A message from the Chamber President: Welcome to the 2019 edition of the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce Membership Directory and Business Resource Guide. We are pleased to again partner with Cincinnati Magazine and Anderson Township government to deliver this valuable and informative community publication. We hope you will enjoy it and refer to it throughout the year. The Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce serves the businesses and residents of Anderson Township, Village of Newtown, Mt. Washington and western Clermont County. Economic development continues to be the big buzz in the community and there are many projects in the works for 2019, including the development of a new senior care facility, Anthology of Anderson, to be located just west of Beech Acres Parenting Center on Beechmont Avenue. In addition, on the residential front, Stonegate Apartments will be adding 120 new apartments to the adjoining property they acquired on Nagel Road. Anderson Township’s Comprehensive Plan identified senior living facilities and apartments as a significant need in the area and these will help fill that need. We strive to be a leader in the community and want to connect with the businesses and residents in every way. ental illness is the No. 1 public health problem in the United States, more common than cancer, heart disease, and diabetes combined. And mental illnesses are costing companies, whether they can see it or not. Why should we, the business community, care? Of course, compassion and a desire to alleviate human suffering and save lives are paramount. But beyond the emotional costs, there is the financial impact of unaddressed mental illness.
Well-established research indicates that the cost of untreated mental illness far outstrips the cost of treatment. In the 15 counties including and surrounding Greater Cincinnati, The Health Foundation estimates that the economic cost of mental illness was, conservatively, $1.3 billion in 2012 alone. Of these costs, the indirect costs of absenteeism, presenteeism (an employee is sitting at their desk, but not productive), and disability accounted for 70 percent compared with the cost of treatment (30 percent).

arty on the Plaza is the eastside’s awardwinning summer concert series produced by the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with Anderson Township. The event is designed to showcase local businesses and provide a relaxing night of entertainment for area residents of all ages. This family-friendly event runs from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the outdoor plaza at Anderson Center, 7850 Five Mile Road. The band will play from 6 to 9 p.m. with an intermission. houghtful planning is a hallmark of Anderson Township government. Attention to detail characterizes the community’s approach to its past and its ability to envision its future, enabling smart growth and careful preservation of community assets. Governed by a three-person elected board of trustees, Anderson operates its own public works and fire departments. The township contracts for policing services from the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. The busy commercial corridor of Beechmont Avenue, a hub and shopping destination, continues to undergo major redevelopment and improvement. Anderson government has worked to balance this growing commercial activity with the community’s other outstanding features, including high-quality schools, outstanding parks and Greenspace, excellent public services, and easy access to downtown, the airport and other parts of the region. In recent years, Anderson Township has focused on collaborative efforts, encouraging public-private partnerships to promote its vision for the future. More than $400 million in infrastructure and redevelopment projects will have transformed the business and entertainment core of the community in coming years. Responsible, efficient and conservative governance has paid off in Anderson Township. Property taxes are kept in check while the township maintains high-quality public services— quality that’s backed up by the top rating from Moody’s Investors Service. Anderson remains a solid investment for homeowners and has won many awards for its plans and overall quality of life. In recent years, trustees launched several initiatives to help residents lower basic electricity and trash-recycling service costs, now providing no-cost textile recycling at the curb. In continuing its history of providing quality-of-life services and amenities, Anderson Township recently acquired the Anderson Parks RecPlex at Beech Acres Park and plans to upgrade the facility for community use. Anderson Township leaders engage and involve residents in local decision-making activities. About 110 volunteers serve on nine citizen committees that advise the trustees on key issues ranging from zoning to transportation and economic development. The newest group committee, called WeTHRIVE!, focuses on health, wellness and beautification issues. This year the committee is working on the topic of improving mental health through a collaborative community approach. Anderson’s leadership continues to concentrate on programs and policies that support a high quality of life, enhancing daily living in a community which respects its past while actively charting a better future.

is adding a new dive pool called Cannonball Cove, which will feature two one-meter boards and one three-meter board. The separate dive pool area will be located near the west entrance to Sunlite Water Adventure. Throughout the year, Coney Island hosts private events, public festivals and a holiday light show. Next door, two music venues offer tunes for all tastes. Riverbend Music Center is the summer home of the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and hosts some of the biggest names in music throughout the season. The Anderson Trails program initiated more than 20 years ago has grown into more than 25 miles of sidewalks and trails. A 2.5-mile link, the Five Mile Trail, connects the Turpin High School area with Anderson Towne Center, the Beechmont business district and Five Mile Road. These additions provide walkers and bikers access to Anderson Center, Anderson Towne Center and Beechmont Avenue. Expansion to the east and west in the next few years will ultimately connect trails with New Richmond and Cincinnati’s downtown.

