average U.S. household spends $2,375 per year on dining and takeout purchases. During the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic, those numbers dropped due to shutdowns and families cooking at home more. Many eateries across the country, including our mom-and-pop restaurants, had to scale

down and adjust their operations to keep their businesses open.

Today, customers are heading back out to explore and enjoy the dining out experience.

“There are so many great restaurants, bars, and eateries to explore right here in the Anderson area,” says Matt Owen, the executive director of the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce. “So we encourage you to shop and eat local!”

Here’s a small taste of what’s available in our area.

Urban Grill on Main: From Food Truck to Main Street

Randy Reichelderfer and Betsy Eicher, owners of Urban Grill on Main (6623 Main St., Newtown), are lifelong Cincinnatians with deep connections to the region. The brother- and sister-in-law became business partners in 2013 when they opened the Urban Grill food truck.

“What started off as a family conversation about how much we enjoyed cooking turned into the idea of the food truck,” Eicher explains. “Our vision was to serve flavorful food at the highest level of excellence.”

Soon, they had a consistent following of patrons. “We had people calling and asking where the truck would be located the upcoming weekends,” she recalls.

The tremendous success of the food truck led them to looking for a permanent location to open a fully operational restaurant. In 2016, Reichelderfer found an old farmhouse on Main Street in Newtown. After a year of renovating, adding on, and creating a menu, the Urban Grill on Main opened.

With an expanded menu, Reichelderfer and Eicher began specialty nights that feature

baby back ribs on Wednesdays, smoked meatloaf on Thursdays, and weekend fish features that offer both saltwater and freshwater specialties. The restaurant also offers an excellent steakhouse menu, which includes pork chops, pork loin, and homemade salads.

Several times a year, Urban Grill hosts “Wild Game Night” with menu items that have featured duck breast, bison, alligator, and more.

During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the eatery converted to carryout, though this was not something they were initially equipped to do.

“We did not have an online presence at the time,” Eicher recalls. “We got some needed assistance to help us get set up with an online sale system.”

With a slight transition, the carryout business brought them through the toughest part

of the pandemic. “It was a difficult time for everyone, but we are thankful for our customers who helped us through,” she adds.

In recent years, they have added an outdoor seating area, “The Ark,” a very popular space that customers love. “The Ark got its name for how long it took us to build it,” Eicher explains. “It adds another great space for our customers. You need to come and experience it.”

Exciting Updates Coming to Latitudes Bar & Bistro

Latitudes Bar & Bistro is getting a facelift and an updated menu. Owner Charlie Farrara and partner Tim Weiss are making some positive changes that include updating the space to give a more modern look and feel. The menu is being changed to include “Steak Night,” wine tastings, and the return of “Burger Night.”

“We are excited about the changes and encourage ev-

eryone to stop in and experience the great food and atmosphere,” Farrara explains. “We have a dedicated staff of friendly professionals who are ready to host your escape for the everyday.”

Farrara grew up on Long Island and attended Miami University in Oxford, then spent 20 years as a band director in the Cincinnati area. One of the items on his bucket list was to own a bar so he jumped at the chance when the opportunity presented itself.

“In summer 2017, I was introduced to the Khoury brothers to help establish a stage at Latitudes,” he says. “That led to an opportunity for me to take over the business.”

Latitudes Bar & Bistro is regularly hailed as one of the best entertainment venues on Cincinnati’s east side. Located in the Anderson Towne Center, the establishment provides some of the best live entertainment in the region. Happy hour is from 4 to 6 p.m., during which time all drinks are 50 percent off.

“We have something going on almost every night at Latitudes,” Farrara says. “Our uniquely built stage with sound and lighting for a truly amazing experience.”

Sweets & Meats BBQ: Making Great Barbeque Mobile

Sweets & Meats BBQ is a woman-owned and operated business that began when co-founders Kristen Bailey and Anton Gaffney started preparing family homemade favorites at neighborhood cookouts. Over the last nine years, the duo became well-respected BBQ caterers in the Greater Cincinnati area, growing their business from a backyard barbecue start-up to a brick-and-mortar operation, while managing four mobile units seasonally.

