Celebrating Community and Giving Back in 2025

Welcome to the 2025 Membership Directory & Business Resource Guide, where we reflect on the powerful role that businesses play in shaping a thriving, supportive community. It has never been more important for us to invest in the places we call home and rally around the successes of our neighbors. I would like to thank the team at Cincinnati Magazine for their expertise and leadership in the development of this publication, as well as our local contributors that give so much of their time and talent to showcase the Anderson Area.

Local businesses are more than just storefronts or offices; they are integral parts of the communities they serve. When businesses give back—whether through charitable contributions, local partnerships, or volunteer initiatives—they strengthen the foundation that supports everyone. This collective investment fosters economic growth, creates opportunities, and enhances the well-being of all residents.

At the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce, we believe in the power of giving back. We are here to foster connections and support our local businesses, nonprofits, schools, parks, faith communities, and champion community initiatives that are making a meaningful impact.

If you haven’t already, I encourage you to get involved with our chamber. The chamber not only provides networking and business discount programs, but lends visibility, credibility, and a voice of local influence. Join us for a monthly membership meeting, attend a networking or professional development event, or volunteer for a committee.

This year, I encourage you to look around and celebrate the successes of those in your community. Support local businesses, recognize the efforts of those making a difference, and find ways to contribute—big or small—to the greater good. It is through these shared efforts that we build a stronger, more vibrant future.

Let’s make 2025 a year of connection, generosity, and shared prosperity.

With gratitude,

Think Big for Small Businesses

The Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce wants to remind you to “Shop "Local" because when you support small businesses, you’re investing in your own community.

Locally owned businesses are run by your neighbors, friends, the parents of kids in local schools, and the people you see at your favorite spots around town. They buy from other local businesses, keeping 75% of every dollar circulating right here— compared to just 40% at big retailers. That means stronger schools, better services, and a thriving local economy.

Small businesses are the backbone of our community, and the Chamber is proud to support and celebrate them year-round. Whenever possible, choose to shop local—it makes a difference!

Think about it! A locally owned shop will:

• Use a local accountant for payroll and taxes

• Use a local printer to print letterhead, business cards, banners, etc.

• Purchase business insurance from a local agent

• Use local agencies for marketing and promotion

• Shop at local boutiques

• Support local schools and nonprofits

• Hire local staff

When Mercy Health decided to launch an exciting new culture campaign across all six of its Cincinnati area hospitals last year, Mercy Anderson President Dr. Kathy Healy-Collier flipped open her AACC membership guide to find a locally owned small business option.

Mercy Anderson Wins with Big Frog

“It’s great that Mercy chose to support a local business,” says Big Frog Co-Owner Gavin Bartley. “Keeping the money in the area allows our business to flourish, which in turn means better pricing for all of our local customers and more local jobs.” The ripple effect of a T-shirt order in the thousands had a big impact on this small business. Young, ambitious college roommates Gavin Bartley and Jake Walters bought Big Frog in June 2023, just months before heading into their senior year at the University of Cincinnati. “We both come from entrepreneurial families in Toledo,” Gavin explains. “Owning Big Frog has allowed us to engage with the Anderson community and we’re so thankful for the opportunity to work with so many other businesses in the area.” We urge you to think local for your business’s next project. There’s sure to be an AACC member business that’s ready to meet your needs—with that friendly, local touch!

Township Rallies Around State-Bound Raptors Football Team

The roar of the crowd, the trill of the whistle, the sharp taps of snare drums. These are the unmistakable sounds of a Friday night under the lights. The 2024 Anderson Raptors football season was a remarkable one as the team remained undefeated until the state championship game. The successful season brought together not only the football fans but the whole community. From the cheerleaders and the band to the media coverage, medical support and transportation, the winning season was truly a township-wide effort.

Fueling the Team

Many local businesses went above and beyond in their support of the Raptors playoff run. “Some donated meals, some gave us great discounts, and some supported us in many other ways,” recalls football mom Katie Johansen. Chamber members Better Blends and Parlor Donuts donated breakfast for the team. Long-term Chamber partners Kitchen 1883, Buffalo Wings & Rings, Butterbee’s, Jersey Mike’s, and LaRosa’s also donated meals to fuel the season.