I
f you lived here a decade ago, it’s hard not to notice the new Anderson Township that has emerged. After years of vision, casting and planning, many of the key sites and projects identified by Anderson Township for development have been completed or are currently under redevelopment. Now, says Township Trustee President Josh Gerth, a few key sites are left to “help complete the vision.” “We’ve spent the past 10 years focused on the ‘center’ of the community and updating our infrastructure to support the growth,” says Steve Sievers, Assistant Administrator for Operations. “Now we see the ripples 26 ANDERSON AREA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
of this positive change in the community, leading to more projects and a broader choice of retail, dining, entertainment and shopping options.” Several key sites identified by the township “have been sold and/or are currently going through the redevelopment process,” Gerth says. Those developments include new multi-family, office and senior living projects, as well as a plethora of new retail options. “There are still sites left and other amenities we would like to see come to fruition, including a hotel and alternative housing options [i.e., townhomes, condo and/ or small cluster-style empty nester homes] to
help complete the vision of providing a topnotch community for all ages,” he adds. Paul Kitzmiller, the chair of the volunteerdriven Economic Development Committee, says one word sums up the current state of Anderson Township development: thriving. With new apartments and senior living options in the works and some nearing completion, and the retail corridor at “very high” occupancy levels, “the results speak for themselves,” Kitzmiller says. “All told, this represents more than $300 million in development within our community. Our leadership is strong, and our residents are passionate.”

NEW DEVELOPMENT 2019
Private Redevelopment or Development While the major pieces of the Anderson Township core business district have been put in place in recent years, plenty of new businesses are joining or upgrading in the community. Newcomers include Rancheros Cocina Mexicana in Anderson Towne Center and a new Gold Star in “Downtown Anderson” on Beechmont Avenue. Grammas Pizza also joins the list of Beechmont Avenue restaurants, and recently announced is a Raising Cane’s restaurant, in the building previously occupied by Applebee’s. Opened in recent months are McAlister’s and Goldfish Swim School. This summer, Big Ash Brewing Company plans to open in the Skytop Shopping Center, in front of the former Remke store. Expanded Senior Living Options One goal of the community’s Anderson Plan has been increased housing options for residents. In recent years, longtime senior facilities have expanded or renovated. Additionally, new specialized senior living choices are locating here. Soon to be completed is Anthology of Anderson Township on Beechmont Avenue, a two-story assisted living and memory care community. The 94-bed home is on six acres and includes upscale amenities. Forest Hills Care Center on Moran Road, a rehab and long-term care facility, has almost completed its 24-unit assisted living addition. Enclave at Woodruff, on Woodruff Road, is a small-lot, 34-unit subdivision offering luxury ranch patio homes that include yard maintenance.
Expanded Rental Housing Options Stonegate Apartments is currently expanding with the construction of 120 oneand two-bedroom units in two buildings on property adjacent to its current community. Public Infrastructure/Facility Improvements Later this year improvements will begin to modernize the Anderson Parks RecPlex, a 6.8-acre property to be purchased by Anderson Township, with operations managed by the Anderson Park District. The facility was built in 1969. Using revenues from new development in this area, Anderson Township will upgrade plumbing, utilities, electric, ceilings and more, plus paint the facility and provide new furnishings. Public/Private Partnerships The Anderson Towne Center Kroger expansion is still in the pre-construction phase, along with the Kroger-owned restaurant Kitchen 1883, which would be lo-
cated in the Shoppes of Anderson Towne Center. No construction start date has been released. Road Construction Eastside Cincinnati residents have already navigated interstate construction changes caused by the ongoing I-275 road and bridge preservation project, which started last year. The joint project between the Ohio Department of Transportation and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet continues the 1.6-mile, $30 million resurfacing and road rehabilitation work to the 45-year-old roadway. Five mainline twin bridges, including the Combs-Hehl Bridge, are included. A spring-summer project will include resurfacing to Little Drive Run, from Wolfangel Road to the Newtown corporation line. Other township projects include resurfacing and pavement efforts, plus curb and sidewalk repairs, on nearly 50 township roads. Sidewalk Projects Anderson Township ramps up efforts to finish a five-year project to repair all township sidewalks that were cracked, worn or had buckled cement. This year, the community will see a $500,000 capital improvement investment to complete the five-year program. Unlike many communities, Anderson assumes repair of all sidewalks along township, county and state roadways. The Markley Road sidewalk project should be completed this year. This 1,500-foot connection will link Beechmont Avenue to James Hill Drive, continuing to Woodcroft Drive. WWW.ANDERSONAREACHAMBER.ORG 27