Like with many restaurants, the tough economic times that followed the COVID-19 pandemic have hit the food service industry hard. This past year, they made the difficult decision to close the storefront in Mt. Washington, but Bailey is determined to keep Sweets & Meats thriving.

“We closed our carry-out restaurant in December and are 100% committed to catering and events moving forward,” she explains. “We are scaling our business this year and have added a custom BBQ trailer with a hog cooker and grill, and we will begin offering on-site hog roasts and grill-outs.”

With plans to expand the menu and launch another concept and food truck this year, Sweets & Meats BBQ is ready to service your next event.

“Our experienced staff can handle small to large gatherings, including but not limited to, weddings, corporate events, graduation parties, funerals, family reunions, and other social events,” Bailey says. “We pride ourselves on offering personalized attention and can customize a barbecue menu to meet your needs and desires.”

Arthur's of Anderson Thrives in Anderson Township

Growing up in Anderson Township, BJ Hughes and Joe Santorelli dreamed of one day opening their own restaurant. “There were so many chain restaurants and we wanted to do something unique,” Hughes recalls. “We envisioned a place with great food and atmosphere.”

Today, Arthur’s of Anderson (8221 Beechmont Ave., Forestville)—owned and operated by partners Hughes, Santorelli, and Susan Selzer—is the fulfillment of that dream.

More than a decade after opening the original Hyde Park location in the late ’90s, the owners started looking for another location. After a long search that included Mariemont and Newtown, they found the site on Beechmont that was initially a Perkins. Renovations began in late 2013 and six months later, the new location was open.

“We wanted both the Hyde Park location and the Beechmont location to share some similar décor, such as the dark wood, photographs of Cincinnati, and the wellknown Arthur’s art mural,” he says.

Known for its award-winning gourmet burgers, Arthur’s offers an extensive menu that includes excellent sandwiches such as the turkey club croissant and the Ruben. Other popular items include beer battered cod, dinner salads, and fish and chips. And on Sundays and Tuesdays, the restaurant offers a “Burger Madness” special.

“We set out to create the best craft burgers even before gourmet burgers were a thing,” Hughes explains. “It’s build-your-own burger. All the toppings you want.”

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Arthur’s adjusted its service to carry-out only and promoted its menu and specials through social media, and the restaurant was able to retain all of its employees.

“Our customers were fantastic in supporting us during COVID,” Hughes says. “We are so grateful for their loyalty. It was very important that our employees were still getting a paycheck. They are just like family, and we wanted to take care of them.”

In a day and age when finding and maintaining a good workforce is difficult, Hughes and his partners are eager to teach and mentor the next generation.

“I love having the opportunity to teach our high school and college-aged kids important life skills, such as customer service, how to communicate properly, time management and responsibility,” he notes. “It’s important to develop a good working environment and a positive culture.”

With the success of both the Hyde Park and Anderson locations, there is discussion of opening a third restaurant. “We are interested in opening another location,” Hughes adds. “We are considering opening a “ghost kitchen” concept. That is what we are leaning towards.”

New Events Draw Community Together at the Anderson Towne Center

The Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce added two new community events at the Anderson Towne Center this past year. SummerFest, hosted in June, and FallFest, hosted in September, included live entertainment, street food, draft beer and lots of business and community vendors.

“Our goal was to create a street festival atmosphere with shopping, entertainment, food, and vendors for families to come and enjoy,” says Matt Owen, executive director of the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce. “We had a very nice turnout for both events.”

The Anderson Towne Center tenants offered sidewalk sales, special deals, and activities for kids while the street was full of vendors, such as local businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations. “We had great support from our Anderson Towne Center businesses and local community organizations,” Owen explains. “They really helped get these events off the ground.”

Both events will continue in 2023, with SummerFest scheduled for June 10 and FallFest taking place on October 21.

“We are so excited about this year’s events,” Owen says. “Our hope is that they grow into wonderful longstanding events the community can come and enjoy each year.”