Unwavering Community Support

The Anderson football program has a long and storied history in our community. Thousands of young men have proudly donned that orange and black uniform over the decades. Plenty of alum still live in Anderson and attend games or watch online to show support. Let’s hear from some of those proud AHS supporters:

“As a former AHS player, a parent with a son on the team and someone fortunate enough to play football at the college level, I’ve never witnessed anything like it. The commitment and dedication of these players, coaches and staff rival anything I’ve experienced in the game.”

– PHIL POETTER, ’04 GRADUATE AND FORMER ANDERSON FOOTBALL PLAYER

“I feel incredibly lucky to have shared the state championship experience with my entire family. This season will forever be a treasured memory.”

– MELANIE HARTONG, ANDERSON BAND AND CHEER PARENT AND FOREST HILLS SD EMPLOYEE

“Seeing the whole community come together for a State Run is a testament to all the good things going on – both on and off the field in Anderson.”

– KURT SHOEMAKER, ’04 GRADUATE AND FORMER ANDERSON QUARTERBACK

“We are so fortunate to live in the type of community that comes together like this to lift up and celebrate our student-athletes, cheerleaders, band members and the entire student body. We can certainly be proud of the way everyone involved represented our community on such a big stage –both on and off the field.”

– LARRY HOOK, FHSD SUPERINTENDENT

“This season was a powerful reminder of how much good can happen when we come together and fight for something bigger than ourselves.”

– LAUREN PIENING-ESTAEL, ANDERSON SENIOR FOOTBALL MOM

“This season was capped off by an amazing final week as the entire community came together to celebrate the football team. From the team dinners to the businesses posting ‘good luck’ on their signs, to the Anderson Township Fire and Police Departments leading the caravan to each elementary school so that our future Raptors could slap hands and show support. It was truly all something out of a story book!”

Give Back to Get Back

Anderson businesses enriched through volunteering.

Donating your time or talents to a worthy cause is a great way to get involved in your community and work for positive change. Right here in Anderson, there are businesses of all sizes that give back to make our community even stronger.

Cincinnati HQ Leads Companywide Give Back Commitment at TQL

Across all levels of its organization, logistics company TQL promotes a spirit of giving back. Corporate giving initiatives aim to support causes that are meaningful to individual teams at its 60-plus offices. Each team across the country appoints a charity captain to keep a pulse on what matters most to employees. “The charity captain helps organize

team-wide charity initiatives and supports our TQL Cares philanthropic team for each satellite office,” explains Angela Holman, supervisor for Corporate Giving. Selected by their leaders, charity captains are employees who can act as group leaders, rallying their teams around community involvement.

Throughout the years, these captains have coordinated and guided employee participation in volunteerism, fundraising, and dona-

tion drives, including companywide giving campaigns as well as team-based initiatives. Led by 150 charity captains, TQL’ers volunteered for a combined 7,000-plus hours in 2024. Teams completed more than 260 service projects and supported 3,600-plus nonprofits.

TQL also offers all employees eight paid volunteer hours each year. In addition to giving employees the time and resources to

give back, the company provides additional monetary support to charitable organizations. For example, anytime a team volunteers at a nonprofit, TQL donates $250. For each of the eight annual volunteer hours that an employee uses, the company donates $10 to the organization at which the employee donated their time. The company also offers grants for team fundraisers and matches all fundraisers at 50 percent.

“One of our biggest focuses is employee choice, meaning that the company is going to support causes that matter to them,” Angela says. With a 79 percent participation in employee giving programs across all offices in 2024, this model seems to be resonating with employees who are making a positive impact in their communities across the country.

Bob Wetterer: Local Realtor and Volunteer-Extraordinaire

A native Cincinnatian, longtime east side resident and local realtor with Anderson Comey & Shepherd for more than 30 years, Bob Wetterer has been giving back to kids and families for decades. In 1985, while working for Lazarus in Beechmont Mall, Bob founded The Wish Tree

Program. If you’ve been around town long, you likely recognize the program. They stock Christmas trees with wish list tags at local businesses across Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky.

The program collects up to 50,000 items each year and has partnered with many local organizations over the years. In 2024, the organization celebrated its 40th anniversary and stocked 350 trees with wish lists.

Bob has been an AACC board member since 1994, making him the longest-serving board member. Thanks to his service and impact, he was a past Citizen of the Year and past AACC president. His other areas of community service are truly too numerous to fully list. He has run the Mt. Washington Independence parade, Holiday Walk and has participated in every Anderson parade. He’s also involved with the Mt. Washington Rec Center, the Anderson Senior Cen-

ter, Fountain Square and more. In addition to being the main fundraiser for lighting the Mt. Washington Tower, he is currently fundraising to get new lights. He looks forward to a big celebration for the relighting!

Through his community-mindedness and spirit of generosity over the past several decades, Bob has undoubtedly inspired many individuals and businesses to work for the betterment of our community.

Kroger Helps Ensure More People are Fed While Reducing Food Waste

A staple of the Anderson community for generations, Kroger is a big company that gives back in big ways. Kroger is committed to eliminating hunger and reducing food waste. “In 2017, we launched our ‘Zero Hunger, Zero Waste’ plan to really look at how we could help solve hunger and eliminate waste not only inside the company but within the communities we serve,” explains Jenifer Moore,

Corporate Affairs manager for Kroger’s Cincinnati/Dayton Division. As part of this commitment, Anderson Kroger makes sizable weekly food donations to local partners. In 2023, the store donated more than 31,000 pounds of food, keeping it out of landfills and helping fill bellies of our neighbors around town. Through the companywide Kroger Community Rewards program, Anderson Kroger supports nonprofit organizations. The program sends quarterly checks to the organizations, and it’s a great way for them to secure extra funding to complete their work. Anderson Kroger floral department gives back to our community by making centerpieces for the Anderson Senior Center. When flowers are nearing their end-of-life, the floral department donates them to local senior centers and long-term care facilities to uplift residents’ spirits.

One of the key ways that Anderson Kroger gives back is through its One Red Box partnership with 7 Hills Church. Since 2013, the church has delivered more than 250,000 Thanksgiving meals to local families through this program. In 2024, they delivered 5,065 boxes, feeding more than 40,000

Giving Back Through Volunteering: A Win-Win for You and Your Community

Whether giving back has been a regular part of your life for years or you’re just starting to explore how doing so can enrich your life, there are undoubtedly volunteer opportunities nearby that meet your interests.

Community and History Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering with the Township provides another avenue for giving back. Helping organize long-standing community events like the 4th of July Parade and holiday festivities are great ways to plug into Anderson life. Each April as part of the Great American Cleanup, residents, community groups, and businesses gather to pick up litter along Anderson roadways and beautify our community, before gathering for a picnic lunch back at Anderson Center.

If local history sparks your interest, connect with the Anderson Township Historical Society. Events like Sunday open houses at the Miller-Leuser Log House and the annual native plant sale provide ample and varied volunteer opportunities. Greeting visitors and sharing fascinating local tidbits at the Anderson Township History Room at Anderson Center provides weekly volunteer options for those interested.

Engage with Residents Across Generations

Giving your time to the Anderson Senior Center can help enrich not only your life but those of the seniors who use their valuable services. Volunteering at a local assisted living or long-term care facility is a great way to make a positive difference for others – and gain new perspective on your own life. Have school-age kids or teens? Our local schools are always looking for volunteers willing to give their time to help better the school community and learning experience for kids and staff. School volunteer opportunities include copying worksheets and other tasks in school workrooms, running a booth at school carnivals or holiday events and assisting in musical or theater productions.

Invest in Nature

If you’re interested in enjoying time in nature, consider volunteering with Anderson Parks. Volunteer opportunities with the Parks include running park-sponsored summer camps and art classes, serving as a referee for youth basketball and volleyball leagues, and assisting in beautifying our natural areas through landscaping, woodworking and other skills.

Give Back in 2025 and Beyond

It’s always a great time to get started volunteering for a new cause that’s important to you! So many important organizations rely on the generosity and talents of volunteers to run smoothly and complete their work. How will you give back to Anderson in 2025?

people and reaching more than 191 schools and organizations across Greater Cincinnati. “The life of a single box does more than provide a single meal; it creates a lasting memory,” says 7 Hills Pastor Jake Fraiture. Kroger and its community partners are setting wonderful examples of ways to solve local problems and help families in our own communities.