A Place To Call Home

There’s plenty to love about calling Anderson Township home. This desirable suburban community is known for its high-class amenities, friendly neighborhoods and beautiful tree-lined surroundings. In recent years, Anderson Township has become even more appealing with its expanded housing options, aimed at reaching those entering the workforce to senior adults seeking to stay in Anderson. Whether you are upsizing or downsizing, starting a new business or branching out in your career, the Anderson area provides all the pieces you need to help you find your place. Anderson’s roots go deep, beginning with the community’s first settlement along the Little Miami River springing up in the late 1700s. With hard work and foresight, coupled with a fruitful land, pioneers built the foundation of this community that is home today to more than 44,000 residents. Now, more than 225 years from that starting point, Anderson residents forge their own futures, building their American Dream led by responsive public officials providing services that support residents’ needs. Beyond housing, Anderson Township’s recent transformation has been fueled by more than $250 million in public and private investment in the past decade. At the core of this investment, the busy Beechmont Corridor has been upgraded in safety, aesthetics and through the investments of quality merchants who have chosen to earn their livelihoods here. The center of the community, along the Five Mile corridor by Anderson Center, is seeing further transformation with the addition of a luxury 200-unit apartment complex and transportation hub called Vantage at Anderson Towne Center. Bordered on three sides by the Ohio and Little Miami Scenic rivers, the community is home to growing recreational options and riverside fun. A recreation corridor is developing along the Little Miami Scenic River, and upgrades planned along Kellogg Avenue seek to enhance the regional attractions of the township’s Entertainment District. With these and other amenities, the community is poised to become an even stronger regional draw. Anderson Township has historically invested significantly in its excellent parks and recreational programs. For more than two decades, the township has systematically grown and maintained a network of hike-bike trails enjoyed by many. Additionally, top-rated schools make Anderson a leading choice for families searching for quality education. And for wellness care, a wide variety of excellent medical and health support providers are abundant and conveniently located, along with a hospital, in Anderson. It’s evident to folks living here and people just looking in: Those who call the region home are living the good life.

Anderson Township Government

Built on the hard work and innovation of previous generations, Anderson Township remains focused on smart growth and careful preservation of community assets to create a sustainable future.

This highly sought after community is more than just beautiful homes set on rolling hills. It’s a place where residents enjoy high-quality schools and parks, an innovative greenspace program preserving natural areas, exceptional public services and easy access to downtown and the airport.

Thoughtful planning is a hallmark of Anderson Township government. In the past decade the township has expanded its award-winning trails program, encouraged new housing options for all generations and leveraged public-private partnerships to bring new amenities into the community.

Governed by a three-person elected board of trustees, Anderson operates its own public works and fire departments. Police services are contracted through the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office.

Beechmont Avenue, the community’s “Main Street,” provides a hub of service and shopping destinations. Safety and convenience have increased in the past decade, as the corridor undergoes transformation.

Recent efforts, such as connecting trails, park enhancements, and open space preservation along the Little

Miami Scenic River have paid off over time, creating a new recreation corridor bringing in greater opportunities to play along the river. The township’s entertainment district along Kellogg Avenue and the Ohio River also is evolving. An ambitious plan lays the groundwork for streetscape enhancements and improved safety and convenience for those visiting the riverfront.

Responsible, efficient, and conservative governance is one of the tenets of Anderson Township. Property taxes are kept in check while the township maintains high-quality public services. While housing prices fluctuate nationally, Anderson remains a solid investment for homeowners. Senior adults living here also enjoy the township-owned senior center, a safe haven for many active residents who enjoy weekday fellowship and activities.

Local volunteers are encouraged to get involved in decision-making activities in Anderson Township government. More than 100 residents serve on nine citizen committees that advise the trustees on key issues ranging from zoning to transportation and economic development.

As in year’s past, Anderson’s leadership continues to concentrate on programs and policies that support a high quality of life, enhancing the corporate experience of a community that respects its past while actively charting a better future.