Transforming Healthcare, One Patient at a Time: Mercy Anderson’s Commitment to Our Community

Mercy Anderson Hospital is not just a healthcare provider but a cornerstone of the Anderson community. Committed to high-quality services, compassionate care and improving population health, Mercy Anderson ensures that everyone in the community has access to the care they need, right in their own backyard. The hospital is currently focused on expanding local access to key services, including women’s health, cardiovascular and mental health.

“At Mercy Anderson, we are more than just healthcare providers; we are partners in the well-being of our community,” explains Dr. Kathy Healy-Collier, president and CEO of Mercy Anderson Hospital. “Our work doesn’t stop at treatment—it’s about building a healthier, stronger Anderson for generations to come.”

The Mercy Care Clinic, which serves the uninsured, is a key component of the hospital’s commitment to giving back to the local community. “At Mercy Anderson, we believe healthcare should be accessible to all who need care,” says Dr. Healy-Collier. “Our team works tirelessly to ensure everyone has access to the care they deserve.” The hospital is proud to provide healthcare services to those in need, ensuring that financial barriers don’t prevent anyone from receiving care.

Mercy Anderson’s impact goes beyond just medical care; it extends to the community at large. From volunteer work at local schools to food pantry efforts, the hospital is committed to making the Anderson area a better place for all its residents.

As Mercy Anderson continues to grow and expand its services, the hospital remains dedicated to serving the community with compassion, excellence and a deep sense of purpose. “We are part of this community, and our commitment to it is unwavering,” says Dr. Healy-Collier. “Whether it’s through patient care, volunteerism, or partnerships with local organizations, we strive every day to give back to those who support us.”

Anderson Township Government

Built on previous generations’ hard work and innovation, Anderson Township remains focused on smart growth and preserving community assets to create a sustainable future.

This highly sought-after community is more than just beautiful homes on rolling hills. The township is characterized by connected neighborhoods intertwined with quality schools and excellent parks, backed with high-quality government services that make living here easy and stress-free. Evolving business districts provide sought-after goods and services, providing residents and visitors with a wide variety of stores and restaurants.

One of Anderson’s innovative programs, the first Greenspace program in Ohio, preserves highly valued natural areas and protects wildlife habitat. In the past 25 years, Anderson has also built an impressive 25 miles of sidewalks and paths, thus encouraging multi-modal transportation options and linking residential areas with businesses, public institutions, services and parks through its Anderson Trails Network.

Anderson Township shines when it comes to community planning. Besides earning accolades for its sidewalk program. The township has successfully targeted adding new housing options for all generations. Public-private partnerships have been bringing further amenities into the community. The goal is a community where all generations will find quality housing and supporting amenities to meet their needs.

Governed by a three-person elected board of trustees, Anderson operates its own public works and fire departments. Public safety services are contracted through the Hamilton

County Sheriff’s Office, including specialty officers like school resource officers and community crime prevention specialists.

Beechmont Avenue, the community’s “Main Street,” provides a bustling hub of services and shopping destinations with increasing options for quality restaurants and entertainment. The corridor continues to transform, with beautification and safety enhancements for all modes of transportation.

Long-term infrastructure investments along the Little Miami Scenic River have paid off, creating a new recreation corridor and greater opportunities to play along the river. The river’s edge in Anderson Township is becoming a destination for sports enthusiasts of all ages and interests, drawing those interested in cycling, hiking, pickleball, water sports and more.

After several years of construction next to Anderson Center, the $150 million lifestyle community called Vantage at Anderson Towne Center opened this year. This development will provide overflow public parking for Anderson Center and METRO, further transforming the township’s center into a viable place to live and play.

Responsible, efficient and conservative governance continues in Anderson Township. The township maintains high-quality public services as government leaders look for ways to stretch public dollars to enhance the community. As housing prices fluctuate nationally, Anderson remains a solid investment for homeowners, with a wide range of price points covered in the township. Senior adults living here also enjoy a popular gathering spot as part of their weekly rhythms, with the township-owned senior center offering classes, parties and social stimuli to those who visit during the week.