Active recreation opportunities are abundant in Anderson Township. With a growing network of popular hike and bike trails, golf, pickleball, and both indoor and outdoor activities, there’s never a lack of things to do to stay healthy and fit.

New active recreation options are growing along one of the township’s two recreation corridors. The corridor developing along the Little Miami River into Newtown is drawing more and more fun seekers each week. Residents can head east over the Beechmont Levee to find places to hike, bike, rollerblade, play soccer, pickleball, baseball, and even lawn bowling. Within the last two decades, infrastructure growth in the area—which includes the completion of the Little Miami Scenic Trail—has served as a catalyst drawing residents and visitors to the area to play. Clear Creek and Riverside parks, operated by the Anderson Park District, draw crowds on sunny days, and golfers enjoy sharpening their skills at a driving range on the edge of Clear Creek Park.

Anderson Township’s other recreation corridor on Kellogg Avenue also is seeing change. The Kellogg Gateway Study, adopted by Anderson Township in 2020, defines the many improvements coming to the area in the realm of beautification, safety, improved signage, trees, landscaping, and aesthetics.

The long-standing Coney Island Park experience continues to draw crowds all through the summer. Sunlite Pool is unique

for being North America’s largest recirculating pool while little ones at Coney can splash around in more than an acre of shallow water. Giant waterslides and a challenging obstacle course round out a day of water-related fun.

Not far away, two outdoor venues offer musical tunes for all tastes. Riverbend Music Center is the summer home of the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and hosts some of the biggest names in music throughout the season, and PNC Pavilion provides a more intimate venue for national acts and local favorites alike.

Further down the Kellogg Avenue corridor, Belterra Park features seasonal live thoroughbred and year-round simulcast racing, plus several dining options, and a choice of more than 1,300 games. Live music on the weekends draws a crowd.

The Anderson Park District’s nine parks serve as a center of many community activities all year long, a number of which are hosted at the revamped Anderson Parks RecPlex. Camps, nature programs, and summer concerts are included in the district’s annual offerings, plus special holiday activities, fitness classes, and diverse sports leagues for many ages and interests.

Other parks offering excellent places to hike in Anderson Township include Great Parks of Hamilton County’s Woodland Mound Park and Withrow Nature Preserve. Golfers can choose from several area courses, including the California Golf Course, the private Ivy Hills golf course and Coldstream Golf Course.

Anderson Arts Collaborative Focuses on Connecting

nati area. “We thought, ‘Why don’t we have such a space in Anderson?’” Cincy says.

“Having a culture that welcomes everyone is a priority for our organization,” she explains. “We especially want people that don’t view themselves as artists to join in our collaborative experiences, where there is room for everyone to contribute.”

Where do artists in Anderson Township go to connect and share their creative visions? A new group called the Anderson Arts Collaborative is stepping up to answer this question. Two non-artist friends, Nancy Fuller and Cindy Gajus, realized in 2020 that Anderson needed a way to connect people to reduce isolation and provide opportunities to include everyone in the process.

Gajus noticed many artists—former students of hers from when she was a teacher—would travel a good distance to create their art. Together, the pair began searching for community art centers around the Cincin-

“We were asking what would make the east side of Cincinnati more vibrant, healthy and connected,” Nancy says. “We overwhelmingly decided that our community needed more connections and friendships, and less isolation and divisiveness.”

With a motivation to foster friendships and linking artists and non-artists in collaborative projects, the non-profit entity stepped out in public in 2021. The group began organizing outdoor pop-up art experiences, including one at the park district’s “A Fair of the Arts.” Future activities will include art experiences featuring local artists who collaborate with the public to create something beautiful.

As the base of support grows, Nancy notes that the group is seeking dedicated space for community art. Until then, a monthly social meet and greet connects artists and lovers of art.

The road ahead is not linear, Nancy says, but with friends and volunteers, she sees an exciting pathway to engage Anderson residents. “It is not really about whether or not there is a big building at the end of the tunnel, it is about the deep friendships you create along the way,” she adds. “Cindy and I are making wonderful friends we would not have had otherwise as we dream and build this collaborative together.”

Anderson Trails Network Connects the Community

Anderson Township’s award-winning trails program has encouraged residents since 1993 to enjoy the great outdoors while traversing safely through the community. In those three decades, residents have watched Anderson Township develop new sidewalks on hilly, wooded pathways, along treed avenues and in neighborhoods that now are connected for multi-modal transportation.

Last year, a 20-year project linking Anderson Township to trail networks downtown and north to Cleveland was completed. This missing link in the Little Miami Scenic Trail provides a protected safe pathway for riders and walk-

ers, via a pedestrian/cyclist bridge over the river, as well as a tunnel under the State Route 32 ramp to the Beechmont Levee. The ambitious undertaking was a final piece in the Ohio River to Lake Erie trail, a 325-mile pathway running through towns, cities and rural areas. More than 80 miles of this have been built including more than two miles through Anderson Township and the Village of Newtown.

Locally, Anderson residents are avid users of the 22-plus miles of the Anderson Trails Network, The spine of the network is the beautiful Five Mile Trail, with other paved trails connecting residents to destinations and neighbor-

hoods from north to south and east to west. Enjoy the adventure as you hop on a trail and see where it takes you!

What's New in Development

The pace of development and redevelopment may have slowed slightly in Anderson’s business district, but new housing options are the focus of “what’s new” this year. Two high-end apartment communities are rising in Anderson Township, with completion of both projects scheduled by early 2025. The Vantage at Anderson Towne Center community on Five Mile Road by Anderson Center offers a 224-unit luxury rental option with numerous amenities including an Infinity Pool. At the foot of Beechmont Avenue near State Route 32, the 350-unit four-story Skytop community is under construction. More than 65 percent of the units are one-bedroom units. The rental communities are a welcome addition to the township, says Steve Sievers, Anderson’s assistant township administrator for operations.

“As Anderson Township works to diversify its housing stock for all generations—a key goal of the township’s comprehensive plan—these two quality developments will fill a great need in an underserved aspect of our housing market,” he adds.

Along with more rental housing options, Anderson single-family home choices are expanding as well. More than a dozen

smaller subdivisions are planned or under construction across virtually all portions of the community. These provide a variety of housing options, with “build out” likely continuing through the next five or more years.

New or Redeveloping Businesses

Panera Bread is building a new standalone restaurant with a drive thru at the site of the former Identity Salon, next to Graeter’s to open later this year. OrthoCincy, orthopedics and sports medicine, plans a move to the former Fresh Thyme store on Beechmont this summer. Also scheduled for a summer opening, The Game sports bar on Beechmont Avenue will be transformed into a micro-brewery and restaurant called Wandering Monsters. The locally-owned business will offer duck pin bowling, adding another family-oriented entertainment option to Anderson Township.

Entertainment District Upgrades

Dramatic upgrades for the township’s entertainment district along Kellogg Avenue begin this year. An outgrowth of the township’s Kellogg Gateway Study and Community Art Plan, the first phase of which includes beautification and transformation

of the area around I-275 East’s exit 72. Work begins this summer and includes colorful plantings, new overpass lighting, and safety upgrades. Other future phases will implement improved lighting, signage, and landscaping along Kellogg and other traffic and safety improvements along the corridor.

Public Improvements

A high-profile challenging intersection will be revamped this summer at Eight Mile Road and State Route 32. Eight Mile is scheduled to be closed for several months during construction to facilitate the safety changes. A new traffic signal will be installed at Eight Mile and State Route 32, with the new configuration allowing westbound State Route 32 traffic traveling straight down the hill to flow continuously toward Newtown. The Ohio Department of Transportation indicates the improved configuration will reduce delays at the site, plus add safety. The project’s completion is scheduled for next year.

More than 40 roads in Anderson Township will be repaved this summer, highlighted by Witt Road, Four Mile Road, and Eight Mile Road south of I-275. Smaller links in the Anderson Trails network of trails also will be completed on a portion of Elstun Road and Rambling Hills Drive.