Local volunteers are encouraged to participate in decision-making activities in the Anderson Township government. More than 80 residents on various citizen committees advise the trustees on key issues ranging from zoning to transportation and economic development. Anderson’s leadership prioritizes programs and policies that support a high quality of life, enhancing the corporate experience of a community that respects its past while actively charting a better future.

Entertainment & Recreation

Entertainment and recreation opportunities in the Anderson area can help you unwind from day-to-day stresses and make meaningful connections for wherever you’re at in life. Whether you’re looking to connect with other families with kids, break into the community as a young adult or stay plugged in as a retiree empty-nester, local entertainment and recreation options can help you find connection right here in Anderson.

Our highly rated school district is well known throughout the region and state. So, if you came to the area with school-age kids, you’re in good company. Anderson Parks are always a popular place to connect with local families and host play dates. Our Parks offer engaging programming for all ages – including camps, classes theater and live music – at various locations around Anderson throughout the year.

For young adults who live in the area, Anderson boasts an array of entertainment and recreation opportunities so they can stay close to home during evenings and weekends out. Local craft breweries Wandering Monsters Brewing Company, Dead Low Brewing, and Mt. Carmel Brewing Company serve as popular gathering spots. ALL iN GOLF is a fun indoor spot for golfers of all ability levels to practice their swings and challenge their friends. The entertainment district on Kellogg Avenue also offers a myriad of options. Belterra Park features seasonal live thoroughbred and year-round simulcast

racing, plus several dining options and a choice of more than 1,300 games. From spring through fall, gather a group of friends to attend a summer concert at Riverbend Music Center.

As the Baby Boomer generation has aged into retirement, we’re happy to see that many of our long-time residents choose to spend their golden years in the area. Spend an afternoon shopping at the Anderson Town Center or take in a Beechmont Players show. Several Anderson Parks now boast pickleball courts, a popular pursuit among the 55+ set. Golfers can choose from several area public courses, including California Golf Course, Vineyard Golf Course, and Little Miami Golf Center.

If a leisurely walk or bike ride is more your style, hit the Five Mile Trail or even the more ambitious Little Miami Scenic Trail, which winds north from Newtown. Last year, we celebrated 25 Miles in 25 Years with the completion of a landmark 25 miles of Anderson Trails, safe, well-maintained paths on which to walk, run, bike and enjoy nature. If you’re looking for a serene escape to nature, look no further than one of our area parks with wooded trails and scenic vistas of the Ohio or Little Miami rivers.

Here in Anderson, we’re proud to boast plenty of entertainment and recreation options. Even if you’ve lived here for decades, there may be a few you haven’t heard of and may thoroughly enjoy. We encourage you to check out something new in 2025!

StoryPoint Senior Living (formerly the New England Club) is a long-standing senior community in Anderson. Throughout the year, the facility opens its doors—and grounds—for the entire community to enjoy. For example, StoryPoint shares its property as a safe and welcoming place for people of all ages to fish and interact with the residents. From a community perspective, this is a valuable way to take care of multiple generations and bring people together.

The scenic walkway around StoryPoint is open to the public and many people make use of it. “We see local kids and families coming out to stroll around our park area,” says LaBaron Hendrieth, StoryPoint’s general manager. “Our residents love to look out and see people fishing and walking around our property.” The facility also hosts outdoor concerts during the warmer months, which are open

to all Anderson residents.

To meet the spiritual needs of their residents and connect with the wider community, StoryPoint holds affi liations with several local churches to hold services on-site. They also partner with the Forest Hills School District Job Training Program in their efforts to expose teens to future jobs working with seniors.

“Our monthly veterans’ breakfast is open to all veterans in the area, not just our residents,” explains LaBaron. “We also run food drives to support local banks, including the SEM Food Pantry and IPM Food Pantry.” StoryPoint supports youth in the community through an annual community Girl Scouts cookie drive. Through these community connections and more, StoryPoint is making a difference in the lives of not only their residents but in the Anderson community at large.

Sidewalk Update

Construction on the Elstun Connector, an extension of the Little Miami Scenic Trail, is scheduled for completion this year. The link is vital to connecting the Skytop Apartment community area to a hub of regional trails. It is the final phase of the major Beechmont Bridge connector project completed in 2022. Another notable sidewalk link planned for 2025 is an extension of the Wolfangel Road sidewalk near Clough Pike.
